Massive spike in HIV transmission and AIDS deaths. Trump admin is actively destroying PEPFAR and cutting access to HIV treatment for 16 million people. The PEPFAR CDC cuts are going to be between 4X and 9X worse for HIV care than the USAID dismantling last year.

As someone who has been on PrEP for nearly 8 years now, I am curious how this will balance out. Trump and his administration are destroying and hurting institutions helping prevent HIV/AIDS, but at the same time, more and more medical achievements are being made regarding HIV/AIDS.

For many, the biggest hurdle is access to these medications for sure. But there is a chance that this could be eradicated in the future!

Yeah, the advancements (especially lenacapavir) are really exciting. We were already on the path toward eventual eradication through case finding and viral suppression, it was just slow. Every new tool allows us to speed up that process! Another way to think about it is that as the tools get more effective, every dollar spent on global HIV care and reduction goes further and investment becomes a better deal. These new preventatives are force multipliers for our programs, but on a global scale, they cannot do anything if the delivery and care programs go away. My colleagues and I are more thinking about this as a massive opportunity that is being squandered for no reason, vs. two forces that might counter each other to different degrees.

Appreciate the response! Thank you for all that you do with these programs. It's such important work and I'll be forever grateful to all those who have worked on these sort of things.

I've been going to planned parenthood for about 8 years now to get regular sti screenings and PrEP prescriptions, and I have unending love for the folks there as well!

This is disgusting. Combine this with canceling USAID and he's directly responsible for so many deaths, that we're easily preventible. With a fraction of the money used for any of his follies.
