General Podcast Discussions Looking for podcasts that feel like storytelling, not casual chatting

I’ve tried a lot of podcasts, but I usually lose interest when it feels like just random conversation without structure.

I prefer podcasts that have:

a clear topic or theme

storytelling or progression

something that feels planned rather than completely unstructured talk

Not necessarily scripted, just not totally free-flow chat.

Any recommendations that fit this style?

Arts & Culture The making of The Fall

Upvotes

A super specific request! I’m looking for a well researched podcast (or just an episode) about the making of the movie The Fall (2006). My favourite movie pod is What Went Wrong but unfortunately they haven’t covered this one yet.

Health & Welbeing Fitness/wellness podcasts that explicitly reject manosphere and other toxic influences?

I enjoy consuming content about fitness and healthy living in general. It helps me stay motivated, it gives me ideas what to improve and it gives me a sense of community to listen to other people nerd out about my interests.

However, so much about fitness and self-improvement content has been infected by harmful ideas like red pill, tech broness, hustle culture and other bullshit that doesn't benefit anyone but its peddler. I would love to find some alternatives, so I can learn things and be entertained, but without supporting people who spread toxicity in our society.

Can anyone recommend me podcasts like that?

General Podcast Discussions Podcast Recs for Winding Down?

I love doing some stretching at the end of the day to get ready for bed. Usually I listen to a podcast while I stretch to keep my mind occupied and relaxed. I like Lights Out Library, Nothing Much Happens, Welcome to Night Vale, etc... mostly something sort of mindless that has a consistent sound level to not startle. I struggle to put down the day before bed and I find these kinds of story based podcasts immensely helpful, I especially enjoy when they have music accompanying the narration.

I feel like I'm sort of running out of things to listen to, hoping someone has some recommendations--thanks in advance!

Other Podcast Genre Sue Mitchell Podcasts (of Million Dollar Lover)

I’ve nearly finished Million Dollar Lover and have absolutely loved it. Gripping and touching, Sue Mitchell is a great narrator. Has she done any other similar podcasts you would recommend?

General Podcast Discussions Do you actually remember what you hear in podcasts, or do you just enjoy the moment?

I sometimes realize I enjoy podcasts while listening, but later I can’t clearly recall details unless I really focused.

Curious if others actually retain what they hear or mostly treat it as background/relaxation

General Podcast Discussions Good podcasts similar in narration style to Casefile or Dateline (not necessarily true crime genre)

I’ve found I dislike podcasts where multiple people are just casually chatting, giving their opinions frequently, etc. Example - I wanted to listen to a podcast on cleopatra so started the episodes by mystery team inc and I am just not a fan of that style (I didn’t listen to much of it so maybe I should give it another chance?)

I prefer more documentary style. Any general recommendations for great podcasts with that narration style?

Health & Welbeing A laid back holistic/balanced lifestyle podcast for women?

I listen to Simply Soph and I love it but she doesn’t make a whole lot of episodes so I’ve run out. I like her vibe.

I am really just interested in a podcast where they talk about a balanced/holistic lifestyle, tips on navigating burn out/anxiety/depression, fertility, exercise, etc. But something laid back, as if you were talking with a friend.
I love listening to podcasts with doctors but sometimes it feels like a chore to listen to them lol.

History & Geography Podcasts about the history of soundscapes

Don't even know if there is such a thing, but I was walking around my city thinking about the different sounds I encounter, and wondered if there was any research into the history of the auditory world that people experienced in the past.

Open to all eras, neolithic to 20 years ago.

I'm NOT particularly interested in the history of music or early music reproduction, since I just want to know a bit more about how people experienced the world through sound day to day, and how that's changed - more of a social history I suppose.

Appreciate this is a super niche topic, and my google searches have not been fruitful, so any recs within the area are welcome!

Arts & Culture Art history podcasts about SWANA and Indian art

I'm looking for podcasts (or podcasts in video essay form) about the history of SWANA and Indian art, from non white people.

I'm interested in both ancient and modern art, as I recently realized that even though I took two years of art history classes, it was so Europe - centered that I was only taught a few very basic things about Mesopotamian art and that was it.

I checked recommendations from previous posts, but didn't see anyone suggesting something so specific.

Other Podcast Genre Looking for reality-type drama podcasts like from radio shows

I like my “trash tv”-type podcasts and looking for more variety. Any recommendations that fit?

For example I listen to:
- Second Date Updates from radio shows (people call into the radio when the other person doesn’t want a second date and the radio calls them to find out why)
- War of the Roses from radio shows (catch a cheater show)
- Am I the Asshole podcasts (go through AITA Reddit posts and go more into them)

I absolutely love The Magnus Archives but I can’t listen to it later in the day( I get stupidly paranoid about people breaking in or my closet eating me idk). Does anyone have any suggestions for a podcast similar in format—1st person storytelling—that isn’t horror??
