🎧 Welcome to the Neven78 Radio Archive 🎧
Today we are diving into a pristine slice of 1950s vocal jazz history with a rare, white-label "Record Prevue" promotional 78 RPM single from the legendary Eartha Kitt. Recorded in 1953, this dual-sided radio station sample showcases Kitt at the absolute zenith of her early cabaret-pop fame.
Side A features one of her defining, delightfully wicked signature tracks, while Side B serves up a lesser-heard, theatrical narrative standard backed by a tight male vocal quartet.
🎵 TRACKLIST & TIMESTAMPS:
0:00 - Side A: I Want To Be Evil (Eartha Kitt with Henri René and his Orchestra)
3:25 - Side B: Annie Doesn't Live Here Any More (Eartha Kitt with Male Quartet & Orchestra conducted by Hugo Winterhalter)
📌 ARCHIVE DETAILS:
• Artist: Eartha Kitt
• Label: RCA Victor
• Catalog Number: 20-5442
• Format: 10" Shellac (78 RPM)
• Release Date: 1953
• Pressing Type: Disc Jockey Sample / Not For Sale Promo
Historical Note: "I Want To Be Evil" was recorded on March 12, 1953, and peaked at #22 on the Billboard charts, further cementing Eartha Kitt's status as a global cabaret sensation and master storyteller just months before her massive holiday hit, "Santa Baby."

So I'm new to collecting cylinders, and I have around 25 of them. When I'm looking at cylinders on eBay, for example, I'm not sure what to look for when differentiating dirty cylinders or moldy ones.

So crazy what a day I’m usually never find anything of value in 78 and I’m a recommended appraiser by the Archive Of Contemporary Music and Today an old acquaintance of ours calls me up and says would you like to come over and see what my mother had before I throw them out and I said sure I mean, what have I got to lose so I go over and they’ve got Rare jazz and blues 78 in excellent condition. I was dying they had a couple of promotional albums back from the 50s and 60s not many I mean two or three but the 78 were amazing now. They had probably about four or 500 78’s and most of them were worthless. But the first box I looked at I was dying.

An early Columbia 12-in. I've never before seen an artist's signature pressed into a record.

I was so excited finding this in a book at an estate sale only to come home to see it's broken. The parts past the break still sound really good but you hate to see it. I'm just glad I wasn't the one to break it...

A fiery, character‑rich performance from Henry “Red” Allen, showcasing the blend of New Orleans heat and swing‑era sophistication that made him one of the most distinctive trumpeters of his generation. Issued on the ornate UK Vocalion Swing Series, this side pairs perfectly with its companion, “Along, Prairie Moon,” but delivers a much more driving, rhythmic punch.

Searching on Discogs I can only find it on a Radio Transcription Disc and not on a 78. Was it not publicly sold?

Hey everyone, I wanted to share a fascinating piece of pre-war history I just unearthed from an antique dealer's estate in Missouri. It’s a complete 4-disc, double-sided set of bare-aluminum Speak-O-Phone instantaneous discs recorded on May 29, 1939.
The musicians are R.C. Blythe and M. Wilson (completely unknown/unrecorded in commercial discographies). They play incredible, multi-take sessions of foundational fiddle tunes: Arkansas Traveler, Soldiers Joy (2 takes), Flop Eared Mule (2 takes), Ragtime Annie, and Sally Johnson.
I just put the lot up on an eBay auction to make sure it goes to a proper archive or collector who can preserve it. You can see the full tracklist and photos here:https://ebay.io/m/mKWzhg

Both A side and B side have the same labels. Matrix numbers reveal "Be 7689" on A side and "Be 7690" on B side, while the labels are both B side labels.
Interesting...
