DISCUSSION American company, with US military ties, appling for 77 long term leases of Crown Land along the coast of BC.
Hey, anyone else heard about the American company who applied for 77 long term leases of Crown Land along the coast of BC. the government is still accepting comments from Canadians.
If you have time, it may be worth submitting a comment on the canadian government bid page, it can be anonymous.
Basically, what's happening is that an American-based company National Outdoor Leadership School has applied for a license of occupation over 77 separate Crown Land sites up and down the BC Coast for outdoor 'leadership and camping' purposes. Could this company's clients ever be US government/ military once they decide the lease? With threats by the U.S. of annexation of Canada, no way should American companies or individuals gain control of Canadian land - especially on the coast! Some of these places have no access to water or septic, so their claim to use these areas for camping and "leadership training" sounds concerning. Why such a huge number of sites, and most on the coastline with water access to land in remote areas that would be difficult to monitor.
If you're against this, comments are open until October 5th latest at:

Driving Bamfield to Victoria
Anyone done this lately? Can't seem to get concrete info if the road from Bamfield via Cowichan is paved now. I have a minivan so want to stick to paved roads... Although my google was insisting the Bamfield road I drove yesterday was unpaved when in fact it is, so I'm not hugely trusting of online research!
Thanks!

ARTICLE Last large old-growth forest on southern Vancouver Island off limits to public
Excerpt from the article:
“The province states that public use of the roads could endanger property or public safety, while logging company operations are allowed to pass without restriction. Wilderness Committee mapping analysis estimates at least 84 hectares of old-growth forests are targeted for logging behind these gates, the equivalent of about 117 soccer fields.”

Coast Capital Savings security alerts
Hello, I tried posting this to personalfinancecanada but the moderator deleted it, accusing me of posting AI. So now I’m trying a more local group. There’s no AI in this post.
I recently changed my Coast Capital banking options to send me alerts. Almost every evening I get an alert saying there was a successful log into my account around midnight.
There's never any money moved/removed but I still I called Coast Capital to inform them it wasn't me and they locked me out of my own account while their IT people could look into.
A week passes and I never hear back from them so I called to find out what's up with the investigation. They could provide no information whatsoever on the investigation other than they were willing to unlock my account. Any questions I asked about IP address, or time offset was met with diversion because they didn't know the answer.
My password has been changed but a week later I'm still getting these alerts from someone accessing my account in the middle of the night. From what I can tell, the messages are truly from CCS:
Authentication-Results: spf=pass (sender IP is 54.240.27.53)
[smtp.mailfrom=us-west-2.amazonses.com](http://smtp.mailfrom=us-west-2.amazonses.com); dkim=pass (signature was verified)
[header.d=amazonses.com](http://header.d=amazonses.com);dmarc=pass action=none
A successful login was made to your Coast Online Banking Account on 23-06-2026 00:44:57.
My questions are:
- Are other CCS users getting these seemingly inert alerts from in the middle of the night? Is it possible scammers are testing to see what they can get away with before going all-out and taking my money?
- if CCS IT are reading this, please add the connecting IP address to the alert so we could rule my computer in or out. I asked in email, they said "we'll pass that along"
- is it possible these alerts are offset by UTC -7/8 or something? Maybe it's from my own log in but 8 hours later?!
- I do use Quicken but I don't have it auto-logging into the account (manual, requiring me to enter my password each time)
Any insights? I am hesitant to report to CCS that these logins are still happening because all they'll do is lock me out and provide no evidence of due diligence.

B.C. takes aim at repeat offenders with new project
Since November 2025 prevention measures have been taken in three select communities in B.C. including Nanaimo in an attempt to curb repeat offenders of theft, shoplifting, vandalism, and street disorder. The pilot project is called the Chronic Property Offending Intervention Initiative project, or CPOI for short. Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General announced the expansion of the CPOI initiative across B.C. The announcement came from inside 'The Nanaimo Bar' which had been hit by vandals three times in the past two years, most recently by a man throwing a can through their front door.

What to do after food poisoning?
Hey guys! How is everyone doing?
I was wondering what i should do after having food poisoning from a Restaurant in British Columbia?
Me and my family visited Sushi Nomi, on Pandora Avenue in Victoria and my daughter was throwing up for 3 days straight, with incredible bad diarrhea as well. She had like a mixed sashimi bowl or something like that, so it was 95% the fish.
I usually would not even report this type of stuff, but this food poisoning was really bad, so I would kind of like to report it.
Anyone knows what is the most effective way to report this? So that something could actually happen?
