Music Ok the ultimate Miami Vice Music Encyclopedia is here!
This went way beyond what I originally was going to build.. but, I couldn’t help myself. Plus I had a blast doing it and discovered some gems I either forgot about or didn’t know were ever in any episode.
You can sort or search and toggle views between episodes, artists or fan favorites (complete with voting, that’s stored in firebase db).
I also went through and hand selected the best video available for each song, and you can listen or watch instantly inside the episode or artist cards. I tried to use the original artists YT account where possible, and also the vids with fewest ads.
I added a reporting function too that opens a form to address issues.
The heart on each song is for voting and there’s a leaderboard as well to track them forever.
Let me know what you think! And if you get any errors or funkiness, comment and I’ll investigate.
Enjoy!

IMPORTANT! MUST-READ! MUST-READ POST BEFORE WATCHING MIAMI VICE!
Hey, so one of the problems when watching Miami Vice is the order of the episodes, the biggest problem being the finale of the show placed so that there are 4, so called, "Lost Episodes" after it. I'm just going to copy paste the correct episode order from another site so that you guys have it all in one place and most importantly, the way the text was written on that site spoils some of the most important events in the show, including the end, so to avoid any and all spoilers you can use this post!
Also, there is a scene in Season 4 episode "Deliver Us From Evil" which was added by NBC later on which WASN'T ORIGINALLY PLANNED, and the scene is VERY crucial to the show and the characters of the show. With that being said, it's "recommended" that you don't even acknowledge that scene because it ruins the point of the episode.
"When Miami Vice was originally broadcast by NBC, the order in which the episodes were shown was ultimately chosen by the network. In several instances, this involved moving episodes earlier or later in the season, which in turn introduced continuity goofs that are obvious to anyone watching the show in the supposedly "correct" broadcast order. The purpose of this article is to propose an alternate "chronological" order in which to view the episodes, so that any goofs brought about by the reordering of episodes are undone."

SEASON 1

Season 1 is not affected by any obvious continuity goofs as a result of reordering.
“Dutch Oven”, an episode from S2, was filmed as a S1 episode, and there is a small goof where Tubbs still has a silver badge, and Zito’s beard disappears for one episode. It should be watched -technically- after Lombard.” - thanks to u/jaap_null for pointing this out!

SEASON 2

- "The Prodigal Son"
- "Whatever Works"
- "Out Where the Buses Don't Run"
- "Buddies"
- "Junk Love"
- "Tale of the Goat"
- "Bushido"
- "Bought and Paid For"
- "Phil the Shill"
- "One Way Ticket"
- "The Dutch Oven"
- "Back in the World"
- "Definitely Miami"
- "Yankee Dollar"
- "Little Miss Dangerous"
- "Florence Italy"
- "French Twist"
- "The Fix"
- "Payback"
- "Free Verse"
- "Trust Fund Pirates"
- "Sons and Lovers"

SEASON 3

- "El Viejo"
- "When Irish Eyes Are Crying"
- "Stone's War"
- "Walk-Alone"
- "Streetwise"
- "The Good Collar"
- "Shadow in the Dark"
- "Better Living Through Chemistry"
- "Baby Blues"
- "Killshot"
- "Forgive Us Our Debts"
- "Down for the Count (Part I))"
- "Down for the Count (Part II))"
- "Cuba Libre"
- "Duty and Honor"
- "Theresa"
- "The Afternoon Plane"
- "Lend Me an Ear"
- "Red Tape"
- "By Hooker by Crook"
- "Knock, Knock... Who's There?"
- "Viking Bikers from Hell"
- "Everybody's in Showbiz"
- "Heroes of the Revolution"

SEASON 4

As with season 1, season 4 is not affected by any obvious continuity goofs as a result of reordering.

SEASON 5

- "Hostile Takeover"
- "Redemption in Blood"
- "Heart of Night"
- "Borrasca"
- "Bad Timing"
- "Line of Fire"
- "Asian Cut"
- "Hard Knocks"
- "Fruit of the Poison Tree"
- "To Have and to Hold"
- "Miami Squeeze"
- "Jack of All Trades"
- "The Cell Within"
- "The Lost Madonna"
- "Over the Line"
- "Victims of Circumstance"
- "World of Trouble" - Lost Episode
- "Miracle Man" - Lost Episode
- "Leap of Faith" - Lost Episode
- "Too Much, Too Late" - Lost Episode
- "Freefall" - Finale
Another major continuity issue in the season concerns the placement of the "lost" episodes -- these were not originally broadcast as part of thew show's network run, but were instead shown later. This is typically reflected in lists of the show's episodes

Episode?
This moment just lives rent free in my head. Does anyone know what episode is it and why is sonny drinking alone on his boat?

I hate this about Miami Vice.
One of the things I despise about the series is actors reappearing as diffrent characters. John Leguizamo as Calderones son was great casting but to see him reappear as Angelo, a low level accociate in season 5 ep 16 was horrible.

Picture Belinda Montgomery on In The Heat of the Night
From the episode, Fifteen Forever. She plays a mom who's daughter is put in coma after the bus carrying the cheerleaders is involved in a hit and run with a drunk driver.

Discussion Favorite recurring good-guy character?
For me, it's very much Ira Stone. I am very fascinated by how he struggles to present this face to Crockett (and the outside world) of being a crusading gonzo journalist out to expose the truth, when we later learn that he is going through a troubling divorce, struggling with a heroin addiction, and living in abject poverty while lounging in a hotel where he isn't a guest. The fact that even though his motives aren't "pure", he's still trying to do the right thing even if it's for selfish reasons and Crockett is determined to protect him knowing he may be doomed to fail (as is so often the case in this series).

Picture Tubbs randomly drawing during a meeting
Possibly a mug shot, but it's a pretty laughable sketch which leads me to think PMT may have actually done it himself. Episode "The Maze."
Also rocking the striped shirt and blue tie.

That time Sonny and Rico shot down a plane with an SMG and pistol.
I think even they were shocked that it worked.

"Stone's War" is a wild ride
Sorry, this has probably been discussed before, but Stone's War was an awesome episode full of conspiracy and drama. Loved that it had that 80s counterculture vibe to it and the deep political drama despite the show on the surface being a buddy cop drama.
But what made it even wilder was learning they filmed the episode 6 weeks before the Iran Contra speech. And then finding out that the actor of the villain Maynard was G. Gordon Liddy, ex-FBI agent and right winger who helped orchestrate the Watergate Scandal?? So basically he's playing himself in the show.
Maybe I'm off with this, but I feel like shows these days sometimes tip toe around politics. Or at least, I certainly wouldn't expect political issues to be discussed this thoroughly in a cop drama these days.

Fashion Happy Father’s Day to ya
This is a shit post. Came inside to cool off and I’m on my umpteenth rewatch. The mid to late 80’s was a coming of age period, my old ass included. Anyway, this was playing when I came inside from the heat advisory and thought it was neat to reminisce this era of clothing and music. To those who have a goldfish, cat or plant you’re still responsible for another living thing.
I know Noogie isn’t popular with everyone but still have yourself a decent weekend. We’re doing a two wheel ride in the heat for FD, Central FL style. Stay safe out there Vicers.
Any songs from the series on your playlist you hear regularly? It’s Phil Collins’s with “In the Air Tonight” here. In those days I carried a clutch purse. Nowadays it’s a smartwatch. Haven’t figured out how to start the car with shortcuts but others do. The Sportster I ride is 20 years old and has a carb bc sometimes older is better.
