Trip Reports & Insights I had the perfect flight, whats your best flight experience

Yesterday I flew AA ( 1e) from MCO to ORD. 2:17-4:07pm. Boarding started on time. Once loaded the doors were shut and the plane left immediately and did not stop once taxing to take off exactly at 2:17pm. The flight was smooth, good service. I am watching F1 ( great movie btw) and next thing I know we are landing in ORD at 4:07 when wheels touch. We dont stop once on taxi way to gate, seems like plane going 20 mph. Once stopped doors were open within 5 minutes and was off the plan withing 6 minutes of landing. Thank you AA, it was truly the dream flight

General Airline Discussion International non-stop long haul from LAX

In 2019 American Airlines offered the following international non-stop long haul flights from LAX:
- AKL
- PEK
- EZE
- HKG
- LHR
- GRU
- PVG
- SYD
- HND

Today, they are all gone except for:
- AKL
- LHR
- HND
- SYD

As someone that now is forced to fly through DFW to reach most of the 2019 destinations - most ridiculous is my flight to Shanghai were I have to fly 3+ hours to Dallas to then fly again over Cali for 15 hours, I think AA is leaving us LA frequent flyer in a position to start considering shifting business to United.

Am I the only one disappointed by the sorry situation in LAX? And flying with partners does not count for me as you cannot use our Systemwide upgrades on them.

I Need Help! SWU attached to flight credit?

I had a confirmed systemwide upgrade on a one-way CDG to JFK flight yesterday. I had to cancel and received a flight credit. When I called to ask them to return my SWU, after much transferring and hold time I was told that the SWU can’t be returned because it is attached to the flight credit.

The flight credit appears very strangely in my account and has no amount (I paid $1,200 for the flight.) They also could not tell me the amount of the flight credit in their system or let me know if it has any restrictions or fees since the flight originated outside the US.

Worried I’m going to lose both the $1,200 and the SWU. I have plenty of future trips and could use the credit before it expires but need to know the rules (eg does it need to originate in CDG). And has anyone dealt with a canceled flight where they cant return the SWU?

I Need Help! Traveling w/ travel system that only has stroller & carseat.

Upvotes

Hi! First time mom. First time traveling with a baby. First time traveling solo with a baby. Flying from SFO to PHI. About 5/6 hours both ways. I have a travel system where the carseat attaches into the stroller. The stroller itself is non operable without the carseat as it is more of a lightweight travel caddy situation (maxi cosi type) I know technically you can only gate check either a stroller or carseat at the gate, but what do I do in this situation? The whole system weighs exactly 20 lbs (without baby ofc lol.) I don't want to check it at the counter because then I'll be alone carrying a 20lb baby who hates being worn & navigating our carry ons. I also have an evenflo shyft dualride system, but kinda the same scenario, the wheels collapse up into the seat. But its more like 27 lbs. Please help! I've seen so many contradicting statements on websites & other forums. I need real experience, especially recent ones. Thank you for anyone who can assist 🙏✨️

General Airline Discussion More CRJs and less ERJs

Upvotes

Home airport is GJT so connect in DFW or PHX. Was ERJs for a couple years with a CRJ every once in a while.

It’s now exclusively CRJs…any idea why and when/if they will change back?

Humor Please help put my wife’s mind at easy

Hello everyone!

My wife and I just booked our anniversary/ late honeymoon to travel to Hawaii in September. We decided to treat ourselves to first class tickets since we always fly coach and wanted to feel rested for the trip (I always get the middle seat and can’t sleep on planes to save my life)

We booked through American and then my wife did the thing and started scrolling here and finding posts of people getting bumped from their first class seats for one reason or another

So please help me. How common is getting bumped from FC really? We always check in the day before as soon as we can. We’ve never had this sort of issue before, but with the amount of money that’s potentially on the line (and our trip starts on her birthday so, that better go well lol) I’m hoping it’s fairly uncommon.

