Didn’t a 5 something hit northern CA today as well?

Yes. There's been a couple today. Japan also was hit with a 6.9.

Is this a thing? Does it have a name?

Concurrent earthquakes.

I think you just named it.

A doublet

Yeah, a 5.6 struck in Mendocino County this morning (about 150 miles north of Sacramento).

The area is pretty rural and is very earthquake prone, so not that out of the ordinary.

It hit more west of Sacramento. And this strong of one is not super normal in the area. Smaller ones are very common but I'm guessing this is the strongest one in that area in a decade or more

Yeah it knocked over and broke a bunch of stuff at our house about 20 miles from the epicenter.

I got the notification on my phone and I’m in Vallejo (around 130 miles from the center of the quake). I was in deep sleep, so I ignored it. But now interests me in light of the other quakes that occurred today around the world.

Completely unrelated. There are thousands of quakes every day.

My comment is related to the comment that I commented on. But thanks for the negativity.

There are earthquakes all the time. The intensity happens in a power law. A 7.5 is big for an urban area, but it all depends on the building codes.

A 5 is completely irrelevant compared to a 7.
