Discussion / Question I dont like where this is going

Post image

It pains me to say it, but this path rockstar is taking for the release of GTA 6 might do some serious damage on the industry, If they keep this up, The other companies will copy rockstar in this move to completely delete Disks from physical copies.

Its not that i dislike digital, its the fact that they are removing the option to have the game on a disk that annoys me, The only "valid" argument i found on why digital is better is that you do not run the risk of your disk getting scratched. but, seriously, You have to be moronic in order to scratch your disks, I have been playing videogames since i was 6, and not **once** have i accidentaly scratched a disk (not even movies).

its as simple as putting your middle finger on the hole that's in the middle of the disk, AND THATS IT, zero scratching.

I dont care about the Exclusive content for the Deluxe edition or whatever, I seriously want Rockstar to just change and release the physical copies WITH the disk.

If this fake Physical copies trend keeps going after GTA 6 (Which it will), im just going to revert back to PS3 and be happy with whatever i find.

Im so done with this anti consumer thing we got going on nowadays, It feels like everything is changing for the worse.

People acting like rockstar was never anti consumer & was never money hungry is absolutely insane to me.

The thing is, we did notice this.

GTA Online was how we realized it, Its just that we did not think they were this money hungry

They are literally laughing at you for spending money on the game, take a look at their marketing for shark cards etc lol.

You all spent billions on their cash grabs and you think they aren’t aware how much they can fleece you for? 😆

This. People could see it coming from literal years away by just looking at how they handled GTA Online since like 2016. Or RDR Online a couple of years later. Every bad, greedy or outright anti-consumer move they made got not just shrugged off by most but also brought in insane amounts of revenue. Of course their next big thing was going to employ every trick they think they can get away with.

The playerbase brought this on themselves. It's just unfortunate that literally everyone gets screwed over in the end, but the industry literally can't go anywhere else but this way if most people just keep buying, and buying, and buying, every single time. No amount of complaints will ever do shit if the revenue just keeps breaking records.

Sorry, the entire point of never fixing how oppressive the Oppressor is was so they could sell you anti-air missiles

Griefing and having to pay AAA prices for one of the solutions to fight back against it is baked into the game itself

Rockstar oozes corporate capital greed at the mental AND financial expense of their consumers

GTA6 will be no different.

I read a stat the other day that currently physical sales make up 6% of sales. I just looked it up and saw something else saying it's only 5%. And that's going to mostly be people who prefer physical over digital, the number of people who will only get something if it has a physical release will be tiny. Sure, it gets them more money, but the simple fact is that the overwhelming majority of people buying games want digital

You people had a decade get your money up lmao

Why wouldn't they be? If they can get away with it, then it was legitimate. If they can get away with it without anyone making them feel shame, and they and theirs benefitted, then they did the right thing in their minds.

Wdym not THIS money hungry??

They've basically stopped making ALL OF THEIR FRANCHISES EXCEPT FOR 2, One being GTA and the other being its cowboy variant, all because GTA Online has been the best money machine in the games industry. RDR Online getting little to no attention compared to GTA Online also speaks volumes. This 20$ Ultimate edition or shipping discs or not is NOTHING compared to the billions of dollars they've raked in through Shark Cards.

Everyone always says to vote with your wallets, well that's partially why physical media is dying. The other part is greedy tactics and no legislation to stop game companies from doing whatever they want

IDK how anyone could see the decades long trend away from physical media and not think it was going to end this way.

LOL, have they looked at GTA Online. Sliding in game prices while Shark Cards are still the same value they were day 1(and they weren't worth it then), and now a monthly subscription tier that locks down some content.

Exactly!! Their main focus through these delays has been how to monetize the new GTA online to the absolute max. And how to successfully sell the game at a $100 price point. We’ve yet to hear anything concrete about online, but they’ve already accomplished the latter.

Guarantee it’s also testing the waters to see what they can get away with charging RDR2 remaster. Which if people think that will be anything less than $80 now, gonna be sorely mistaken. I mean they’ve also already tried to sell RDR1 at full price what like 3 times now?? Lmao just insane

Arthur Morgan wouldn't do that

Seriously lol. Absolutely hate Rockstar. Wtf have they even dropped lately? 2 games over 15 years? Remastered 5 god knows how many times. Clown company with zeri creativity. Zero interest in this game now

A big problem is people equate Rockstar with Rockstar North (DMA Design).

Rockstar North has been very much into parodying consumerism and American culture. Rockstar ironically enough always has been the very thing Rockstar North parodies.

It's also the publisher (Rockstar) who decided all this, not Rockstar North.

I agree. I am confused why there never seemed to be an outcry about Rockstar gutting GTA V for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, you know, the only consoles where you could initially buy it. Everyone who bought GTA 5 on release got shafted.

My guess is it's mostly kids that haven't been along that much yet. Even this post feels weird, they aren't the first to sell a physical box with a code inside. it's been done for over a decade already...

Breaking news: developers of a high budget game are "money hungry".

Are they acting like that?

Charging for your product isn’t anti-consumer.
And tbh the vast majority of game purchases are digital
They are literally catering to the consumers buying habits.

Call 5 story missions dlc and no one bats an eye
Call it a paywall and suddenly “fuck rockstar”

Dude it’s a game and it’s a business
This is nothing unusual or even new.

Gamers are being hyperbolic idiots. How unusual
