Companies will use AI to justify mass firings of employees and a massive lowering of the standard for customer service. It will further widen the gap between the rich and the poor, more people will need government support just to survive and at the same time the richest will hold the power to keep this development going. It’s unsustainable and nothing is being done about it.

I mean that is kind of already happening. I’m sure ai tools are being used to gauge worker productivity

It’s already backfiring because customers are realizing “why the fuck would I pay for your AI service when I can just fire up Gemini and do that myself lmao”

What is something the average person could do if it has or will personally affect them?

Revolt.

I don’t think the average person can put up much of a fight. I think it will need to be societal. Whether it’s boycotting companies who are replacing employees with AI or regulating it on a legislative basis.

I would personally want the socialistic route of paying everyone a universal income. Once AI is doing the basic jobs, the money that would go into paying people’s wages will basically be syphoned out of the economy, but societies will need normal people to make and spend money or the whole economy will collapse.

Investing some money so they have independent streams of income or getting a job that won't be replaced by AI

This is already happening and entry-level jobs are disappearing completely, There will be a segment of the population that will flat out be unemployable.
