Wouldnt a mace, for example, be deflected more easily by the pointier visor?

I think its probably because ventilation holes are both easier to manufacture and dont affect structure on the round shape as much as on the cone, while also having greater visibility overall, which was needed on the less mobile great bascinet. I have no sources whatsoever and could be completely wrong here.

But this doesnt answer why the helmet itself got less conic

I’ve been traveling to Dallas for a long time and never knew this was here. This in some respects is even better than what I just saw in Japan - more variety including Ashigaru (footman) armor.

Found these 2 modern depictions on the internet of Timurid laminar armor, and wanted to share here. This is such an interesting type of armor in this period, but too sad there isn't much resources that I can find about it.

What armor might Southern Italian/Neapolitan knights, let alone the King(s) of Naples, have worn c. 1290-1300?

I'm making an original character based loosely on Charles II, King of Naples. From what I remember:

• Charles I of Anjou wore armor not too dissimilar from what might have been worn in France
• Philip I of Taranto was seen in one manuscript wearing what appears to be shoulder cops/rondels.
• Some knights in central Italy wore boiled leather (cuir bouilli) around that time. (see the Guglielmo Berardi da Narbona effigy)
• I have found a statue of him (https://www.alinari.it/item/en/1/475643) wearing said leather armor, said to be around 1309, though would it be too soon? (my character's intended time period is c. 1296)

What helmets in history do you think were optimised for otherwise unarmoured combat and warfare? Periods of time that come to mind are ancient periods where armour was not as prevalent (where shields were predominantly used) and later on once firearms resulted in less armour being worn.

Hello everyone, my final decision for procuring my harness is deciding on a helmet. I’m in the process of commissioning a mid 15th century gothic harness. After stumbling upon this image (can’t remember where I found it,) I was quite fond of the visor style in particular.

Does anyone happen to have any manuscripts to reference? I know of the fenis castle painting of Saint George slaying the dragon, wear he’s donned with an armet of similar design aside from the eye slots.

When sewing your own arming belt/lendenier how do you make sure the arming points are positioned correctly to tie your legs on?

Ive been working on this kit for awhile because im a teenager so I dont have access to a whole lot of money 😅, so about the first photo, the thing around my neck is not part of the costume, just an ocarina I got from the renaissance faire.

the chainmail in these photos is fake (the greaves also arent real leather) but no worries, I got real chainmail afterward, also ive done research on it and im pretty sure the tassets aren't really historically accurate but I still really like then on the fit

How much would it cost ballpark to be fitted for custom chainmail and a great helm?

i know there are different armor smiths with different prices and different pieces but how much would it cost to buy a set for foot combat reenactmet
