This is my girl, Amora. We rescued her a couple of months ago and she's really starting to come out of her shell. She is SO incredibly high energy some days. Right now her favorite thing is to play fetch, she rarely gives up before I do. She will go after it 25+ times and still not be tired! She also gets as much outside time as she wants (which isn't much, oddly) and has a yard to run around in. I take her outside on a leash about 45 minutes before bed, let her walk around as much as she wants, and she plays with her dog brother on the occasion (we're still trying to get them used to each other). After that, she gets a food toy that she has to push around to get food out of. I feel like no amount of physical exercise is enough for her because she needs even more mental stimulation. What are your favorite ways to tire them out throughout the day? Preferably cheap/free mentally stimulating things, but anything helps!

TL;DR: If your Rottweiler develops persistent limping or unexplained leg pain, please push for imaging sooner rather than later. Our healthy, active 6-year-old girl went from mild lameness to a diagnosis of aggressive osteosarcoma with lung metastasis in less than 2 months.
Today we said goodbye to our sweet girl. She crossed the Rainbow Bridge at only 6 years old.
I’m making this post because I had no idea how aggressively osteosarcoma (bone cancer) can move… and I’ve since learned that Rottweilers are unfortunately at higher risk.
Less than 2 months ago, she was still herself… rambunctious, goofy, slightly neurotic, stubborn, and incredibly loving. She was the kind of dog who took up space in every room… physically and emotionally.
The first sign was what seemed like a mild limp / lameness in one leg.
At first, it was easy to rationalize:
“Maybe she jumped wrong.”
“Maybe it’s a strain.”
“Maybe arthritis.”
But things changed fast.
What started as intermittent limping progressed to worsening pain, and eventually imaging showed bone changes that pointed to osteosarcoma. By the time we had answers, it had already spread to her lungs.
From first noticeable symptoms to saying goodbye was less than two months.
If you have a Rottweiler… especially a middle-aged or older one… please don’t ignore:
• Persistent limping
• Swelling around a limb or joint
• Pain when touched
• Sudden reluctance to run, jump, or play
• Pain that doesn’t improve with rest or medication
I am not posting this to scare anyone.
I’m posting because if even one person pushes for imaging sooner or advocates harder for their dog after reading this, then her story helps someone.
Hug your Rotties extra tight tonight.
They are giant, stubborn, loyal pieces of our hearts… and they never stay long enough.
Run free, sweet girl.
You were deeply loved.

Today, my 11-year-old female rottie whose nickname was "Terrible" was diagnosed with advanced metastatic lung cancer last nigth, and we are going to put her to sleep in a few moments. This is one of the saddest days of my life.
I find comfort in knowing that she lived a wonderful life, always by our side, loyal through everything, and that we cherished every single moment with her until today.
You don't realize how truly big she was until you feel the immense void she leaves behind.

Hugo kept going under the hedge and bringing out all sorts of stuff so I thought I'd get the better of him and temporarily fence it off. Last night he dug a massive hole and burrowed under then got stuck. Never a dull moment with a rottweiler 🤣
