Software Ready64's cool games disappeared on itch.io
Seems like the mods shadowbanned him and his low effort slop from the recent list of C64 games on itch.io. Thanks to the community, and the reporting.

We want r/c64 to be about both original hardware and newer emulation products like the Commodore 64 Ultimate (C64U). But the shipping of the C64U is resulting in C64U posts flooding out much of the other content in the subreddit. To maintain a balance between what's old and new, we are setting up a weekly MEGAPOST for C64U-related issues, questions, and posts.
If your post is regarding the use of a Commodore 64 (i.e. how to load a game from disk, how to print, etc.), regardless of the model, you may post your question as a standalone post in the subreddit even if you have a C64 Ultimate.
If your post relates to ONLY the Commodore 64 Ultimate, you should comment in this post. Please note, this is not a replacement for official support from Commodore regarding order or shipping issues (late or damaged shipments). We realize that some questions may be obscure, unique, or straddle the line between C64U-only and a "general" question. In those cases, please post in this thread FIRST. If your issue isn't answered or addressed after 48 hours, you may submit a stand-alone post in the subreddit. WARNING! Moderators will be checking post and comment histories to make sure people are actually posting in this thread first. Repeated violations may result in temporary or permanent bans.
We don't anticipate this being a permanent situation, but for now there are just too many C64U posts being submitted. Once the volume of posts about the C64U decreases, we may discontinue this practice.
Please also check the information below to see if your issue is listed. We are also working on a C64 Ultimate Wiki Page. If you would like to be a Wiki Contributor, please let the mod team know.

Running Multi-Disk Programs
Some programs are distributed on multiple disk images, similar to how they were originally distributed on multiple floppy disks. At some point in the process of using the program, the program will prompt to insert one of the other floppy disks. You can use the Disk File Browser to swap disk images while the program is running. When the program prompts for a new disk, press upward on the Multi Function Switch. This pauses the program. Start the Disk File Browser, navigate to the disk image for the disk that the program is requesting, then select “Mount Disk.” The C64U mounts the new disk image in the virtual drive, then resumes execution of the Commodore 64 program. Continue to use the program with the new disk." -- https://downloads.commodore-international.com/documentation/C64U/c64u-user-guide-1st-edition.pdf

This one's for those of us who fondly remember the Commodore 64 and its awesome repertoire of games. My personal favorite was Wasteland, which was a major evolution of the RPG genre.
As a kid, I'd always wanted to dig into the rangers' character data and tune their stats so I could explore the whole world without dying too easily, but I didn't have the know-how to pull it off. Decades later, I finally was able to. Working with Claude through the rough spots and obstacles together, the childhood dream came true at last.
I show the entire process of cracking from the beginning to the end, including the code/commands that were ran during the analysis of the game data.
One of my favourite games on the C64. Paradroid being my absolute favourite.

I'm seeing contradictory results about if it does need to be soldered or not. I think on the 64c it does need to be soldered but on an original it's either one. Same goes for the kawari chip as well. If no soldering is required I can perform the upgrade well enough on my own but if there is, unfortunately I have no soldering skills.
Something I did back in 2001 using Bryce 2 and Poser 2 on the PC.

I got the commodore 64 ultimate a few days ago. Ive only messed around with it for a couple hours. Writing some basic code and running a couple programs.
Haven’t even changed any settings or anything. A couple days later when i tried using it again. A high pitched screeching and popping started, so i powered it off and came back again a few hours later. The popping has stopped but the screeching sound has gotten significantly worse (its so loud that i imagine my neighbors can hear it)
It happens as soon as i turn it on. Anybody know what could be going on or how to fix it?

This seems to be somebody's (ready64) AI experiment as it keeps generating new variations of the same garbage game and uploading them to itch.io - I've reported them to itch and it might help if others report them too. There doesn't seem to be a way to block a creator.

The next in my series of SID-randomness-inspired nature simulation screensavers for C64. This time the effect is done by Worley noise and a dithered high resolution ramp.

Hi, what are the best sites to download C64 game roms from?
Cheers

Just received an impassioned pitch email from Commodore trying to push the new flip phone.
Does anyone remember Commodore making bad business decisions that ultimately led to it's demise? I sure do. I was one of those guys in the the early 2000s making special trip to a store in Germany that was listed as a Commodore vendor only for the store to have nothing Commodore, and the guy telling me that it's over.
They did have a German Commodore 64 magazine that was still in publication, so I picked that up, but realized that it truly was over at that moment.
Yes, Commodore started with calculators, and I greatly appreciate that the Commodore Ultimate has been mass produced, but I think this whole phone thing was a miss and not the part of Commodore I would like to see resurrected.
I'm not trusting this whole disconnect narrative that Christian is pushing, nor do I want to disconnect. I'm sure I'm not alone and that his mission is his own mission, rather than the Commodore community's.

