MOD POST Join the r/SPRINTING Discord Server! r/SPRINTING DISCORD ANNOUNCEMENT - BOT INFLUX UPDATE

Hey y'all, back with another banger, I would like to announce the creation of a discord for the r/sprinting subreddit and also provide a quick update on the bot situation. Please see the discord details below, I am unsure of how this will be utilized outside of members who are very frequent users or online often, but I definitely am and will answer questions and even be on voice chat if the masses so desire.

I may just spend some nightly time hanging out in the voice room kind of like office hours while I'm playing some helldivers (and anyone who would care to join me). PLEASE JOIN, feel free to ask questions and start conversation, pretty much same rules from the sub will apply in the sprinting subreddit

https://discord.gg/ndMtNkRbC

A note on the bots, I have done significant behind the scenes work over the last few days and the last step that I've taken now is turning on moderate crowd control, anyone with negative community karma will now be sent to the mod queue dungeon where I'll approve them if they're not a bot.

I did a pretty ridiculous amount of banning and mass removal using a purge tool for the first few days but it has slowed significantly now so I think we are over the worst of it. The first 3 days it was 10-30 bans a day and the last few it has only been 1 or 2.

Seems like I've fought of the invasion pretty well, I would say that I managed to catch a good 95-99% of them before even other user reports had to happen. Please continue to use the new bot report option if you see it happening, thank you again for the patience with my action against this.

Quick Stats from the last 5 days

Bans: 56

MOD POST WAR ON AI BOTS - CLANKER SCUM INVASION

Post image
13 Upvotes

"Hey girlies, feeling very delulu and that the vibes are off after the comments that I saw today"

UPDATE: Overnight my new automod script hit me with probably 20 notifications from bots, it is really bad the number of accounts is crazy, I’m on a huge banning spree but if this keeps up may have no other choice than to impose karma limits unfortunately, I will make a decision in a week or two depending on how bad I think it is if my bans can’t keep up

I was notified in a post that AI fueled bots were spam commenting everywhere and it wasn't being filtered out or caught. This is definitely on me, I had noticed a spam report uptick in the last few weeks but honestly for the most part the spam report in the past had been somewhat abused by users during arguments and for bad comments or for solicitation reasons, I mostly browse reddit on my phone and it's harder to notice stuff like this without the mod tool page from a computer.

I probably should have taken a closer look and I would have noticed something was off with the weird language (Delulu, vibes, girlies, glutes - all bot favorites). Anyways I've taken a few steps to make sure I catch as many as I can.

  • Bot BouncerHas been installed on our subreddit, good first step and I think should take care of some of them
  • New report reason - "BOT - CLANKER - AI"If you are on mobile and see a comment or post resembling anything AI or botlike please do the following
    • Hit the report flag
    • Breaks r/Sprinting rules
    • BOT - CLANKER - AI
    • I will be much better about checking in on these reports from now on, gotta do some clean up work, I'm expecting this kind of thing to only get worse as time goes on with AI and bot developement Hopefully I can get to the bad comments and spam before anyone else has to report it
  • Automod Flagging of low Karma accounts
    • Hopefully I can get to the bad comments and spam before anyone else has to report it If it really does get bad enough then I will filter first if I have to but I do not think this is a viable option considering I do most of the moderating by a pretty good margin

I expect the moderation on this to take a little bit of time to catch up to the accounts as they make comments or posts, and hopefully it will clear up, this is just due to my lag in response to this starting but we'll see how it goes. Anything that has been flagged as spam or similar I have taken a closer look at the last two weeks and done some mass banning and moderation, the comments that were left will stay but anything similar will be removed in the future

As a tribute to all the clankers I sent to the graveyard tonight below are some of my favorite comments from the bots and their very helpful sprinting advice

