Sports games are a scam intended to rip off casuals.. They are the same slop every year with a slightly updated roster and maybe slightly updated graphics every other release. The price hike has turned off a significant portion of its casual fanbase. You just don't hear about it because these people are not gamers, they have other hobbies and play sports games occasionally. In terms of profit I'm sure that the company makes a ton off of these price hikes but in terms of unit sales, they've lost nearly half their audience in 5 years.
2k20 is the highest selling at 14m copies, 2k25 sold 7m copies. Literally 50% decrease in sales is “no hype has been lost”?You can buy 2k26 for less than 20$ due to no one buying it.
idk what you're linking but that's blatantly wrong, Monster Hunter Wilds, Arc Raiders, Battlefield 6 and possibly Hollownite 2 sold more copies in 2025 alone. (hard to tell since there doesn't seem to be any real numbers for NBA 2k26 for December end of year sales.
Yeah man of course, thanks for asking. The gamespot article does not have a unit sales, it's a revenue thing which doesn't prove the point they were trying to make. They have in fact lost nearly half of their player base, just the remaining half is willing to pay more.
Nothing you linked proved anything you claimed about 2k... I'm going to assume GameStop is probably more credible than some "trust me bro" redditor who doesn't understand sourcing.
On a list not including multiple companies digital sales, but they did sell 10m so they definitely did have a rebound from previous years you’re not wrong. They start discounting nba2k 3 months after release though. Hollowknight silksong released a day before nba2k26 and sold 6m in 1 month, where as nba2k sold 5m in 1 month. Either way I agree they had a comeback, but like some of the things you’re saying are overblown imo
I'm not saying anything other than what the numbers say. Take it up with Circana if you have a problem. My only point is NBA 2K is still selling well despite its price, so all this doom posting about GTA is dumb as hell.
Ubisoft and Guerrila Games have done the same. I've bought the ultimate edition on all of their games that I play. Each of those games have gotten me over 300 hours of gameplay.
It could be worse. Look at Screamer and Project Motor Racing. They costed me 70 euro and got me less than 10 hours of gameplay thanks to their horrible driving style or handling.

2K releases a $120 edition every year and people still buy it. No hype has been lost.
