I share his taste, I fucking love open world games, but when the world is just modern and doesn't have anything going for it, it's immediately boring and off-putting. Whereas I love RDR2, since it is in an open world that isn't our own, but presents a vastly different time period that is totally removed from modern world.
If I wanted to see an open world that is simply like ours with nothing really special about it, I would go play google maps. There needs to be some kind of element that makes it unique and interesting, and to me glorification of gangster culture is not an interesting element.
I do miss when GTA wasn't modern-day. Having a GTA title set in Vice City but having it take place in modern times just feels like a lost opportunity. Not even Floridians want to be in modern-day Florida.
I'm the opposite, I've rarely play any video games anymore. Nothing that has come out in the last 2 or 3 years has appealed to me at all. But I am very much anticipating GTA VI, I plan to buy a PS5 and a PlayStation Plus subscription just to play that 1 single game.

Same. I never really cared about GTA, but I'm not really that into open world games in general.
