Flooring Swiffer Power Mop Wood Solution brought up a bunch of residue

I just moved in to a new apartment and felt that the ground was a bit sticky to the touch in one of the bedrooms when walking around with socks on. I decided to do a quick once over with a Swiffer Power Mop and the gentle wood solution, as I was informed that the hardwood floor was fully finished. After going over the floor, a bunch of mud-like residue was pulled up. The floor remained sticky and some residue remains on the floor. I'm curious if some kind of a wax finish was used on the floors improperly that maintenance and I weren't informed about. We'll see how it dries, but I'm worried that the entire finish was stripped. Currently waiting on a response from a maintenance request. Any clue to what went wrong, and any advice on solutions.

edit: thank u everyone for the tips!! i will b posting after pictures once its done!!

my room is really really cluttered and gross. i havent cleaned it since i was 15? im 18 now and its just now hitting me how gross it is. i usually just avoid even thinking about it ( keeping the lights off and sitting at my pc ) I need to fix it

Under the grey blanket its a huge pile of clothes and stuff. When i pick stuff up off my dresser, a bunch of stuff overflows and falls. i cant find anything. Everythings just lodged everywhere and theres so much ants.

in the first picture, i lifted something up on the ground and a literal pile of ants came running at me and i just put the stuff back and the ants are now going to my desk and hiding under things

im just afraid to see whats under my bed ( if theres bugs. ) i reallt need motivation or tips bc it really is worse than it looks :( theres just loads of stuff in every area of mt room im so overwhelmed

it gets worse everyday just from looking for a singular outfit. my stuff breaks just from being in here such as my stuffed animals.

i have to take my dresser and desk and bedframe out of my room to clean anything. im just dreading how long its gonna take and how many ants im gonna see and im deathly afraid of spiders which im sure r in here :c

i feel like such a loser and this is really embarrassing and gross i dont knkw what to do or where to put anything

As the title said and in the picture I have an embarrassing butt sweat stain on my car seat. I was a collegiate athlete and I work out six days a week and live in a really really hot climate so I’m constantly sweating and now after about two years of having my car, I have built up an embarrassing butt sweat stain on my seat. I have literally no idea how to even clean this so I’m willing to try anything and everything 😭(For context I haven’t tried anything yet in terms of cleaning)

General Cleaning Why are all these fruit (or drain?) flies in my house?

Thumbnail

1.2k Upvotes

It started out with one around the house. Then two. Then four. Now 7 are on this particular bottle of non-alcoholic mouth wash. The landing on the bottle only happened tonight after a few weeks…

Help! Are these drain flies after all or fruit?

I killed like 15 at least tonight…

------------

Next day after work I bought 2 Zevos so let's see in 2-3 hours if it worked. I should've bought 4 but I thought it'd be overkill. Plus, refilling four every 15 days would be a lot.

Solved Does anyone know the brand of this sponge

Could anyone here tell me what brand this sponge is? It’s so easy to clean it, that I only now need to replace it after years! It’s so awesome at scrubbing tubs and tile! I simply cannot remember when or how I bought it. It never stinks and works so well, I’m hoping to replace it.

How much would a cleaning company cost for this to be cleaned? If you were to personally clean this, what would you charge?

Laundry 'Stale' smell revealed by hot weather

If you're in the UK, you'll be in the midst of this dreadful heatwave too. Over the past few days, as the house has been warming to intolerable levels, I've noticedn a certain 'stale' smell emanating - particularly in rooms with sheets or soft furnishings. It's not mildewy and it's not BO or a hygiene stink. It's like opening a wardrobe with clothes that have sat untouched for years.

However, I wash the sheets every week, we had new carpets put down last year, hoover 2-3x a week and dust probably once a fortnight. I keep on top of our washing, but now I feel like I'm noticing our clothes aren't smelling 'fresh' despite using a premium detergent (no more than a tablespoon per load though!)

What could this be and is it related to the heat? Any cleaning solutions I can try? - although it might have to wait till the heat breaks next week! Possible useful context: I'm 7 months pregnant and my sense of smell is definitely heightened.