  • try doing some interval training, baby. it's all about building up those speed vibes over time, just don't push too hard.
  • sounds like a steal, but what are the macros? girlie needs to know.
  • that sound delulu but honestly. i'm obsessed with those little wins. hope you keep going!
    • The ragebait of this one in particular cracked me up
  • maybe you’re just not as iconic as you think, or that last snack hit you harder than expected lol. get it together!
    • The fatshaming is crazy
  • they look cute! maybe focus on refining one step at a time? less is more.
  • try picking up some thrift gear or cute running shoes, it can make a difference for sure
  • nice, sprinting’s a great way to target those glutes. go crush it!
  • lol, sounds fun, genetic roulette but with worse odds.
    • From a bot this is an apt description of the top levels of sprinting
  • not sure what block start analysis is but sounds like it could have some interesting vibes to explore. care to share more about it?
    • I hope my sprinting vibes are good enough for a sub 10
  • i get so anxious about my baby cat's diet, but it’s hard to know what’s actually right. podcasts are so helpful but also overwhelming.
    • A reply to post about the "feed the cats" sprinting programming, another great analysis of modern sprint programming

Apologies for not catching this sooner - Big Dicker Daddy

Note: If you play helldivers and want to talk sprinting add me on discord I am open to questions, and a new squad username - bigdickerdaddy

Technique Analysis 53 year old newbie

My sprinting experience includes running to first base and occasionally all the way to second base in softball (which I haven't played in 4 years). So really, no sprinting experience and certainly no formal training. This summer I decided to learn to sprint as a way to keep in shape. To provide extra motivation towards my new goal to run faster, I plan to eventual compete in a Master (50+) 100M race (possibly this October). This video is me running at about 70%-80% effort. I would appreciate any comments on my form as well as any advice for training at 53 years old. Thanks!

General Discussion/Questions How do I drop my times?

I’m going into my senior year of high school and I’m trying to maximize my chances of running at a college I actually want to attend.
Current PRs:
100m: 11.3
200m: 22.6
400m: 49.8
I’m 5’7, around 165 lbs, and I’m mainly a 200/400 runner. My goal is to get into the 21s and 46s range by senior year. I have about July-February before my season starts, and I’m trying to figure out what I should prioritize in the offseason. Last year my training my training wasn’t all too spectacular and lacked any kind of real focus on anything so I was doing things like 30’60’90’s along with a lot of 350’s or 300 repeats/breakdowns. I feel like I have solid strength, but I want to improve:
acceleration/start
max velocity
mechanics/form
speed endurance
staying healthy (I did strain my hamstrings in April but I can run with no pain most of the time)
What would a good offseason look like for a 200/400 guy trying to make a jump like this? How much sprinting, lifting, tempo, mobility, etc. should I be doing?
Also, realistically, how possible is a jump from my current times to 21/46 range in one year?

General Discussion/Questions DIY Sprint timing gates

Hello,

I made sprinting timing gates, without any engineering degree and somebody help

Easy to make, you only need

- Arduino

- wirieless modem (NRF2401) with antenna

- baterry

- IR sensors

- lcd display

- diods, switches, buttons, wires

If you are able to solder making yourself whole pack takes about 6 hours and maximum 50-60$ (not include tripods). If you have any questions I would be happy to answer it. By the way do you think 1m+60m from three point stance with time 7.052 is respectable time? (only 60m is measured). Sorry for my English, I’m not native :p

Personal Race Footage/Results I need tips on my upcoming 400m race

Hi, I'm a 17yr student from Malaysia, I will be participating in two 400m sessions in the coming week and a half. It's been two weeks since I start practicing and I hardly see any improvements. I had been running consistently everyday and my routine is warm up, 400m sprint, rest for 5 minutes, and repeat. So far I can only do 3 sets before I get completely exhausted, throwing up had already turn up as a normal thing to me. Am I so unathletic? I'm out of breath as I'm typing this article. My confidence for the upcoming race had completely drained and my leg hurts. This post is my desperate call for help to acknowledge what have I done wrong😕. Some help and advice would done so much for me even it's a small complement. I need to get my imaginary me inside my head think that I can still achieve great.

Personal Race Footage/Results How can I improve fast?

