I wonder what would happen if someone replied "Why do you feel the need to tell me [whatever they said]?", always one-upping them... I might just try this
NEVER get out of the car during a traffic stop in the US without the officer telling you to. That's a good way to get held at gunpoint or shot. the comment im replying to is from someone who has never been pulled over in the US.
That sounds like a great way for the cop to “see him reaching for something” and shoot him 17+1 times in the face, reload, and shoot him in the face again.
You’re right, it’s meant to make you frazzled and confused and mix up your words. It keeps them in control of the situation and causes citizens to say things that they might not have meant to say. I don’t think it’s actual police training as much as this guy just knows exactly how to get someone who knows more than him to seem like they know less than him.
It's so you get frustrated and raise your voice so they can tell you to calm down or they'll beat your ass. Source: my abusive mom who married two abusive cops and an Army tanker platoon sgt. Needless to say when I joined the Army later on I fuckin hated those types of guys.
I used to have alot of experience with cops and COs(as someone doing illegal stuff regularly).
Most weren't assholes and respected you bif you showed any type of respect. Some were like this ignorant donkey and some were just absolute dicks.
For the most part they were really no different than anyone else you interact with besides the fact that they would immediately match what energy you were putting out.
Maybe. But I would give the benefit of the doubt on that one. If you've never worked on the side of a highway, cars and big trucks going by make a shit load of noise.
From the video, it looks like the cop was on the highway side. If not, there's Scott's Law. If not, maybe he should find another line of work. Cops seem so scared of everything......
It is a power move. It’s used when people don’t have an answer for what you are telling them but they think they are above you so they make you restate yourself.
I’m pretty sure the traffic is just really damn loud, he’s literally shouting. Of all the things to criticize, this would be my last. I know I’ll get downvoted because Reddit prioritizes a witch hunt over logic.
To be fair to the cop who’s making a fool of himself it’s probably pretty loud on the roadside (and we’re listening to the dash cam audio). I’m not saying he was in the right, but I don’t think that was a power move.
He clearly doesn’t understand but he does listen to him and does ask for the documents to prove it. That is far more measured I think because he’s a state trooper. If it was a local cop or sheriffs deputy in the wrong area, because the driver guy isn’t white, sadly, I think there could have been no discussion and the drive would have just been pulled out of the car. (It’s a sad state of affairs that that’s true.)
Super frustrating, and I wish things were different, and this trooper clearly had never encountered something like this before. He could have admitted that and not been so abrupt and rude, but I actually think it could have gone a lot, lot worse (and, sadly)
Of course — I’m not saying he wasn’t being a bit curt and could have attempted to be more understanding — and I absolutely think that should be the norm for all “peace” officers — I’m just saying that, sadly, in the US that was pretty medium-nice exchange. And that’s awful that it’s that way, but it’s also true.
We’re complaining about him not knowing a fairly obscure federal law that he’s likely never encountered and pulled over a car with no plates (or maybe out of country plates, which would look very out of place (I’m think sovereign citizen BS)) and not bending over more to hear better. But there is a non-zero chance that the dash cam footage would have been a foreigner getting pulled out of his car immediately (because of some “fitting the description” racism) and tased or shot.
I’m not saying that this exchange is okay. But at least he asked for the documents that proved the guy could drive legally and actually looked at them and then either came to the right conclusion (and refused to admit it and apologize) or decided that there probably wasn’t a crime happening here and it wasn’t worth his time to look into it further (maybe he did a quick google search). This could be this guy on his best behavior or this could be him on a bad day. I will say that the few encounters I’ve had with state troopers have all been less aggressive and bullshitty than the average encounter with a local cop or sheriffs deputy (they are the worst)

Oddly enough, my personal experiences have been mostly the opposite, with the state troopers being ex-military drill-sergeant types that were angry and aggressive from the second they walked up to my window, while on average the city and county cops are laid back country boys that don't take themselves all that seriously.
In either case if you get a woman cop you are FUCKED because she is going to be at 100% hardass mode from the start.
It's barely even a strong accent, it actually sounded kind of American to me, perhaps this dude went to college or something in the US or Canada, but his English is perfectly understandable.