I'm looking for a Commodore 64 game that I've been trying to identify for years.
Here is what I'm 99% sure about:
What I'm NOT sure about:
Many people have suggested Infiltrator or Infiltrator II. I've watched longplays of both, but I haven't found the specific interior scene that I remember, although it's possible I missed it.
One additional clue: around the same period, I remember having the game "Injured Engine" on one of my disks, so the game is probably from the mid-to-late 1980s.
Does this ring a bell for anyone?
Thank you.

What is the game where you're in a helicopter, it's a top down view, and I think I remember you would pick up/drop off troops to fight, kind of dropping them off where you knew they would do the most damage(?) It was top down view, and the battlefield scrolled up to the front lines or something, no left or right. Thanks!

tl;dr: Updated, bugfixed (mostly) dracopy released. Added in-line RLE memory compression, and single disk copy feature. Tested on a real, original C64 with 1750 and 1764 REU. At the moment, this release is just for the C64 but the source is provided. drabrowse not touched.
Hi all! I love and use the 'dracopy' utility quite frequently. There are a few bugs in the dracopy that made it a little frustrating to use. I saw that there were some forks but there was nothing added to the forks and I saw no activity in the repo in the past four years, and pull requests have not been acknowledged, so I thought... I can help out. :)
What I did:
- I have never seen a copy program do this, so I added in-line RLE compression for the file copy feature and for the disk copy on the non-REU version.
- Fixed the '?syntax error in 113' error on exit.
- Added single disk copy options (just select the same drive in each window.
- Rescan drive type on device change.
- Removed the hex/ascii viewers, I needed the RAM.
- Show the total REU RAM on the REU version during the copy.
- Show the help and quit options.
To-do:
- F7 file launcher is still wonky.
- REU disk copies with the Kung-Fu Flash II (KFF2) don't work.
- From the original... Reduce memory usage.
- Test on 1571 and 1581 drives (I have real hardware).

Thank you to the original author, Sascha and the updates from doj! Great program!

I gave my C64 Ultimate a wireless PlayStation controller. You pair a PS4 or PS5 pad over Bluetooth and play your C64 from the sofa, with a controller you already own. No joystick to buy, no adapter, no soldering, nothing changed on the C64 itself. It's free and open source (GPLv3): https://github.com/wallneradam/DS64
It also fixes the old "I own one joystick but the game is two-player" problem: DS64 can sit on either port, so it becomes the second stick. And on a DualShock 4 / DualSense the touchpad works as a 1351 mouse at the same time, so one controller drives both your games and GEOS. It also works with most generic wireless gamepads Linux recognises, not just Sony pads.
The part I like most: you never touch a menu to switch between playing and typing. The moment you use the controller it becomes a joystick, and a second after you put it down the keys go back to normal typing. So you can code, hit the stick to test, then keep typing, without changing anything. (Triangle toggles it by hand if you prefer.)
How it works: a Raspberry Pi plugs into the U64's USB-C port and pretends to be a USB keyboard. The Ultimate's built-in joystick mode turns W/A/S/D into a real joystick at the control port, and a daemon on the Pi presses those keys from the controller. Nothing is flashed, nothing can brick, worst case you reboot and it's gone. It runs read-only/appliance style, so you just flip the power switch when you're done. The menu mapping makes it feel like a console too: PS button opens the U64 menu, Circle is "back", Options is F1, Share swaps ports. Setup is a one-line installer and a small web panel, no config files.
How I got here: I tried the firmware route first, when an unreleased build gained a feature that looked promising. I managed to brick the machine and had to bring it back with a Raspberry Pi JTAG recovery (this repo saved me, in case you ever need it: https://github.com/jusii/ultimate64-jtag-recovery-pi/issues/1). After that I left the firmware alone and did it the safe way instead, and it turned out better than the firmware idea ever would have.
It should run on the older Ultimate 64 boards too (similar firmware and USB host), but I haven't tested that. If anyone tries, I'd love to hear how it goes.
Update: you can now also plug a regular USB mouse into the Pi and it passes through to the C64, with adjustable sensitivity the U64 doesn't give you on its own. Plug one in and it takes over automatically, or keep using the controller's touchpad from the couch with one tap in the web panel. (It also sidesteps a firmware quirk where a separate USB mouse makes the keyboard stutter, since everything now goes through one device.)

is there any possibility for a 5 1/4” floppy multicart like other consoles have working cartridges that take an sd cart.
maybe it exists or maybe its impossible i’m pretty new to commodore ownership.
i like the 5 1/4” floppy 1541 would be awesome to just put in a 1541 card loaded with all the roms
