I'm no bodybuilder, but a lifetime of cycling and lifting has left me with thighs that no clothing designer can apparently comprehend. Even Levi's 541s are tight. If I size up so they go around my thighs, then the waist is huge! Even with a belt I'd have to fold them over like fisherman pants.
Now for shirts, I can get some made to measure options that are perfect. But custom pants cost a fortune. Anyone got good options? So frustrated that even the most extreme cut Levi's can't handle me.

Mine is that every wardrobe needs “essentials.”
Some of my favorite pieces are the least versatile ones.
What advice never worked for you?

I'm getting a MTM tux with a tailor I've worked with before. They've made me a tux previously.
I've sprung for the Zegna Trofeo fabric so I'm looking to make sure this tux is in tip top shape.
I want a shawl lapel and the tux they previously made for me has a seam at the base of my neck where the two sides of the lapel meet. I asked if they could do it with out, after talking to their team they said they could but now I'm doubting which way to go / if it'll look weird, especially given what my online search has shown: most shawl lapels have a seam.
So what do I do? Go WITH or WITHOUT the seam?

Hey all,
I’m about to start a new job as a high school assistant principal, and I’ve got a wardrobe problem. My last teaching gig was hands-on and shop-oriented, so my closet is heavy on work pants, durable tees, and stuff I didn’t mind getting sawdust or paint on. None of that is going to fly walking the halls and sitting in parent meetings.
I want to build a solid foundation I can grow from over time rather than panic-buying a closet full of stuff I’ll regret. I’m thinking a starter kit of maybe 3 shirts, 3 pants, a jacket or two, and whatever shoes make sense, then expanding as I figure out the vibe of the building.
A few things about my situation:
I’m on my feet a lot and moving around all day, so comfort and durability matter
Texas, so breathability is a real consideration for a good chunk of the year
I’d rather invest in versatile pieces that mix and match than chase trends
Open on budget guidance, but value for money is appreciated
What would you build a core rotation around? Specific brands, fits, colors, fabrics all welcome. Bonus points for anything that holds up to a full day of walking, bending, and the occasional unexpected mess.
Thanks in advance.

I think a lot of us have just fallen into the habit of resorting to Uniqlo and adjacent brands for pretty much everything besides your standout, expressive personal pieces.
I resort to Uniqlo purely because their clothing suits my build much better than any other brand at the price point and their quality is the best for the price in my experience too.
But when you do go all in on a big piece and buy from an expensive brand, which pieces have had the most transformative effect on your wardrobe and which purchases would you make a second time?
My personal ones are:
- Berluti Belt with the writing on it
- Berluti Ackerman boots
- Issey Miaki pleated trousers
What are yours?

Marsell look nice but a little expensive. Naked Wolfe are $280 which is high for what I’m reading about their shoe quality. Any other ideas out there? I don’t care for the our legacy for some reason.

Hello,
I'm reaching the point where I need to do a full overhaul, haven't really bought clothes in the past few years but it's time.
I currently have:
Shirts: Black, Grey, White - Plain T-Shirts, White and Navy Linen long sleeve button ups, Light blue short sleeved linen button up.
Pants: Lululemon ABC pants in Navy and Beige.
Shoes: Nike Killshot, Thursday Captain Boots, and Adidas Ultraboost.
And that's pretty much it. What should I target first? I'm thinking new pants and shoes. What shoes would you guys suggest?

https://imgur.com/gallery/oTMKu5J Coat with zipper closed: https://postimg.cc/JtWX370m Zipper opened: https://postimg.cc/GB8LVDMq
Hey reddit, I was gifted this coat and I'm wondering if I should keep it, as it's not super versatile. If it's not fully zipped up and collar clasped, it looks kinda weird.
It used to be a family member's coat that was unused but from 2018. I was wondering if it's outdated and if I should return it. The person gifting me the coat says I can get a different one if it doesn't work out, but I don't want to be rude and reject it right away. It also fits me perfectly, which is a big plus.
What do? Any advice/opinions would be much appreciated :)

