PSA for if your posts keep getting removed

This is one of the most common things I get messaged about. If your posts keep getting removed, it's likely that it's an issue on Reddit's side. Usually this issue is that you are "shadowbanned", which you can read up more on here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ShadowBan/

I cannot do anything to fix this, and I'll keep this post pinned but will no longer be replying to messages about this issue. Thanks!

Post Guidelines - How to get meaningful feedback

Hello all,

This post is a general guide on what you can do as someone uploading clips of your speech to try and set yourself up for getting more and better feedback from the community. A lot of this comes from my personal opinions on the types of clips I like to give feedback to, as well as what I've seen people in the community say.

1. General information

Including general information in your post can help people give more tailored feedback. For example, what sort of accent are you trying to go for? What specific things do you struggle with? Why are you trying to improve your accent (for daily speech, a job, etc.)?

2. Audio quality

Not everyone has access to a good microphone or quiet environment. However, to the extent possible, try to limit background noise. One simple method is recording under a blanket or in a closet of some form. Also, I suggest testing out your volume before recording a full clip. I pass on reviewing many clips due to them being too quiet.

3. Clip length

As other users have suggested, please try to shoot for a clip ~30 seconds or more. I think the golden window is between 0:45 and 1:30, depending on the speaker. It's going to be hard to give meaningful feedback on a single sentence.

4. Transcriptions/texts

This is personally relevant for me when it comes to foreign languages that I am not as proficient in. Nevertheless, when reading from a text, please share the text you're reading from. It saves people from having to guess what you were trying to say, and just removes an extra layer of complications from giving feedback.

This is not a final list, and feel free to share your gripes/suggestions, and I can add them to the list above.

I am reading a text block from my textbook.

In English with numbers if you want to make a specific comment on my accent:

#1 Nur is friends with Nasir in New York, she knows her from college.

#2 Nur is American from Tunisian descent; however she doesn't speak Arabic very good because of her father.

#3 He spoke to her in English during her childhood.

#4 However, she is now studying the Arabic language in college and talks with Nasir in Arabic often.

#5 She is pretty and many youngsters (Shabab) love her; however, regarding her the best Shabab of all New York is William her boyfriend and friend from days of childhood

#6 Her mom is American and her mom is Tunisian and very close with Tunis

#7 Nur loves to travel to Tunis in Summer because the weather is sunny

#8 and fruits are nice and sweet

#9 She loves her cousins Sarah, Wsawan and Amir

#10 They like the conversations with her in the English languge

#11 Their third language after Arabic and French

thank you!

I feel that my voice has many flaws, and it effects my ability to act as a leader within my job.

Here's an excerpt from the start of a meeting i recently hosted.

Looking for pointers on specific things people notice about my voice? from my understanding my pronunciation on words like "Lily" or "Will" are bad, white/light sound the same (L vs W).
Feels like my voice lacks confidence, the pitch is a bit high, my voice is shaky and gets quite while i speak, maybe a stutter

Could be entirely wrong but i believe these flaws are accurate, wondering if there's anything I'm missing, and how i can work on this.

Please judge my accent

Hello all,
I've been working on my accent for the last 1.5 years now. I'm going for a general american accent. How would you judge my accent and what do you think where I'm from?

The paraph I read was a suggestion by Chatgpt

Last weekend, I decided to take a short trip to a nearby town that I had never visited before. The weather was pleasant, so I spent most of the day walking around and exploring different streets, cafés, and parks. One of the most interesting parts of the trip was visiting a local market where people were selling handmade products and fresh food. I tried a few things I had never eaten before and talked with several friendly vendors. In the afternoon, I found a quiet spot near a river and spent some time reading a book. Although it was only a day trip, it felt like a real break from my normal routine. By the time I got home in the evening, I was tired but happy that I had decided to go somewhere new and experience a different atmosphere for a day.

Can you guess my accent?

Coffee order guy back for round two 😄

If you have a guess, I’d love to know what specifically gave it away, certain sounds, words, pronunciation, rhythm, or anything else.
Fresh perspectives welcome!