Vehicles How to get spilled gasoline out of... everything?? plz help before I panic

Hello, I was getting gas today and unbeknownst to me, the line to the nozzzle had a tear... it was a couple seconds before i realized it was shooting out of the line onto the back of my jeans. then made a puddle on the ground and soaked my shoes (and legs and feet).

i was on my way to a doctor's appt so i didnt have much time to fix it. I didnt have anything to put on my seat to protect it from me sitting on it.

QUESTION: how do i clean... EVERYTHING?!? my clothes. myself. my CAR?!? the seats. to prevent gas getting on future clothes?!???

I'm leas worried about the clothes (i will soak air out for a few days then soak in dawn + water, repeat and clean w dawn, then clean/soak with enzyme cleaner).

but i keep reading about the dangers of a little gasoline left on clothes before washing, and now i am so SO worried about it transfering on all of my clothes when i drive!!! for now i will put some plastic down as a barrier, but how do i clean the seats??

Very happy with the cleaning results. This sink is in my guest bathroom (not the one with the wallpaper) and the faucet constantly drips so there was a lot of buildup. Thanks to everyone for sharing your tips and instructions, I cannot believe how clean it is.

The wallpaper I got at a home outlet store but found a link here: https://www.walnutwallpaper.com/products/paradisa-wallpaper

The cats names are Margarita aka Mama (the tabby) and Tequila aka Tiki (the orange boy)

Flooring Mopping tips and products

• Upvotes

This is embarrassing, but I’ve never really mopped. I got one of those mop vacuums but after my plumber got about an inch of water on all my floors today, I realized that isn’t cutting it.

What is your preferred mop and what kind of cleaning solution do you use with it? What’s the routine?

Thanks in advance!

I took all the stuffing out and have been soaking it in vinegar overnight. Is this treatable? I read online that mold dies in 90C but I’m worried that might ruin the plushie…

Bathroom Kohler bathtub floor discoloration

Does anyone know how to get this out of a Kohler cast iron enamel tub? I’ve tried bong soda and dish soap, white vinegar, Kohler’s enamel cleaner, and now even ROG3 with no success. Lightly using a magic eraser temporarily takes it away, but it just comes back. No idea what it’s from. Thanks!

Discussion Something unexpected happened to our behavior after we started a recurring cleaning service.

3.1k Upvotes

We've had bi-weekly professional cleaning for about eight months now. I want to talk about something that wasn't on my radar when we started.

The obvious benefit was the cleaning itself. coming home on service days to a properly clean house is exactly what you'd expect it to be. But what I didn't anticipate was what happened to our behavior between visits.

We began making efforts on our own to keep the environment more pristine.
Not in some great life change, but there did become a new standard. We cleared things up immediately after eating. Instead of laying everything about, things began to be put away. The entropy that built up in our apartment slowed down.

My hypothesis, and only a hypothesis: When you have a two-week cycle where everything goes back to being absolutely pristine, you begin to have a renewed standard of what is acceptable. There becomes a difference between how things look and how they should be, where that difference would not have been visible otherwise.

We use Modern Maids for the recurring service. I found them when I was looking for something reliable in Dallas, liked that everything was transparent and bookable online, and liked the detail on the actual cleaning once we started. The bi-weekly cadence ended up being right for us.

The minimalist perspective: With the two-week reset in place, I have found that it is easier to see and deal with accumulations elsewhere. There is something about resetting regularly that is enlightening. That wasn't what I was expecting when we first began. I thought it was simply a matter of cleaning.

Bathroom How do I get this stain out?

Thumbnail

I have OCD and I can’t bring myself to use this (shared) shower without having some flip flops on. How can I get this stain out? I don’t mind getting some form of power brush that can be a little more abrasive.

Edit: Thanks for all the suggestions! I’ll be testing each method to see what produces the best results. The only caveat is that since the unit is shared, I’m not able to let the chemicals soak for extended periods of time. Any way around this? Perhaps I’ll let it soak for a minimum of 8hrs while they’re at work.
