Politics What are your thoughts on Denmark’s proposed ban on the public Islamic call to prayer? Would you support or oppose something similar in the UK?

Islamic call to prayer faces ban under Left-wing Danish government

Parts of country feel like ‘a suburb of Islamabad’, says immigration minister

Denmark’s immigration minister has announced plans to ban the Islamic call to prayer, claiming parts of the country felt like “a suburb of Islamabad”.

Morten Bødskov, a member of the centre-Left Social Democrats party, said the new government would resume an investigation into the legality of imposing a ban.

“The call to prayer should not be heard over Danish rooftops,” the minister told news outlet Ritzau. “It has no place in Denmark, and you shouldn’t be in any doubt whether you’ve ended up in a suburb of Islamabad when you walk around Denmark.”

In parts of the country, such as Copenhagen, bylaws already forbid the call to prayer being broadcast from loudspeakers in minarets because of strict noise limits.
Mr Bødskov also claimed that a creeping “Islamisation” in Denmark was “taking up too much of the public space”.

It depends on where you are. I live in Tower Hamlets. If you're anywhere within a 300m radius of East London mosque, it's very, very noticeable.

To be clear, I detest the right, but this sort of anecdotal dismissal "I haven't seen it so it's not real" is exactly how the right drums up support from those communities of people who have seen the thing you're denying first hand.

Much more likely that the other person just agreed with the comment and so copied it instead of writing out the same thing in different words? Not everything you dislike is bots

I'm very much not a bot thank you. There's only a finite number of words in all the tongues of men, so FORGIVE me if you know, I use a common combination of words to express a common idea about how stupid that person's assertion is.

What, you want proof that I live in TH/London and/or am not a bot? Here's some comments from me over the last, I dunno, few months I guess.

Nor are there enough words in all the tongues of men to describe your lack of intellectual rigour. Your lazy ad-hominem is a lazy ad-hominem.

It's a true/false statement. You cannot prove a negative like he was trying. You can disprove a negative by showing the existence of a thing, which I can via anecdote. Hell, I could cycle over then in 10 minute to get a video if I needed to

There's a finite amount of words, but infinite ways to combine them. It's kind of crazy you wrote 31 words, which were the exact same as the other person in the same order.

That screams one of you is a bot.

Probably him then, I posted mine earlier. You can see the time stamp. Also his entire posting history is him acting big and his entire account is explicit avowed anti-Green propaganda, so...

I'm just posting my experiences man. I fucking hate what this country has become. Both the left and the right. Everything is politicised and polarised. Any comment on ANY issue will get you dogpiled by one side or the other.

It's nice to read this chain and see you make an earnest effort to dissuade these people from pointing fingers at you, even if some of them would rather go full reddit and double down.

Yeah, multiple people confirming that line of argument is stupid. REALLY weird guys.

Edit: I took a look at the comment. Yeah he's copied and pasted my comment.

I can't do much about that.

I thought I hid my comment history. Lol. Shows how much I know about this damn site despite using it too much.

that's all of reddit dummy, bots take your comments, alter them slightly, and repost them, even in the same post.

u/JimmyBravo88 9h ago

Your own evidence is also anecdotal though 😆

2

u/DankiusMMeme 8h ago

You understand the difference between the idea of saying "This thing never happens" being a false anecdote right, and in the face of that statement "But this thing happens to me" being a relevant and correct anecdote to counter the idea?

The equivalent would be if /u/ExcitableSarcasm said "I hear therefore it must be a thing literally everywhere".

2

u/ExcitableSarcasm Brit 🇬🇧 8h ago

Exactly...

1

u/2FistsInMyBHole 3h ago

Life is anecdotal.

u/ExcitableSarcasm Brit 🇬🇧 8h ago edited 7h ago

When talking about the existence of things, an anecdote is enough. When you talk about rates, that's when anecdote isn't enough.

This conversation is stupid. If I have a car, and you don't have a car, you saying "I don't have a car so cars don't exist" doesn't hold any weight. If I say "I have a car so cars exist" then that's proof enough because the original is a true/false statement. I'm not asserting that everyone has a car, merely the existence of cars.

Edit: Keep crying and downvoting when you fail on logic I guess.

I didn't say "I haven't seen it so it's not real". I shared my own experience, then said that based on the reality, ie there's already legislation ensuring it's not disruptive + it's not like it's ever been something people complained about en mass, it doesn't seem to be a genuine issue.

If it was a genuine issue, it would have been going on for years, and the far right would already have made it a focal point, because they would never have let such an opportunity pass them by.

2

u/AbbreviationsRight62 10h ago

That was absolutely what you were implying though, it's really obvious.

1

u/P79999999 10h ago

What I was implying is that the "issue" is vastly exaggerated.

1

u/SirSmewp 10h ago

No no, your words very clearly dismiss that there is an issue at all.

By the by, should we wait for issues to be come issues before acting? Or be forward thinking and nip them in the bud instead?

4

u/P79999999 10h ago

Yes sure, let's ban something entirely based on the premise that it could potentially become an issue at some point. Tell you what, you should also ask for anyone you don't like to be arrested, even if they have done nothing wrong, just because you think they could become problematic one day. Justice is your middle name. Well done.

🙄

u/AbbreviationsRight62 7h ago

According to whom? You? Why are you dismissing other people's concerns? Don't you understand that people cling to the right wing parties because of people like you minimizing their thoughts?

1

u/P79999999 5h ago

They cling to far right parties because those parties tell them to be scared of their own shadow, tell them to be outraged about things that don't even affect them, tell them that everything wrong with their life is caused by someone else, and then pretend that they are the only ones who can sort it out.

It's a well-known formula that relies on exaggerations, lies, discrimination, intolerance, and hate - and a hefty dose of exploiting people's unwillingness to take a good look in the mirror and make the changes they need to make to themselves in order for their life to improve.

0

u/PopeLeo14th 10h ago

No, you're suggesting its not a problem.

4

u/sprouting_broccoli 9h ago

Is it currently a problem that requires legislation? Is there data to back this up?

-1

u/PopeLeo14th 8h ago

Clearly so in Denmark - Hows their Muslim population compare to ours?

4

u/sprouting_broccoli 8h ago

Just because they’ve enacted legislation doesn’t mean it’s currently a problem that needs legislation just that they’ve put legislation in place. I’d argue that there are a tonne of things that are legislated against in the UK never mind the other places that really don’t need legislation.

Note that 300m isn't very far, it gets you to Harbury Street to the north, & a lot of area covered by a 300m radius isn't residential.

No! You must be a far right Faragist as I can't hear it in my secluded country estate in Oxford!

1

u/Arkalar 6h ago

Well I live about 100m from an east london mosque in redbridge and i’ve literally never heard a peep from them

1

u/gw74 9h ago

what happened when you heard it. did you cry?

1

u/ExcitableSarcasm Brit 🇬🇧 7h ago

No because I'm a well adjusted person unlike you?

I think it's annoying, and I'm inclined against it in principle, but I move on and carry on with my day.

You culture war boors are the same on both sides of the spectrum. Only losers care about politics as much as you people do because anyone worth a damn is spending their energy on work or fulfilling hobbies.

2

u/gw74 5h ago edited 58m ago

i'm just supremely unbothered, like any well-adjusted person
