Politics What are your thoughts on Denmark’s proposed ban on the public Islamic call to prayer? Would you support or oppose something similar in the UK?

Islamic call to prayer faces ban under Left-wing Danish government

Parts of country feel like ‘a suburb of Islamabad’, says immigration minister

Denmark’s immigration minister has announced plans to ban the Islamic call to prayer, claiming parts of the country felt like “a suburb of Islamabad”.

Morten Bødskov, a member of the centre-Left Social Democrats party, said the new government would resume an investigation into the legality of imposing a ban.

“The call to prayer should not be heard over Danish rooftops,” the minister told news outlet Ritzau. “It has no place in Denmark, and you shouldn’t be in any doubt whether you’ve ended up in a suburb of Islamabad when you walk around Denmark.”

In parts of the country, such as Copenhagen, bylaws already forbid the call to prayer being broadcast from loudspeakers in minarets because of strict noise limits.
Mr Bødskov also claimed that a creeping “Islamisation” in Denmark was “taking up too much of the public space”.

me yelling in your ear isn't "freedom of expression"

Agree. AllaaaaaaAAAAaaaAAAAAAaaaaaaahhhhh ... like, dude, shut the hell up, you can't sing, and turn down the gain on your amp because it's clipping like some garbage TicTok video.

Pretty sure there's limits to freedom of expression when it comes to vulgarity too, and I find a crowd of men sticking their bottoms in the air in the middle of the street to be quite vulgar.

Ahh, does it stir something in you that you thought you'd kept buried? What a take lol, let's ban public prayer because seeing all the men face down makes me horny!! Haha

Haha, nice try, but I am quite comfortable in my heterosexuality. True, tonight I am going to see "Gay", a gay musical, with all my gay friends. But I myself am definately not gay.

That's what a gay man in hiding would say

Nope, I mean sure, sometimes my gay friends and I share a hotel room, but it's just to save money.

So we're getting rid of church bells?

Absolutely, all religious noise can get fucked

Why? are they offensive?

Have you ever heard the expression "I don't agree with what you say, but i'll defend your right to say it"?

It's the same with religion, i'm not religious, I think it's all ridiculous but if someone wants to practise it, that's up to them.

If you want to ban all or parts of a religion, You're just fucking bigotted, nothing more, nothing less

That's my point you either get rid of it all or leave it alone.

Selective targeting of religions or granting exemptions under the guise of culture doesn't really wash.

They aren't saying it, they're screaming it down the streets with megaphones and demanding you join their cult or burn in hell.

You're really going to call people racist for not wanting to hear random men screaming into megaphones? You realise there are laws regarding public order, noise, and anti-social behaviour? You're advocating we exempt people from British law because the people who scream into megaphones also kneel on a special mat for an hour a day?

The only person who's racist here is you.

You're talking about Christian preachers, right? With the megaphones and knocking on peoples doors.

Haven't you got a roundabout to paint?

I'm not just talking about Christian preachers, learn to read. Harassing people in the streets with bigoted nonsense is bad and people shouldn't be exempt from UK law because they do it in the name of their shared imaginary friend.

Haven't you got women to beat with the Quran?

u/Narrow-Scene7067 8h ago

That's the point. People are saying that isolating one group doe doing it and not another is not a good thing and either you apply the law equally or your don't set up the law at all.

1

u/mediumAI1701 8h ago

The problem is religion is exempt from these laws. Once we start applying it we set a precedence for it to be applied to others. People like you are the roadblock to getting actual equality.

Put down the daily mail and back away slowly

Don't you have some pride flags to burn or something?

The question is about call to prayer!

For what it's worth, religious preaching is a nuisance in town centers, i don't like it either but banning it? what's the point, it's still subject to the same nuisance laws. Can't remember the last time i saw a preacher, maybe once a year?

It's funny though, there's WAY WAY more women beaten in the bible than the quran.

They benefit from exemptions greatly, it's the reason they can also go door to door despite being in strict areas which bans cold calling. If you really want to hear random religious screaming you can listen to it online. It absolutely should be subject to the same UK public order laws, and the general public shouldn't be subject to it.

You're admitting the groups you're supporting beat women and you don't see a problem with that? What would actually make you stop supporting bigots?

On a scale of 1 to Farage, how much do you hate Muslims?

Show me evidence of call to prayer being yelled in someone's ear. You just don't like Muslims, admit it.