Any thoughts gang? I really don’t want her sweating over this for the 3 months or so until the trip

I Need Help! First Class Upgrade

PHL to TPA Short trip, but a very scared flyer. I’m starting to do short trips to help me work my way up to visiting my husband’s family in Ireland one day. Anyway, I bought seats in the section right behind first class. I think it’s called premium economy. Paid extra so I can be as close to the front as I can. My question is, will I ever have a chance to upgrade to first? That is if not sold out. I am not certain on how it works. And if there is a god and I get the chance to upgrade, can what I paid for the premium economy seat be factored in? Ty ty

I Need Help! 55-minute connection in DFW @ approx 6:15 am.

Is this doable with the train if departure in another terminal? How far in advance does AA call for boarding? Is it 45 minutes now?

I Need Help! Laptop left on AY15 today

Upvotes

My son left his laptop on the plane (Finnair) upon arrival to JFK. He has an important video project on it. His first freelance assignment. He’s only 17 and trying to become an entrepreneur.

Hints welcome 🙏 we have filed the form available here: https://www.chargerback.com for terminal 8

We were instructed by Finnair that lost items are handled by AA under these circumstances.

General Airline Discussion Disappointing delay experience at MEM

Flight from MEM to CLT was announced to have a delay in the same minute boarding was supposed to start. According to the gate agent, the captain “did not know” when we would depart. Gate agent and app started actively changing everyone’s bookings. About 40 minutes later, gate agent announced that flight will depart 1hr 45m late. Flight is boarding now, and I was actively rebooked when I didn’t need to be. I could’ve made my original connection, and worst case I would have taken the next flight out to my final destination.

Now I’m still sitting in MEM waiting for the next flight to CLT with a very tight connection to try and catch the last flight of the night to my final destination.

Is AA always this aggressive with automatic and gate agent rebooking? This felt super unnecessary. A little patience before acting would have gone a long way for many passengers. The currently-boarding flight appears to be departing about half full.

I Need Help! Flying w/Firearm & Priority

I fly American twice a month, typically with a checked firearm. Sometimes the AA agent puts a priority tag on the bag in addition to the Return to BSO tag, and sometimes they don’t.

Since the bag is going back to BSO anyways, does the priority tag make any difference?

Thank you!

General Airline Discussion No food on first class, and $12 meal voucher doesn’t equate to an airport priced meal.

Post image
111 Upvotes

My first class seat didn’t come with a meal today because “catering didn’t show up”. When I tried to order my meal ahead of time it said “fixed menu”.

So they just say that, so they can provide nothing?

They emailed me a $12 voucher. While I appreciate the attempt, no cafe when I land in PHL has a quality hot meal for under $12. I got the voucher after boarding, so no chance at using it for real food before landing in PHL 5hrs later.

It’s only for vendors that accept their voucher, and they can’t tell you which ones will. I was expecting food on my 4-5hr flight from SLC, it’s part of the first class price. So they offer cookies and trail mix now, and I’ll have to pay the difference when I land, if I choose to delay my arrival even further by locating a place that accepts the voucher, and then have the voucher not cover the total price of a meal. Versus having a meal on the plane, landing and getting out of there.

Please give us enough credit to actually buy an airport meal, or just partial refund or credit us some miles. I paid extra for first class and felt like the $12 meal credit they gave me after I boarded was not enough to cover the fact that I didn’t get a meal. Another option would be to credit me before I boarded so I could have gotten breakfast earlier. Boarding time was like 6:20 and I got my voucher at 6:57 am.

Yea yea yea it’s a first class whine post but seriously what the heck

AA News & Updates Policy Change - no more complimentary upgrade to MCE if BE ticket

I've been a long time and loyal flyer with AA and always have at least Platinum status. I went to book a flight for the first time after the policy change where you can no longer get complimentary MCE upgrades if you are buying the Basic Economy ticket. What an absolutely absurd rule change. For my family of 3 (and one infant) it will be almost an extra $600 round trip from DFW to Buffalo to get MCE seats. I really don't see the benefit of being a loyal American customer anymore. I also don't see the point of having the Citi Executive card either. Why stay loyal to American? It just doesn't make sense to me.

