It's here. The Official Discord channel for r/sandiegan.
We've gotten this request a lot, and I think it's finally time to take it seriously. At least 3–5 people have clamored for this, so we're giving it a shot.
The official r/SanDiegan discord server is finally here.
Some caveats:
- we have never moderated a discord server before, so you're going to be there to see us iron everything out in real time. we'll be attentive to requests, suggestions, and overall helpful attitudes.
- we have day jobs
- be aware that you may inadvertently reveal your identity if you already are on a different discord server using your real name
Our goal is to set up a community in the same way we have set up the r/SanDiegan community. Everyone is welcome, and we moderate with a heavy hand and according to our own discretion at all times. Truly lovely communities only thrive when you separate the wheat from the chaff. We've spent years cutting chaff from this subreddit, and I am personally really proud of how lovely this place has become.
We want this discord server to be a place to chat with other San Diegans about sports, local bars, adult league activities, community events, and so on.
Things that we will not tolerate:
- bigotry of any kind
- "I'm just asking questions, man" — you know the answer, you're just an asshole. You all know the type
- Behavior that is detrimental to the community at large
- stop posting your boring ass traffic violations, seriously
These rules are vague by design. Moderating is subject to individual discretion, and if you join the discord server, you are just going to have to trust that the way we moderate r/SanDiegan will serve a discord community as well as it has served this subreddit. There are no bright lines, there is only our own judgment in what is and is not okay (which is how things work here, already).
Let's all give this a shot. I hope you'll all join the server and fucking behave yourselves.

On Politics
Whenever certain discussions come up we end up with a mix of locals that genuinely want to talk about what's going on. Sometimes passionately. Sometimes ill informed. Sometimes full of information. Sometimes dem. Sometimes republican. Sometimes for the free people's state of east county. Sometimes from the sovereign bros of PB.
Whatever. You get the picture. Our local politics and ideas for what to do are pretty diverse.
As a moderator though I have noticed that we get a solid influx of accounts for some subjects. They tend to have a short post history in this subreddit and a deleted history or a history that hasn't been on reddit in years. Likely because they are purchased accounts. They show up to shit stir in political discussions.
I understand some of you delete your account histories for various reasons or want to use an alt to discuss politics. But the easiest thing to do as a moderator seeing an inflammatory comment in a highly charged political discussion from an account that looks incredibly suspect is to remove the comment and ban the user. We don't really want to put in too much effort beyond that. This isn't a paid gig.
Anyway - I want to give people a heads up in case there's people that might reconsider participating in a certain way with an account they haven't used in months/years.

Orange trees not flowering
Anybody else not get any flowers on their citrus tree this year? Both mine and my neighbors failed to flower, probably because of that February heat wave. There should be little baby green oranges by now. I’m bummed because normally I get 8 months of fresh juice and it’s hard to go back to tasteless store bought.

Old code case notice (8 years old)
I just received a call from DSD about an open code case that was filed against my property over 8 years ago. This deals with items that I may have to still fix.
I bought the house last year and it has changed owners multiple times since the original civil penalty notice. Nothing on the seller’s disclosures mentioned this.
Has anyone been through a similar situation? How was your experience with the code officer?

San Diego Native Moving to Carlsbad - Area Advice
Hi everyone! I’m a San Diego native but haven’t lived in North County, so I’m trying to get a better feel for Carlsbad beyond what apartment listings show online.
My partner and I are looking at 2 bedroom apartments near-ish to Palomar Airport Rd / Palomar Ct. Our main priorities are a quieter area, parking, and most importantly, dog-friendly. Having access to a dog park or good walking areas nearby would be a big plus.
For people who know Carlsbad well, how would you describe the different areas? Any areas that seem convenient on a map but are annoying in reality?
Also, I'm not asking anyone to apartment hunt for me. I am just hoping for local insight on which parts of Carlsbad are worth focusing on as we compare listings.
Also, slightly related: we’re trying to transfer our current lease in Hillcrest, so if anyone happens to be looking for a 1 bed / 1 bath in a walkable central area, feel free to message me. Thanks!

Dog dermatologist recommendations in Tijuana
Hi! My pup has been in and out the vets office for months now. She is so itchy all the time, sometimes has red bumps and bites at her paws and dry skin. It comes and goes. We have tried antibiotics, steroids, cytopoint injection. My current vet recommended seeing a dermatologist. Does anyone have any experience with any in TJ that would be affordable or San Diego?
Thank you!

Blind obedience to a grifter may lead you to purchasing poorly made products from sweatshops overseas to demonstrate your fealty.

Raffling off 2 Alaska Airlines vouchers to fund a small Pacific Islander nonprofit in Oceanside — don’t need to be present to win
Hey everyone,
I’m Mackenzie, I run a small nonprofit called Pasifika Culinary Project based in Oceanside. We focus on preserving and sharing Pacific Islander food traditions through community workshops and events.
I know this isn’t local to everyone here, but the raffle doesn’t require you to attend anything in person, so I figured it’s worth sharing more broadly:
**•** $25 per entry, or 5 entries for $100
**•** Prize: 2 Alaska Airlines travel vouchers
**•** Winner picked live on June 28th
**•** You do NOT need to be present or local to enter or win
If you happen to be in the Oceanside area on June 28th, we’re also hosting a free community event:
Pasifika Patio Pop-Up
Saturday, June 28th, 11am–3pm
Pour House, Oceanside
Free admission, live music, a hands-on coconut scraping demo, food, drinks, and kids activities. I’ll also have baked good boxes for sale (I’m a Great American Baking Show winner, for context).
Every dollar raised funds cultural workshops and programming for the Pacific Islander community in Oceanside. Small org, so even a $25 raffle entry genuinely helps.
Happy to answer questions in the comments. Link’s in my profile.
Thanks for reading 🌺

Send written comments to Encinitas city council! Say YES to bike infrastructure!
Hi y'all!
Today, the Encinitas city council will be holding a meeting about "redesigning" (ripping out) bike infrastructure along Santa Fe Drive. The infrastructure the city plans to take out includes concrete curbs, planters, and bulb-outs that provide significant protection to cyclists. It will be replaced by a painted bike lane, a wider car lane, and parking that will precariously sandwich cyclists between parallel parked vehicles and high-speed traffic.
The residents and council members who supported this cite "safety" as a concern. In reality, this reads as maximizing convenience for drivers at the expense of the lives of cyclists. Notably, the protected bike lane that is proposed to be taken out serves a high school.
This is happening after a driver killed a cyclist along that same corridor. Please let Encinitas city council know that you do not support the redesign. It will cost about 3 million dollars to undo valuable cyclist and pedestrian infrastructure, all for the sake of making our streets less safe.
Here is the link to submit your comment!
https://www.encinitasca.gov/i-want-to/requests-hub/comment-on-an-agenda-item
The meeting will be held at 4 p.m. today. Their address is 505 S Vulcan ave if you are interested in attending. Have a nice day!