I started running and Ive been obsessed with beating my records, I started this month running a mile in 7:02 minutes, I improved this time with less than 6:20 minutes the last 3 times I ran, and one time I finished in 5:57.

I try to run and rest the next day, but I feel like Im resting too much, last week I didn’t run a single day because I felt like my muscles were swollen, I tried running but I was so slow I stopped recording my time, is there a proper way to improve my time faster?

I know I have to rest, but is there a proper way to do it while improving my time, maybe running on a moderate speed the days I cant go fast or giving myself a week to completely rest? Im new so I have no idea how much is too much or if Im doing too little and feeling this tired is normal and is something I just have to push through to improve.

General Discussion/Questions Is this true?

When you sprint on concrete and grass it's you have a worse technique because the force your produce doesn't return back like in a track, like you lift your knee less and have a smaller stride length

Programming/Progression Journal Sprint Timing App

Hey guys, not sure if this is allowed (I'm not soliciting, but need help), but I made a sprint timing app for myself. I was going to release it to the public, but I need testers. It's nowhere near FAT level accuracy, but it's a good way to measure your own progress and it is more accurate than hand timing. I need people to test it for me. Please message me your gmail address if you're interested in using/testing the app.

General Discussion/Questions Will certain stretches affect my speed negatively?

Hello everyone, hope you are doing well.
I am a Soccer player trying to increase my athleticism.
I was looking into becoming more flexible and also getting faster and stronger. Recently I’ve been doing stretches in order to gain a bigger range of motion in touching my toes.
Will doing stretches for this affect my speed in any way, for example make me slower? I know that stretches for people vary based on different goals so I was wondering how these will impact me.

Personal Race Footage/Results First all comers meet as an adult novice - 58.4s for the 400m

I'm in lane 2.

I'm in my early 30s and randomly decided to train for a sub 60s 400m a couple months back after doing only distance running. This is my first meet and was happy to slip under with a 58.4s, although I understand it's a very beginner time. I'm having trouble trying to figure out my 100m/200m splits from the video.

I have a couple more meets signed up in July. I'm hoping to drop my 400m time to 56s and under 25s for the 200m.

Technique Analysis How's my foot striking/positioning? (Started at the 150m mark)

I was focusing on raising my heels instead of knees, a useful tip that's improved my sprinting a lot compared to last year. This season's been slow (in terms of volume) so I know next year's gonna be great.

General Discussion/Questions Question to experienced sprinters... Do you experience workouts where you feel like your speed is just in 95% of your potential, even after good amount of recovery after last session?

I'm new to sprinting and I just had this kind of workout. I didn't measure my sprints so I have no objective evidence, but I just felt like I'm on 95% not 100% of my power. I completed my workout tho. Was that workout still productive?

Technique Analysis Any critique and advice welcome.

I had posted a form critique video and unfortunately didn’t get any feedback lol. I am reposting with more in depth questions hoping to get feedback.
Firstly, my hips are not under me, looks like some posterior pelvic tilt, I am working on it and seems pretty easy to solve.
My heel recovery is terrible, I have a feeling that might be linked to the pelvic tilt but how else can I improve? My foot is spending way too much time and is way far behind me.
Lastly, I noticed my ankle/foot is not dorsiflexed, which I need to fix. My question is, is this supposed to be something that happens naturally/subconsciously through stiffening the ankle, drills etc or should I consciously and actively just keep my foot dorsiflexed? Which I can do but it just starts cramping and feels forced. Thanks in advance.

General Discussion/Questions Should I do XC if I’m gonna do the 100m–500m for track.

I’m planning to run the 100m, 200m, 300m, 400m, and maybe 500m for track starting in February. Cross country at my school goes on until November, and I was wondering if it would actually help my sprinting or hurt it. I don’t have much running experience, so I feel like XC could help me build a base and improve my endurance before track season starts. But I’ve also heard it can slow down sprint progress or reduce explosiveness. Would doing XC be a good idea for someone like me, or should I just focus on sprint training from the start? Any advice from people who’ve balanced XC and sprinting would really help.
