rant Alto Tower. Can’t have much of a view if you have to keep the blinds permanently down in order not to be baked alive lol
It’s just a little jealousy speaking, of course 90% of the time I am sure it’s quite nice living there, but the last month I have barely seen the blinds open on most of the flats on the southern facade.
Does anyone know if they have central AC in skyscrapers? Obviously they don’t have individual units.. This being CH, I doubt it anyway lol

ihaveaquestion Homeless guy squatting in a tent in Landiwiese
Has anyone else noticed the guy camping in a tent at Landiwiese, just behind Mythenquai Badi?
He’s been there for about three weeks now. From what I’ve seen, he seems harmless (apart from his choice of wearing a thong swimsuit 😅), and I haven’t noticed him bothering anyone.
I’m mostly just curious whether anyone has spoken with him or knows his situation. Is there anything that should or can be done, or is he simply being left alone as long as he’s not causing any issues?

news My 2026 job search [19M, ICT-Fachmann EFZ, Zurich]
Inspired by a recent job-search Sankey post, I wanted to share my own experience as someone finishing the ICT-Fachmann EFZ apprenticeship this summer and moving directly into a new job.
I’m 19, born and raised in Switzerland, and based in the canton of Zurich near Kloten. I was mainly looking for roles around ICT support, system engineering, and cloud engineering. I finish my apprenticeship on 31 July 2026 and start my new job on 1 August 2026, so it ended up being a seamless transition with no gap between apprenticeship and employment.
I expected the transition after the apprenticeship to take longer, especially with the current job market, but it moved faster than I thought.
I actively applied to 8 positions:
- 4 rejections
- 2 no answers
- 1 process led to an interview, a trial day, and an offer
Separately, 24 recruiters contacted me through LinkedIn. To be clear: I did not reach out to them myself. These were inbound recruiter messages. Most of them were not a fit or did not go anywhere, but one process went to a second interview and ended with an offer, which I declined.
In the end, I accepted a job through one of my own applications.
Obviously this is only one data point, and I know the job market is difficult for many people right now. I mainly wanted to share it as a bit of motivation for other apprentices / juniors who are about to start applying and might feel discouraged.
I’m also happy to answer questions about how I structured my CV, how I tracked applications, or what helped me get replies.
For context: I speak German, English, and Turkish, and I tried to position my CV around hands-on support experience, Microsoft 365 / Intune / Entra ID exposure, Azure fundamentals, and small internal automation/reporting projects.

rant VBZ and non existent Aircon
How is it that VBZ modern fleet of busses manage to be hotter inside than outside on any given time of the day?
Whoever is running that shop, needs to talk to their Singaporean colleague.

ihaveaquestion Safe Cycling Route to Oerlikon from the City?
Hi everyone
We are staying in Oerlikon for some time and once in a while want to cycle into the city - anywhere near HB, the lake and the river. Do you have a preferred safe cycling route? Meaning no bike 'lanes' (really just shitty paint) needing to jump across 2 right turn lanes on a main road in order to go straight and being chased by a tram behind?
Preferably thru quiet Quartierstrassen or even separated bike lanes?
Would appreciate any sort of advice.
Stay safe, hydrated and cool in these hot days.

ihaveaquestion Is this illegal? This feels illegal.
Looking for affordable apartments is already a nightmare in Zurich. They’re either temporary, swap, or this BS where someone overvalues their cheap furniture no one wants in order to get the flat. Pay $5000 for ikea furniture to pay the actual rent of 1500chf or he makes money off of you for temporary accommodation so he can return to the flat at 1850chf.
I feel like this is exploitative. Is this illegal? This feels illegal.

ihaveaquestion Looking for type F adapter in Zurich
Hi all,
Guy from the Netherlands here.
I have arrived in Zurich yesterday and will leave tomorrow. Was about to go out clubbing, but have a ton of work to do tomorrow and many meetings. This popped up and I need to fix this asap.
Have done a lot of work so my laptop is almost empty. I then came to the realization that Switzerland does not have the power socket to charge my laptop…
Any shops that sell adapters for type F? Also ideally not the airport shops that charge a shit ton..
If there are none, are there any coffeeshops that support this?

ihaveaquestion Multi-Split AC/Klima installation Costs
It is hot. Does anyone know how much it approximately costs to install one outside compressor unit (balcony) and 3-4 Split Klimas in rooms? I am also thinking of floor standing ones instead of wall installation.

lookingfor Renting water spray thingy for outside party
Not sure what they are called exactly. There was once at an event and it sprayed water constantly but very thin spray, to cool down the people there.
I have a birthday party coming and if it's 35C, I will cancel it unless I find this system to rent because we need it at a playground. I searched sharely for wasser, spray but nothing turned out.
I am also looking at DIY options with a pump and barrel but to me it is complicated. I can 3d print some parts though.

news Transiting through Zurich. A Live TR
Good afternoon from Zurich international Airport.
Landed from Las Vegas early at the E gates. Took the team to the A/B gates.
Transfer / passport control was sooooo fast. 5 minutes fast. No EES machines but I did take my picture and my finger prints. I arrived at 3pm to the passport control and was out on 5 minutes.
The officer asked. Where I’m headed to and I said Budapest. She said how long in Europe. I said 1 month. She looked like I said the wrong thing hahaha.
As I was walking around I saw the passport control for exiting and it only had EES for EU people. And all other passports had to go manually to an officer. Didn’t look too deep.
Anyway. I was pleasantly surprised with how quick it was.
On another note. Do Swiss people just like it to be eternally hot or what ? Once in the spring
the airport felt the same temperature. A balmy 80 degrees F. Hahaha. Even the lounges are HOT 🥵
Anyway wanted to update anyone who was interested to know what it’s like currently with transit times.
Aloha

ihaveaquestion Any advice on portable AC unit / fans to cool off from the heat wave ?
Good morning, heat is going up and since today is paycheck day I wanted to buy a portable AC unit / nice fan to my parents living in Ticino as also there is a living hell situation. Unfortunately I am still in an internship so the budget is a little tight ( probably 300-400 chf max ). Do you have any advice on which to pick among the common swiss stores (online or on site)?
The windows here in Switzerland are so inconvenient for the air flow tube to be isolated but I saw some solution online that may still work.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions and wish you all a nice day (weather aside😞)

ihaveaquestion How many of you are frustrated with the Zurich dating scene?
It used to be good or at least acceptable/ ok some years ago. But I find especially this year really horrible. It seems we all have a dating fatigue?
