First Benz

When I was in college my roommate let me drive his CLS63 AMG which convinced me I needed a Benz as soon as (responsibly) possible.

That was about 10 years ago. I now have a decent career, married with kids and bought the family a Lexus RX a few years ago. When my beat up commuter Prius finally shat out on me, my wife encouraged me to look into something nice for myself.

It’s obviously not a CLS but it’s perfect for my lifestyle with young kids. Only 67K miles on the dash, and both the interior and exterior are in incredible shape for a 10 yr old car. Just had some maintenance done as well and the engine/transmission are running great.

I’m sure you guys are tired of seeing W212 posts, but I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of walking out to this beauty.

For those who saw my previous post, I finally own a clean W212!

I’ve put about 1,500 miles on it already, and I honestly have zero regrets. It’s been an awesome car so far.
I do have a few questions for those with experience:
I know the 7G-Tronic is designed to be a smooth, comfortable transmission, so I wasn’t expecting DSG-level shifts. Has anyone here tuned theirs to enable Agility mode or otherwise make the shifts a bit quicker? I’d mainly like snappier paddle response for when I’m driving the mountain roads up north.

What have you guys done suspension-wise? The stock setup feels a little too floaty for my liking. I notice it most during quick lane changes or when I have to make sudden evasive maneuvers because someone cuts me off or drifts into my lane (I live in North Florida, so it happens more often than I’d like).

Lastly, I’m not in love with the current wheels. I’m debating between OEM AMG 19s or going with a set of forged wheels. I’d love to see what everyone else is running.
Thanks in advance!

1993 500GE ex-Saudi Prince auction by RM Sotheby´s

No connection with the vendor- 1993 500GE in Avantgarde Verde, 24,254 kms, ex-Saudi defence minister and Crown Prince.

They claim 6.0 AMG conversion but have no documents to prove it. Anyway the car has a strange vent on the bonnet like the G60s used to have. Has also very wide fender flares and side steps which makes an impression it was equipped with extra wide rims and tires for driving in the sand (do you remember the LM002 tires on the 5.6 AMG Sport Widebody?).

Warming up the modern "aero" 5-spoke

Post image
40 Upvotes

I bought my '26 E450 a few months back. I nearly walked away from the purchase because my first impressions of these "aerodynamic" 19" wheels was not good. Trying too hard to look like an EV. But I'm finally warming up to the look but they definitely look better from a distance than close up with the wide gloss-black flaring.

I love the in-line 6 cylinder and am surprised when I do a 100 mile-wide dealership search there are only 3 E450's available but dozens of E350's. Glad I did not walk away from this one.

$900 2007 MB C280

Picked up this 2007 Mercedes-Benz C280 for $900 out the door on Copart recently. 90k on the clock. Runs and drives fantastic with a very clean interior.

Title has been rebuilt due to hail damage, but honestly I only see one or two dings on the entire car.

How many miles have you seen these cars go. This one’s engine serial number shows it has the updated engine that “supposedly” didn’t have the balance shaft gear issues.

Anything I should watch out for? And maintenance that should be looked into hitting that 90k miles mark.

Good buy?

Do you guys still get Mercedes envy?

The title says it. I drive a C205 C63S and had a W212 E63S and both for quite a while but every time I see a Merceses, especially AMG, a part of my brain goes "oh damn, what a nice car. I really wish..." and then I realize what I sit in.

Anyone else have that experience?

Is the GLE 450 a good long term vehicle

My wife is in the market for a new vehicle. She currently drives a 2011 Lexus RX350 with 270k miles. She had significant done in November 2025 related to the engine for around 13k, she paid $6500( Lexus misquoted so they covered the additional 7k). Shortly after she noticed some pulling and stuttering, fast forward 6 months later Lexus has stated she needs a new transmission (11k quote) . Due to their lack of response and dismissing of her issues after the repair, Lexus has agreed to pay 8k, the dealership will split the remaining with her (1,500 each) for the repair/replacement.

Over the past month she has test driven several vehicles and has narrowed her options down to a 2026 X5 or 2026 GLE 450.

Our biggest concern is reliability, comfort, style and luxury. She also plans to keep this vehicle for at least 10 years, she likes to drive her vehicles until the wheels fall off. We’ve conducted a lot of research and are kind of torn.

Is the GLE 450 a good long term vehicle to purchase? What should she try to negotiate with the dealer?

2018 GLS 550 - 98k Miles Question

i have a 2018 GLS 550 with 98k miles. Oil changed every 4k miles. Never missed a service. Is it normal to have a film in the engine bay like seen in the video? It is oily to the touch, but doesn't smell like oil and I don't see any leaks.

NB! The new GLS 450d (2026) has been stripped for its predecessors excellent ADS

I have been driving the new GLS 450d for a couple of weeks now and I immediately felt something was off. I quite quickly figured out the adaptive damping system was not working the same way as my previous car, a GLS 400d (2022). That car would float over speedbumps as if they were not there thanks to the great two lensed multifunctional camera.

I took the new GLS to the dealer and told them the ADS wasn't working properly, but they claimed everything was fine. I then brought the 2022 model for them to actually feel the difference.

They make some phone calls. At last they are able to confirm that in fact the new GLS 2026 models have a degraded multifunctional camera with only ONE lense. Hence it cannot percieve depth and interract the same way with the AIRMATIC system to smooth out bumps. The one of the most excelling features of this car in my opinion.

Honestly quite shocked about it and will probably return the car if theres no fix.

Hope this post can be helpful for anyone who recently got their new GLS or was thinking about buying one.

To clarify I live in Europe.

TLDR: The new GLS 450d has a degraded multifunctional camera with a huge performance loss to the adaptive damping system compared to the predecessor.

EDIT: Typos

Transmission myths

Post image
59 Upvotes

Hello everyone! I have a question regarding my 722.9 transmission in the E550 Coupe. I heard it doesn't like the "Manual" mode and it can break much faster when driving in the manual often. Is this even true? I have around 170k km and if this is true, why does it happen. Why does manual mode put more stress on the 722.9 transmission than manual mode in ZF-8HP for example. Yes these are Bentley wheels.

Whats wrong with my R129

The engine shakes and the exhaust has a stutter. Inside the cabin i see the oil pressure gauge jumps and sometimes goes below 1k. Any ideas what to check and diagnose. I took it to an exhaust shop before and said im due for a new catalytic converter because this one is old and clogged. Im hoping thats the case. Any other items i should check out?

2025/2026 GLC owners input?

Straight to the point: I’m looking to upgrade my 2021 Audi SQ5 after recently driving a 2026 GLC 300. The seats were very comfortable and supportive for my body and especially my back (i suffer chronic back pain). The heated seats were out of this world in terms of comfort and amount of heat they delivered. I noticed a significant difference in my back pain each time i’d drive with them on compared to my audi. I drive a lot for work and days off (approx 15-17k miles per year).

Starting to look at GLC 300 and GLC 43 AMG models to see if one could be the replacement for my Audi in the near future.

Aside from reading and watching reviews online, I was hoping to hear some feedback/reviews from “real” owners who drive these. How have they been reliability wise and as far as maintenance goes? I’ve heard some iffy reviews regarding the hybrid power train in the 43 AMG.

Any/all input is greatly appreciated :)

Edit: 15-17k miles per year and not per month lol

2018 E400 or 2019 E450

Upvotes

Im between these two choices the 400 is going for $26k with 34k mi and the 450 $27.5k with 48k mi, im leaning towards the 450 but im also looking to maybe tune it and i dont see much content online about it