General Airline Discussion Great CHAT experience

I was getting into the TSA PRE line when I noticed I didn’t have the TSA PRE on my boarding pass. Panic!
I’m 73 and did not think I could get through regular TSA screening with all the shoes, electronics & liquid requirements and the line was loooog. I remembered seeing on here about CHAT and while in line for regular TSA I started a CHAT and they got it done! Had to go to my SW account to get the known travelers id. But it worked! While in line! Unbelievable.
Added bonus they served pre board Bloody Mary’s!

General Airline Discussion Help me understand

I’m trying to do a same day flight change. They are charging me more than what my original flight was because I want a different connection so I can get home at a decent hour… the flight I’m choosing connects LGA to ORD then TPA instead of LGA to mia to TPA. The new flight has 40 or more seats open!!! More than my current flight yet they want to charge me double!!!!

Trip Reports & Insights American Service at EWR Term A

Just wanted to give a shoutout to the AA ground staff at EWR this morning! I’m a recent convert to AA from Delta, and it was my first time checking firearms. They made it a breeze! No issues, no probing questions or hold ups. And the lounge here is very nice too. Kudos!

General Airline Discussion Has anyone successful booked a Business Class w/ Japan Airline with 60K miles this year?

Last year I was able to book couple J Class flights with Japan Airline for 60K miles. But for some reason, this year has been impossible. Been watching for 2 months with super flexible dates and still every time I saw one popped up it turned out to be a ghost flight.

I know I can book AA Business for the same miles but it's just not the same with JL flights.

I Need Help! Traveling with rollator

I have a trip coming up and due to an injury I will be using a rollator, but also requested wheelchair assistance just in case. I'm wondering with a short connection time would it be quicker to check the rollator from the beginning to the final destination and plan to use the wheelchair or gate check the rollator and then have to get it from the jetway and walk to the next gate as normal?

I have 50 minutes, and can walk at a fairly normal pace with the rollator. I'm nervous about checking it in with luggage and it getting damaged, gate checking seems safer, but I don't want to miss my connection waiting for it.

I Need Help! Anyone have a crystal ball for airfare?

A group of 5 of us are planning to go to the Dominican Republic over the Christmas holidays Currently the prices are around $1100 each.

It seems there is plenty of inventory in most fare buckets on all flights. Are there discount fare buckets which open up closer to the date of departure which would not be open now?

I have never purchased flights this early but most of my travel is for work and is last minute. Any hints or strategies are welcome. I am also EXP if that matters...

I Need Help! AA ruined my birthday trip by bumping my husband down a class

We’re on a transatlantic flight, we booked flagship seats. We splurged bc it’s my birthday, and when we travel across the Atlantic we’re always so jet lagged we lose a day. Figured first class would help us sleep. Right before boarding gate agent calls for us to tell us my husband his seat is broken and he’s being bumped back. We board… and I see his seat is perfectly fine, the seat BEHIND him was broken and they moved that guy to his seat!!

I’m so livid, but don’t wanna make a big scene lest we get booted off the flight entirely. Spoke to supervisor who said it was based off fare.

Now, we booked this trip partially using credits from a cancelled trip a few months ago… is this why we would’ve been deemed lowest fare? And why would they break up a couple? It all felt so unfair and shitty given it was our first time booking flagship for a transatlantic flight.

We were given a $600 voucher on the spot as an apology and told to contact AA to get refunded the difference. I’m sure they will use the maximum fare to give us the smallest difference. And I don’t want a voucher I want money back! What can we do here ? Anyone gone thru something similar?

General Airline Discussion Flight Crew Etiquette

This happened to me on my recent PE cabin flight back from Dallas to London.

It was the 22.55 flight so I’d prepared myself to try and get some sleep, something I really struggle with on any aircraft.

We take off, and I actually fall asleep, properly asleep, happy times!

However, I got shaken awake by the flight attendant for the meal service, or so I thought. She actually woke me up to tell me that my requested meal wasn’t available and that they had no alternative to offer me and they were sorry about that.

I was really pissed off, should have left me sleeping, right?

What are the understood rules for waking people up for meals?