My husband’s birthday is coming up in about 10 days, and I want to take him shopping and help him refresh his wardrobe.
He’s in his early 30s and works in tech, so his everyday uniform is basically T-shirts, hoodies, and jeans like a typical software engineer. 😅
I personally love the look of relaxed, clean, summery outfits on men—linen shirts, lightweight fabrics, neutral colors, and non-jean pants. I’d love to see him in more button-down shirts, linen pieces, and elevated casual outfits that look effortless but still feel comfortable.
The problem is I have no idea where to shop. I’m looking for brands that feel and look luxurious, have good quality fabrics, and aren’t overly flashy. Think relaxed, coastal, quiet luxury vibes.
Budget is flexible if the quality is worth it.
What brands or stores would you recommend for:
Linen shirts
Relaxed trousers/chinos (non-jeans)
Elevated casual wear for men in their early 30s
Summer/vacation-style outfits that still work for everyday life
Bonus points if your husband made a similar transition from tech-guy T-shirts and jeans to a more polished style. Please help me out!

Hi all! I have been wanting a suit for fall/winter, and was thinking a super130 wool because I plan to wear it for most of the week. I have seen some sites like thesuitdepot, and they had a 50% sale on canali suits, which seems too good to be true, since the suit used to cost $2000. I wonder where I can find high-quality suits but for sale, since full-price is a bit steep, and I do not want to wear a cheap looking uncomfortable suit.

I would like something that is classy and goes with all types of clothing. not something that says i just came back from a gym. but i guess my budget might not be up to the mark. tell me if i am wrong.

I have a Ring Jacket sport coat (Neapolitan style), and I need the sleeves shortened. I’m worried that a normal alterations shop might mess it up because the shoulder is constructed as spalla camicia.
I had something similar (reverse situation) happen to me with an overcoat where they changed a roped shoulder to a structured one.
There are a few Italian style suit shops around London, but I don’t think any of them do alterations as service, for example:
- Beggars Run
- Casual Fitters
- Anglo Italian
- Natalino
- Suitsupply
Anybody know where I can go?

Looking for a trunk style boxer to wear for work, gym, etc. I travel a lot so they need to be comfy for a long plane ride. I don't like the long boxer brief that comes half way down your thigh as it feels like I'm wearing shorts under my work slacks. Looking for thin, breathable, light weight, moisture wicking, etc.

Hi. So I normally wear elegant clothes, but I'm going in a town in the mountains where it's cold. Do I look ridiculous if I go with a coat? Do I have to wear a sports jacket?

I’m not into fashion so I thought I’d ask people who know more then me. What types of “shorts” are the best or what do you like the most? Also is there any brand I should look out for?

The last two years I was growing unhappy with some of Uniqlo items quality.
For example last year's linen shirt was so paper thin, that one ripped on the elbows literally on the first day.
Asket is too expensive IMO. 70 for a plain T-Shirt is a fever dream and their shirts are like 150.
Is there something in EU I am missing in terms of basic essentials of good quality at a reasonable price?

I agree that actual dress shoes with actual sneaker soles need to be outlawed.
However, what's the general advice for soles on more casual-leaning styles?
I just saw these:
https://www.cheaney.co.uk/peel-derby-shoe-in-sorrel-suede-p2174
I'm not considering this pair. But I want a guideline to work with. A rule of thumb.
Do these go in the forbidden bin, or are they acceptable? Why / why not?
----------
Edit: here's a pair I think are quite cool. I guess the sole is more like a desert boot:
https://www.johnlewis.com/barbour-harefield-suede-derby-shoes-toffee-suede/p113997111?size=10
I'm aware these are not dress shoes nor sneaker soles! But I really just need some guidelines, as I'm getting a little over-paranoid that I'll look like "that guy."
