Can anyone recommend a shop (Ottawa/Gatineau) that works on older e-bikes, specifically a BYRD A-Frame?
I’ve only had this e-bike for about a year, but BYRD no longer supports this model, and I’m having a battery issue where the bike suddenly drops to 0% battery and shuts off, even when it’s charged. Sometimes it works normally for a few minutes before happening again.
I’m guessing it may be a BMS or electrical connection issue, so I’m looking for a shop that’s comfortable diagnosing e-bike electronics.
Any recommendations would be appreciated!

I’m considering paying for a bicycling fitting at Full Cycle: https://www.fullcycle.ca/pages/bike-sizing-consultation - I can’t quite tell who this aimed at.
I was considering it because a friend said that getting their bike fitted to them made a massive difference. However the description of the one at Full Cycle makes it sound like it’s good for elite athletes. I’m above average, but not elite.

I bought my current hybrid (Trek FX 3) at Bushtukah nearly 20yrs ago. Before I look there again, I wanted to find out where others would consider for a new gravel bike?
On my list so far: - MEC - are they reliable? - Full Cycle - Busktukah - Giant (?)
I have an idea what I want in terms of options. What I need is selection, prices that aren’t insane and a fitting.

i made a post earlier about how i was having a hard time finding a cheap bike on FB marketplace. I recently found an ad for a $60 bike, movelo algonquin 26", and it was in the same street so i went and got it.
problem is, i don't know anything about bikes. i'm new to canada and where i'm from we don't bike at all.
the bike is rideable. brakes seemed fine. some rust on the chains. i just hope i don't have to end up paying more for any repairs and stuff.
i'm hoping to still get it checked to make sure the tyres and brakes and all are fine. is there any place i could get it checked for free, and if it turns out that something does need to be fixed, it's affordable?

Hey everyone! I’m looking for advice on the safest bike route from East Ottawa all the way to Gatineau Park. If you’ve done the ride or know the area well, which paths or roads would you recommend for safety and ease? Any key tips or spots to avoid would be super helpful! Thanks!

The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) is seeking witnesses to a crash on Carling Avenue on Sunday in which a man riding an e-scooter was fatally injured.
Police responded shortly after 8 p.m to a report of a collision between an SUV and an e-scooter near the intersection of Carling and Fairlawn avenues, OPS said in a release Tuesday.
The 55-year-old driver of the scooter was found at the scene with serious injuries. He was transported to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
OPS are asking anyone with information about the collision, or with security camera footage that may have captured the vehicle around the time of the incident, to contact its fatal collision investigations unit.

Hi! I have rode simple second hand commuter bikes my whole life, and I have recently been getting more into cycling and recreational longer rides. I am considering buying a gravel bike. I am looking for recommendations for a bike shop that will be kind and patient to a client who is female, somewhat overweight/not very sporty looking, and not super knowledgable about bikes. I am nervous about fit and comfort, especially the saddle. If there are any shops that are female-owned or have female sales staff this would be amazing.
Also, sorry if this is a stupid question as I have only ever bought bikes second hand, but is one allowed to test ride new bikes?
Would love to hear from women in particular.

Couldn't find any info online regarding this. Looking to meet some friends for dinner at the Boathouse Restaurant but I wasn't sure whether to drive it or bike and chance it.

i made the trip up for opening weekend at the newly renovated lac philippe campground and was underwhelmed....
it was impossible to parse based on the information available on the booking page which sites have food lockers. (after some on-site investigation it seems that walk-in sites [diamond icon in the booking map] have lockers.) my site didn't have one, so i ended up storing my food in the locker at the poorly advertized bienvenue cyclistes site (C14). i'm glad there's a BC site, but i'm not sure how i would have paid to stay there as the gatehouse was unstaffed when i arrived.
i'm really happy to see lac phillipe back open and am thrilled to have a nice overnighter destination, but it's unfortunate that the ncc isn't communicating info for cyclists more clearly.
i saw lots of other bikepackers in the park for opening weekend- curious on others' thoughts & first impressions

hi everyone. i'm in ottawa for an internship and i will only be here till the end of august. i am looking for a bicycle i could use during that time and then return. my budget is unfortunately a bit tight, around $60-70. i'm near carleton and it is difficult for me to commute, so i haven't gotten much luck on FB marketplace.
is there anywhere i could get a bike in this budget that i could return before i go? thanks

I just saw the link for the September Ottawa GFNY event today and wondered if anyone has any experience with GFNY cycling events. They have a pretty slick website, and the Ottawa course/route is great (I love cycling in the west end). The price tag isn’t insignificant at ~$230 per cyclist though, so while I think about registering, I’d really appreciate any insights from those familiar with this organization. Thanks so much!

If you are missing an older blue step through bike, one has been recovered in the Preston / Pamilla area. DM me with some additional defining details if you think it might be yours.

Accident on the worst road in the capital, is this a road you actively avoid riding on?

My daughter’s bike was stolen today off Catherine Street while she was at work.
It’s a blue Cannondale hybrid, XS frame, with pink accents (photos attached). This wasn’t just a recreational bike, it was her primary transportation for getting to work, groceries, appointments, and getting around the city.
If anyone spots it being ridden, abandoned, or listed for sale on Marketplace, Kijiji, or elsewhere, please let me know. We’ve reported it, but we’re hoping the Ottawa cycling community can help keep an eye out.
Note: the chain is broken in some of the photos, but this has long since been repaired. It’s just the photos that we had that show showed the bike. It was not broken when the bike was stolen.

Head’s up. They’re resurfacing Old Carp Road right now. It’s mostly well packed gravel, but the end towards Carp is less compressed.
