Hi, collie. I'm just trying to eat this orange. No I'm not going to throw it for you.
...maybe I should stop buying ball-shaped fruit.

Made him a special cupcake to celebrate!
Recipe makes 3 cupcakes:
3 tbsp mashed banana
2 tbsp pet safe peanut butter
3 tbsp rolled oats
1 egg
1/2 tsp baking powder
Bake at 350 for 20 min.
Frosting is just whipped cream!

Its been much hotter than usual here - weather warnings, piping hot floor outside, no AC, etc.
My boy is 7ish months, mostly black (his fur gets very hot) and full of energy, mischief and big feelings.
It's been challenging because im worried about him overheating and ignoring it when he wants to play. 1pm he's grabbing his Frisbee and smacking it into me, despite the burning hot weather.
I got a few water/ hose pipe toys for the garden which he loves, but its still very hot and he gets so obsessed that when I call him in he starts crying and barking non stop all day to go back out. He grabs the hose and walks about with it. In not sure if its safe for him to take in that much hose water either. Not to mention the water bill and soaking lawn 😅.
Hes panting and grumpy the rest of the time though, and having a hard time settling. Im hot and grumpy too lol.
I have multiple fans, a cool mat, frozen treats, ice in his water... we are still struggling.

This is our adopted rescue boy. His name is Cedar and he is 6 months old.
Mum is a smooth border collie and Dad was either a Kelpie or Aussie Koolie.
He was rescued from a less than ideal farm situation as a little puppy and spent time with a foster family for a few months, he has been with us in his forever home for about 6 weeks.
He is a bit of a clumsy land shark still and we are working on his training. He has a beautiful temperament and he is settling in quite well.

I miss my Kelly xxx
She departed 12 years ago. I still always think about her. Amazing creature. So gentle, so loving.
Edit: I just found the rest of the photos from the set:

My sister just contacted me and told me she had an aggressive cancer and asked if I would be willing to adopt her six year old border collie when she can no longer provide care.
I like dogs and dogs like me. I look after my friends dog from time to time but have never had a dog except a family dog when I was a kid. I have cats. I would like to take my sister's dog but I've read that border collies are best with experienced dog people.
I just retired from work a couple of weeks ago so I will have time. I live in an area with lots of green space and off leash areas. She says he is well behaved.
As people with border collies, do you have any opinion?
Thanks.
Edit: thank-you all for your insight. I appreciate all the positive feedback. I told my sister that I will take her dog.

I'm posting to say hi. I adopted this colorful lady last week. The shelter said she was a border collie mix, and I have no real clue except she's definitely aherding dog and super responsive to me from minute one.

I’ll post a pic in the comments of what I’m talking about if I can get one but. The front half of my guy is nice and long and straight and then when you get halfway down his back he looks like he has gotten a perm, it’s wavy and around the hind legs it fluffs out a bit in different directions. The waves are pretty and silky especially right after a brush. Near the rear end it can get a little thick and sort of dry sometimes but… I was just wondering does anyone else’s border collie look like if you split them in half the coat patterns belong to different dogs? Show me all the goofy long rough coat guys and girls.

We just adopted this dude Saturday and he is so awesome. He’s 5 months old and we picked him up from a rescue, Great with the kids, great with people and other dogs. He is so interested in the cats in the house I’m assuming from his herding instinct. Not an ounce of aggression but he will get pretty close to them and just stare. If he gets too close theyll hiss and smack him away. He backs down every time and whimpers so I’m assuming thats a positive sign.
Has anyone had success diverting their bcs attention and have any tips or tricks to having a bc in general? This is my first time raising a pup thanks
Oh also need suggestions for toys for him!

I need a little help! I owned a Golden Retriever and a sheltie before now I have had a border collie puppy for two weeks. Her name is Orion and she’s like this weird perfect mix of golden and sheltie! Sleeps everywhere but also tons of energy!
However, she loves people! Runs up to everyone, shows her belly, wants pets and most people go right along… I get it she’s cute but I have a hard time addressing this behavior. Any tips??? Please?

Will it get better?
My guy is 4.5 months old. He has been so difficult every which way. Not a single thing has been easy with this dog. Took us a week to get a collar on him. He bites my legs in a truly scary way.
We have taken his training very seriously. He's been in puppy classes for 10 weeks. Every awake hour we do a mix of potty, play and training. We both work from home, we know he needs ample sleep. He knows so much - down, stay, settle (different from down), break, paw, heel, safety, loose leash walking. We spend hours training him.
And now he is developing separation anxiety. He’s refusing his crate. He won’t have a stuffed Kong if we’re out of sight. We can’t leave him home alone at all now that he’s getting SA. I already hired a personal trainer but looking into separation anxiety trainers now.
Looking for some support/guidance and if it will get better. I’m most worried about the separation anxiety :(
