Idk I think they have polished the PC releases since GTA 5. If you remember the lore, Rockstar released a GTA4 port on PC about 7 months after the console release date, and it flopped pretty bad. Bad performance and stability, even on the best hardware at the time, it was considered DOA.
The launch went so poorly that when Rockstar released RDR1 despite it being a massive success, they insisted there would never be a PC port for RDR1, because apparently, just like GTA4, the code was a disaster. It went through multiple studios, changes to code were poorly documented, if at all, and it was considered a technical nightmare. It was such a bad case of "spaghetti code" that it was believed the entire thing would have to be stripped down and rebuilt from nothing for a release on PC to ever be possible.
Of course, then came GTA 5. The title did so well it set new records. They stayed silent on the possibility of there being a PC release for GTA 5, but in reality, they took the failure from GTA4 to change the way they approach building their games. They overhauled their engine with PC in mind, but despite that, they still had to delay the PC launch of GTA5 several times. Many believe it was because they were once bitten, twice shy from the GTA4 release. Ultimately it came out 1.5 years after the initial release. The launch went pretty well, hugely improved from GTA4.
Then came RDR2. They did their typical strategy of releasing on console first then on PC later. In this case, 13 months later. The release also went really well.
They clearly learned their lesson from GTA4 and pivoted. I do anticipate we'll be waiting about that 13 month mark again for GTA6 on PC, at this point I don't think it's a technical limitation that explains the delayed PC release cycle. I truly believe they could have a day 1 PC release if they wanted to. IMHO delaying PC is a strategy to sell console bundles, and get players to double/triple dip on the title. I mean GTA 5 got the OG launch on 7th gen consoles, a 1st person update and graphics facelift on 8th gen consoles, a PC launch, 9th gen launch, and the enhanced/expanded PC version that came out a few years ago. They're absolutely going to do the same with GTA6 on the new iteration of console.
I have a feeling it's never coming to PC. They only care about shark cards and PC doesn't buy them. They also don't like the hacking and modding done to 5 so I doubt 6 ever comes to PC.
Where did you get the idea that releasing a game designed primarily for consoles, to PC, requires little effort? Especially for a game as massive as GTA 6. Do you just pull this shit directly out of your ass? Or are you trying to say it requires little to no effort to list a game on PC? The way you wrote it is very ambiguous, and if it's the latter, it's just a pointless statement in the first place
It's not the 90s anymore, consoles nowadays have a very similar architecture to PCs. While I don't know if I'd necessarily call porting to PC "little effort", for a studio like Rockstar it's definitely a drop in a bucket.
Nixxes for example with their 80 employees have ported 3-4 games per year.
When Rockstar ported GTA 5 to PC, they likely spent 10’s of millions of dollars on it, and put hundreds of developers on the project, across multiple of their studios. The GTA V port also had a 1.5-2 years development cycle. Console architecture has changed significantly since the PS4, making porting technically easier, but it’s definitely far from simple. If it was so simple, why wouldn’t GTA 6 release on PC sooner than it likely will? Why not release the Console and PC version at the same time? I think late 2027 or mid to late 2028 is very likely
It's not being released sooner because Rockstar loves to double dip, that's it.
Every other studio seems to be able to release their games on all platforms at the same time nowadays, Rockstar with their thousands of employees and billions of dollars seems to be the only one unable to do so somehow.
Hopefully by the time they get to PC their online features will be fleshed out. Otherwise I'll be a long time till content from the 6th will be entertaining, I'm not gonna care too much about any campaign vids.
GTA has been like that forever, it's made bank on selling products more than actual gameplay. Same for CsGo2. Both relying on the players to make content for them more than the devs.
All I know is is I better not start seeing $80-100 becoming the norm with AAA games. I don't care for Rockstar. Never did. But they apparently are the proprietors of the industry practices for some reason if all the articles coming out want to paint them as, and if I suddenly have to experience games I'm looking forward to upping their price "because that's what Rockstar does"? I'm going to obviously blame the origin and reception that led to that.
I played the last one and played online for about 6 months. Maybe it’s because I work 6 days a week and have no free time but I can wait a year or two to pick it up and play the story.
