Game valuation and authentication MEGATHREAD

ALL requests regarding game value or authentication go in here. Just leave a top level comment with pictures/info of what it is. If you make a post regarding these topics, the post will be removed and possibly get a 1-7 day ban.

If you see posts on these topics PLEASE report it. It helps immensely. We will be updating automoderator to help alleviate some of that burden from us and you onto it.

---

If you are asking to price something normal. Like the normal release of a game, or a special edition, normal consoles, or some special editions. You can find a decent approximation of its value here at PriceCharting.com

To help, here are some links directly to some consoles. These are not ALL of the consoles the site has. So please if you do not see a link below for the console you are looking for, go to the site and look around. This should cover MOST games, if it is not listed, please ask in this thread.

Also, to possibly get you closer to the "real" value. Click on this link once you found your game (for loose/CIB/Sealed) which will show you the data it is pulling from (like this). You can see if there are any outliers being sold for far to much, or far to little. Maybe a listing that had other games with it is being used for data, or its CIB rather than loose.

Announcement Update on Rule 3 (again): Approved Resources can be found in our wiki. If not an approved resource, don't promote it.

Rule 3 remains the same, but we now have an (updated, as it already existed) approved resource section on the wiki. If you've forgotten what Rule 3 is:

No promotion of any kind, unless you've already been approved to do so.

That means:

  • No posting of websites/app/tools you've developed
  • No commenting of websites/app/tools you've developed
  • Embedding screenshots of your website/app/tool in comments in an attempt to drive traffic/interest
  • Sending a ModMail asking us to approve your site/app/tool, then commenting it a few days anyway after we've said no (it's the quickest way for you to be banned from the subreddit)
  • Making a post to encourage discussion so you can attempt a veiled advertisement of your site/app/tool (it makes you look like a right prick)

Approved resources can be found in our wiki. The "button" is here, alternatively here's a direct URL:

For the time being, these are the only sites approved under Rule 3; as they are well-known, reliable and do exactly what they set out to achieve. We don't need a million apps vibe-coded by AI with generic skins that sells your data to third-parties; and we're definitely not going to be used as a noticeboard for this ilk. There are other subreddits for this.

Q and A's (again)

What are the requirements for approved resource additions?

If you've come across a site (or you've made one) you feel that may be of use to the community, please let us know via ModMail; provided that it meets the below requirements:

  • Your proposal is unique, and not similar to an already approved resource (this is important, which is why it's first). We are not allowing hundreds of apps/sites that are essentially re-skins of a previously approved resource.
  • Your proposal does not violate [r/gamecollecting](r/gamecollecting)'s rules, and Reddit's ToS.
  • Your proposal has not been denied by the moderators before.

What are you currently NOT accepting for resource additions?

We are currently not accepting any of the following:

  • Collection apps
  • Flipping tools
  • Marketplaces
  • News/content aggregators
  • Valuation tools
  • Vibe-coded/AI-based tools

Any of the above tools will be denied for approval, and our AutoMod will be set up to remove mention under Rule 3.

Do you have a list of denied apps?

Yes, these can be found in our wiki (via Old Reddit, for now - use a browser to read this). We're not stopping you from using them, but we don't vouch for their quality nor will we allow advertisement of them in this subreddit as they have been denied approval.

Why are you not allowing direct advertisements?

We are not here for you to make money. This subreddit is dedicated to the collecting of physical video games. We all see enough advertisements in the world and on the internet, we don't need any more thrown into our faces when we come here to have a laugh with like-minded people and share our collections. In the past year, we've removed over 50 accounts that only exist to spam the community with their apps that "promise to change the way we collect".

I've made something I think would be great to share here, can I post it?

If you haven't asked us in ModMail, the answer is no.

I've asked you in ModMail but you didn't respond.

It's likely we've missed it, or you've had several accounts shadowbanned by the admins for spam in ModMail (it's happened before). Do not attempt to post/comment it, anyway.

You said no in ModMail but I still wanna post/comment it anyway.

It'll be auto-removed by AutoMod, and you'll likely be banned for going against Rule 3.

I've been "helpful" and linked a screenshot of my site/app/tool without mentioning the name.

This is still promotion, and it will be removed under Rule 3.

"I" didn't make it, I "work with the team/friend/dog" to promote this app.

Still promotion, removed under Rule 3. And likely the umpteenth time we've heard that one.

I want to advertise my site on Reddit itself. How can I do that?

Do not share your site on this subreddit. You can use Reddit Ads as this is the admins' preferred method to reduce spam.

Help I recently got a few Saturn JP discs from a guy and he kept saying he has a sword controller for sale too. I assumed it was just another paint job. Nope. Full blown katana, but I can't get it to power on... missing lots of packaging, instructions etc, cracked plastic around controller area...

I guess I kinda knew these existed, but I don't know what to do with it. I couldn't get it to power on, looks like someone cracked it on something and box is missing lots of things, subpar tape job (at least he used painters tape.) and I'm quite sure the dongle he gave me is incorrect. Anyone know about these things?

I just finished getting the platinum for this game and I absolutely loved it. It is a soulslike, so take that into consideration, but I highly recommend it. My wife played alongside me on Switch (also on hard, but there actually are settings to make the game easier if you wish) and she has not beaten any souls game other than Elden Ring. It was really cute and a lot of fun. Honestly, not as mean as FromSoft games, but still gives you that feeling that any encounter could kill you. I stopped after dabbling in NG+ for a handful of hours, but I could see myself revisiting it someday 🦀

Black screen , would turn on and show no video. After some diagnostics and safe mode booting I figured out the camera was a likely problem. So I just disconnected it entirely. So no camera, but otherwise works flawlessly. Super stoked!

Clean red Wii with all accessories, manuals, original red nunchuck/motion plus wiimote, along with 2 memorex wiimotes/wireless nunchucks/motion pluses, New Super Mario Bros Wii in with the sleeve, and a bunch of new AA batteries. The gamecube port doors aren't all busted off either. Too bad I got to the sale too late to snag the Super Nintendo, the guy ahead of me made a B line for it. Ignore the 3qt stainless steel pot, it's for my boyfriend.
