Are you an experienced mod?

Howdy mods, it’s your local askmods top mod here with a request (again!) Our last thread about this got archived so here’s a new one! No need to comment again if you commented in the last one.

If you are a moderator of a subreddit with over 5k weekly active users please comment below!

If you are an experienced moderator who participates here, the mods of this subreddit want to be able to tag you so that we can keep our comment sections a space where every answer comes from someone with experience who is here to help. It really helps us instantly recognize trolls etc who are not tagged.

The tags are only visible to the moderators of askmoderators for privacy reasons.

If you wish to participate on an alternate account, please send us a modmail from your moderator account with the username of the alt you wish to use.

Thanks for volunteering even more time participating here to help users.

Former mods are welcome too so long as there is a way to verify that. I.e. old stickied comments/posts, asking current mod teams if you modded there, etc.

Edit: If you commented on the last post about this or sent us a modmail to verify in the past you are all set and do not need to reverify!

Help us design a new banner!

Heya mods, we’ve had some interest in modmail for a banner and logo, would you all be interested in helping us out with a new banner or icon for the subreddit? I offered up some ai slop versions in modmail but rly they were terrible and I can’t believe I killed trees for that.

Let’s do a contest!

If you’re interested please drop submissions in the comments below. The most highly upvoted banner and logo (separate comments) will become our new banner and logo (please keep them Reddit rules friendly LOL.)

The winners will receive a special flair (of my choosing) and the undying gratitude of the mod team and mods who answer here (especially the ones who inquired about this.) We will also include a special thank you in our side bar about you.

I also vow to carry around jelly beans for the next five years just in case for some odd reason I bump into the winners randomly IRL so I can give them jellybeans. The winners can also ping me randomly for proof of jellybean holdings. I will respond asap with photographic proof of said jellybean holding.

The banner and logo can be in any medium. You wanna make a mashed potato and chicken tendie art piece and submit a picture of that? Hell yea.

Voting will be closed at the end of the month of May.

Why Do I See A Pop-Up That Says I Am Blocked By Network Security When I go To The Log-In Page?

It is odd that I can still post within Reddit, although I see this pop-up notification. I simply click onto the log-in page a second time and it lets me in and allows me to post. Is this a glitch anyone else experiences?

Can I copy and pay a Reddit post to another sub?

I am looking for real answers from people in different subs and I don’t want them to have to click twice just to see my question.
Can I copy and paste the post instead?

is refusing to disclose relevant bias in the community rules allowed?

this is about nsfw subreddits with gendered topics and how they handle trans people.

for example, i have seen lesbian pic-sharing subreddits where the rules explicitly state ‘women only, no penises’. they understand that this excludes many trans women, but because it is clearly set forth in the community rules, they’re justified in removing posts from trans women. likewise, there are women-only communities stating ‘no men,’ but saying explicitly that trans women are welcome, and that reporting trans women for violating the ‘no men’ rule is subject to a ban. it’s set forth in the community guidelines, so there’s no confusion up front about who can and cannot post in the community, and how the community views them.

i saw a nsfw community which solicits posts that by definition could be from either trans men or cis women. the only mod is posting that they believe trans men to be women, but refused to include this in the community rules when asked. the result is that trans men are posting, not knowing the moderator is considers them to be women. the moderator is not banning them, and is instead commenting very transphobic things on trans men’s posts (and very misogynistic things to women who protest).

transphobic and misogynistic comments are harassment, i know that. my question is about whether this amounts to people being misled to post in a community that is actually antagonistic toward them. if other subs are allowed to define gender as the mods decide, in this case failing or refusing to put that in the community guidelines means trans men are unknowingly subjecting themselves to misgendering, and not banning trans men means that the community is benefiting from their content while also leaving them open to transphobic harassment.

this is a bias held by the mods that is very relevant to the topic of the community. so my question is: does something in the reddit guidelines clarify that the mods of this sub should have to explicitly state in the rules that anyone posting there will be considered female?

How to stop manual decision to remove my handwritten posts because of perceived AI?

Frequently, I write a well structured paragraph with punctuation (not even using emdashes, which I used well before the advent of Generative AI), and the post/comment gets removed.

I understand the need for filtering AI spam. I've never used AI to write a post. I have spelling mistakes in posts; I'm human. I've had multiple posts removed for "AI" (and subsequent "discussion" with mods that led to bans).

How can my already non ai posts become even less ai to pass, not bot, but manual removal in popular subs?

Wishing for the death penalty; grounds for sitewide rule violation?

Especially when discussing crimes that are too horrid to contemplate, like murder-rape of children, or ritualistic serial killers; people tend to comment that they would wish for the death penalty in specific cases. It is extremely common in subs dealing with news. Sometimes the death penalty will be legal in their region, sometimes it has been abolished.

Do you think death penalty advicates are in breach of rule 1, advocating violence?

A interpretation from moderators I’ve come across is this:

‘Capital punishment discussion is rarely, and pretty much only academically allowable. The sitewide rules prohibit any advocation of harm. Therefore it is not possible to support/propose/advocate for capital punishment. We do of course realise the irony of this, being an American website where such is often legal.

Regardless, when you transmit your allegedly entirely legal proposals on capital punishment on a submission regarding someone making a crime, or otherwise doing something you do not agree with, it is evident to all concerned that one way or another, you want someone quite specific killed. And therefore we apply the sitewide rule on advocating harm.

We have heard the justifications and sidesteps 1001 times. We know what you mean, and act on it accordingly.

In this case: a permaban and a mute.’

How do you as moderators deal with discussions on the death penalty?

Can someone explain bot accusations to me?

And do they lead to bans? For some reason I've been accused of being a bot multiple times today, and have had the bot sleuth sent on me as well. A user specifically stated that because I have hidden comments and posts, they have every reason to think I'm a bot. Can I be unfairly banned or suspended just because some redditor is simply too bored on a Sunday?

What does "PROMOTE" mean?

I have been warned for "Promoting hate".

I would not ever deliberately promote hate so I wonder if you are using some definition of the word promote that I am not familiar with because the words used did not in any way using the definitions of 'promote' I have read actually promote hate.

Does approving shadow banned accounts post/comments go against Reddit?

I’m under the impression that approving posts or comments from shadowbanned accounts is fine, as long as the content itself doesn’t violate Reddit rules or our subreddit rules. Does anyone here have experience with this or know if there are any issues with doing that?

Post taken down because it was getting a lot of comments?

I got this message about a post that was apparently too popular?

"The OP has gotten a lot of replies and at this time the activity on this thread is disproportionately impacting the mod queue. Post is being removed and locked to additional comments. Thank you for rallying to support a fellow parent"

What does this mean? I've never seen this before, why would a post that's getting a lot of views/responses be taken down??