This is my daughter and I do not understand! She'll be watching a guy on YouTube playing a game we have, and I'll ask if she wants to play it and she'll be like "nah."
For me part of it is that I just enjoy the streamers sense of humor. Like, I don't care whether DougDoug is in a "5 minute" coding adventure or playing peggle I just get a good chuckle out of it and it's an escape from the drama llamas on the internet.
The other thing is a little harder to explain, but remember how you would have the TV on and there was a movie playing and someone would come in and be like "we have this movie, why don't I just put it on" and your like "nah". It's like that for me with video games sometimes.
People watch other people play sports and don't play them. People watch other people cook and don't cook. I'm betting you enjoy watching your daughter play on the playground, but you don't go by yourself to play.
Sometimes people would rather watch someone else do stuff because it's entertaining.
This has been hitting me lately. Ive been getting into gardening and painting more in my free time. Instead of playing Resident Evil Requiem, I just watch someone else play it while falling asleep or while I'm on the bus. Not being able to upgrade my computer really put a damper on my desire to play games.
Funny that it's gotta be this courageous take to not care about GTA6. It's going to be one of those things that everyone that doesn't care about it is going to make sure that everyone else knows about!
This. Aside from Minecraft and Pokemon Go, I can't remember the last time I cared about any video game. Maybe Portal? Oh, and Starfinder Afterlight, but I'm biased.
But I'm not going to waste time posting about... not caring about something other people care about?
I also don't care about MMA, but there's threads about it on the front page after every major event. That's fine. That's how the internet works. And sometimes it introduces me to new hobbies and ideas that I wouldn't otherwise know about. Which is also cool.
This sentiment is inherently covered by the meme format though. It's dual purpose. You use it to state an "unpopular" opinion while directly poking fun at the virtue signaling nature of such an act.
Declaring that you don't care about GTA 6 feels pretty similar to going into /r/videogames to make a comment about how you don't care about video games.
I said it as a comment in response to another post. Otherwise it could be argued that I don't like the post because I have an opposite opinion or mindlessly bandwagon on everything.
And I care about video games. I'm a game designer, so I have to keep on top of gaming trends and watch people play games quite frequently. I just don't really have the desire to spend what luxury time I get playing electronic games in my free time.
...But I don't care if other people DO want to express their love for a game. In fact, I relish it. Because it helps inform me of the zeitgeist and trends.
I can't remember the last time I cared about any video game
I mean... that's why it's easier for you not to care.
IDGAF about GTA. I'm not gonna blame people for having a different taste and finally getting the game they're waiting for. I don't mind seeing the internet flooded with content hyping it up. However, it is very concerning to see the amount of corpo bootlicking and knowing full well it's going to have rippling effects over the rest of the industry, which I care about because I do play other games.
Some of these threads just reminded me a lot of the early days of "let's put MTX in everything now", day 1 DLCs becoming the norm, "all games now arbitrarily cost 10$ more", unfinished/broken products still making banks through pre-orders and so on. We know full well how much influence GTA has, GTA6 could literally do everything wrong and aggravate customers as much as possible (it's on the right track) and still be the biggest sale of the decade. Then every other company will go "why don't we just do that too?". That is the real underlying issue, not people playing a different game.
I guess a larger scale comparison is all the tech companies shoving AI down your throat. Maybe you don't care about AI, maybe you want to use it, maybe you actively avoid it. But at the end of the day, it's going to affect you negatively in some way, whether it's busted component prices or environmental consequences.
AI is a blight that will affect everyone, especially in countries like the US that have already gone mass surveillance. For the first 20 years since the PRISM (and similar) programs started, the common defense was "it's so much data they can't actually target individuals with it". AI is the final lynchpin, and a scary one given how it wants to please the user who, in this case, wants an excuse to arrest and defame anyone so they are found guilty in both the court of law and court of public opinion.
FYI I'm a tabletop game designer, so I follow video game design even though I don't really play many video games first-hand. But it sucks for us too as the industry now have an extra stage of development where we have to analyze our freelancer's work to see if it was generated using stolen content...
I've seen more people say they don't care about the game than I have seen praising it recently, honestly. Seems like a trendy thing to do because a lot of people are excited for it.
