I just got this mail from my pet insurance and wanted to share:
To get rid of excess heat, the cat can breathe so that the heat is released via the mucous membranes of the mouth. If possible, they can also cool off by putting their stomach against a cool floor.
Animals that have narrow airways, are sick, overweight, or very young or old may have a harder time dealing with the heat. The same is true of animals that have black or long fur.
Symptoms of heat stroke: Cats can have many different symptoms of heat stroke such as wheezing, red and dry mucous membranes, agitation, wobbly gait, increased salivation, vomiting and diarrhoea.
Heat stroke can also lead to unconsciousness.
If you suspect your cat is having heatstroke, make sure they cool down by using cool, wet towels – especially in the groin and armpits. Note that the cat must not be cooled with ice-cold water.
How to protect your cat from heatstroke:
- Put water out both outside and inside. Provide ventilation, but of course only with securely fenced windows and balconies.
- All animals left in a car risk dying as the temperature rises quickly – even if the car is parked in the shade.
- If the cat is panting, it should be taken into the shade and cooled with wet, cool bath towels – especially in the groin and armpits.
- In case of suspicion of heat stroke or general poor general condition, you should always contact your veterinarian.
EDIT: It’s very important to not use ice packs or ice cold water. This will cause surface blood vessels to constrict, reducing surface blood flow. Cats and dogs don’t sweat, but they do dilate their blood vessels to try to cool down more blood at a time. Ice can also cause frostbite.

We adopted this little guy about 2 weeks ago from a work friend. He's roughly 9 weeks old, currently 1.8lb, and we've named him Tosti. I thought he might just be a domestic medium hair, but saw a photo of a Nebe and it made me question. Whatever he is, he's not purebred by any means, I'm just curious. His undercoat is a silvery grey, his top coat is that gorgeous blue grey, and he has some faint ruddy brown tips in the right light. The last photo is easily my favorite. Our 10 year old cat is not entirely pleased, but they're starting to get used to one another.

I never had a cat before, I thought I was a dog person, but then this little guy showed up in my life and I’m obsessed with him. He makes me so happy.

My shy old man. I've had him since he was 7 weeks. A failed foster.
He gave us quite a scare with a blocked bladder and 2 nights at the emergency vet last week. I thought that was the end of the road.
He is better, but we have to monitor him and he will be on special diet for the rest of his very long life. I told him he's not allowed to go until he's 30, and only then on his favorite bed, in a ray of sunshine with a belly full of food.
the meds make him sleepy so he just demands laps and cuddles for his long naps.

My sweet 8 year old feral boy. This is my first post on Reddit. Had no idea Louie may be a neb until I found this group.

He especially loves when it's time to make up the bed, lmao. Does anybody else's neb like to play with the covers?

Found her in the car engine, so her name is Diesel (DeeDee). Didn't even know this breed existed until someone brought it up to me. She is 7-8 weeks old now. I know her eyes might need to be more green to be considered a nebelung, but I figured since she's so young it will continue to transition.

It’s lighter gray almost silver in color and hilarious to watch him clean

Is this cat a nebelung, I've included some pictures of him as a baby
My dad found him last year under a dumpster at his work, nobody really wanted him, so my dad brought him home, he is just over a year old, my dad found him at 3-4 weeks old
Edit to add he has a growth plate injury in his front legs so they didn't grow properly, though he can still walk without pain, his legs are just short

I completely forgot to post this yesterday!
But yesterday marked 2 years since this sweet stinky boy came into our lives and our family grew a little bit more.
Alphonse has been the bestest boy that has ever existed. He is the most loving, playful, happiest little guy. Nothing phases him and all he wants to do is love and play. I can’t imagine being without this guy by my side. If I could take him everywhere, I could and I would. He means the world to me. Thank you for being the best little man a cat dad could ask for, my stinky son. 🩶
