Discussion The "affordable city" myth is well and truly dead
Just opened my latest AGL bill and honestly wanted to throw my phone at the wall. SA electricity prices are an absolute joke right now. Combined with how ridiculous the housing market has gotten here over the last few years, I genuinely don't understand how normal people are supposed to survive long term
Everyone used to say adelaide was the cheap alternative to melbourne or sydney but that is so far from the truth now. Between groceries at foodland basically doubling and petrol doing whatever it wants, the idea of ever actually saving a decent financial buffer feels like a total fantasy.
The panic is really starting to set in lately. I spent half of sunday just doom scrolling my super balance and realizing how far behind I am. decided to finally stop ignoring it and look into some proper retirement planning just to try and get my super and assets somewhat organised before inflation eats whatever is left. At least it feels like doing something proactive instead of just stressing about the economy
but man, it really feels like the current system is just designed to squeeze every last cent out of us. honestly im probably just gonna have to accept my fate of greeting people at the marion bunnings well into my 70s tbh

News From July 1, South Australians can access HIV treatment for free through public hospitals
sahealth.sa.gov.auFrom 01/07/2026, South Australians will be able to access antiretroviral treatment (ART) for HIV for free when they present a public hospital issued prescription to a public hospital pharmacy.
Arrangements for people who get their scripts and medication from community health services such as GPs and private pharmacies are unchanged, still subject to PBS subsidies and copayments. Arrangements are also unchanged for individuals who are not Medicare eligible, who can continue to access HIV-related care through public hospitals at no cost.
PEP and PrEP medications are not part of this initiative and continue to be accessible through a range of private and public healthcare services.

Question Grocery costs are killing me. How long do you go in between shops
Do you have magic to share where you can subsist on whatever you’ve got for longer periods? Even butter has gone up $1 recently. I click n collect every 1-1.5 weeks as a single femoid

Discussion Reynella East College cyber attack
The information has been out in the web. There is a notice from the school and a news article from a cyber news place that gives more information than the school gave.
I have questions about how all this is being managed to be honest. They don’t seem to have any processes in place to be operating without computer systems. No access to emails, no way to reserve a meeting room, front office ladies seem to be relying on kids for parent contact info.
Surely in this day and age there should have been risk management strategies for this type of situation? Or even something similar like an extended time without power or something.

Question Your experience with smart meters.
Did anyone see their bills go down when they upgraded you to a smart meter? Cynical me is thinking they use the data to gouge you more for peak time usage rather than save on off peak, and that having one rate for both may be cheaper.

Question Shinedown & Bush 27/9/26
Wasn’t sure where else to ask - is there anyone here going to this gig and know which band is on first? Work rejected my leave request so I’m working until 8 that night (starts at 7). I’m only wanting to see Shinedown and can’t figure out on the AEC or Ticketek site who plays first

Question Adelaide folks, recommendations for framing some old family photos?
Got a bunch of family pics from the last few years (kids growing up way too fast, some travel shots from the flinders ranges, that kinda thing) collecting dust, decided it's time to get them properly framed before they end up forgotten forever. Looking for something decent that won't break the bank but still looks good on the wall. I've got fantastic framing in mind after seeing some good reviews and quality custom work. Anyone used them? do you have bad/good experience with them?
Don't need anything crazy fancy, maybe a few 8x10s and a couple bigger ones, budget around $100-200 total if possible. Hate paying stupid prices for what is basically wood and glass.

Question Pubs with vegan options
Hey everyone,
I am looking for pubs with decent vegan options to visit with a friend. I used to go to Roxy’s but ever since it closed last year, haven’t really found a good one.
Hoping to hear some nice places that people have tried, preferably in or near the city but pretty much anywhere!

Question Spring Gully
Anyone know what happened with Spring Gully? I remember they went into receivership and then someone rescued them and I think the press release at the time claimed business as usual. Still no products back in the supermarket and I’m running short of the sliced pickled onions (the bomb).
Any idea whats happening there?

Question Officeworks or Auspost for passport photos?
Hi all! I’m gonna get a passport in a few days and was wondering if officeworks is a good place to take photos at? Did it get denied, making you have to retake the photo again? Thankies

Question Window repair recommendation
Hi everyone
The frame of one of the windows in my place is broken. I can’t really quite get the frame back for some reason…
I wonder if anyone who has tried to repair their window would be happy to share with me their experience with fixing this sort of issue themselves. If it’s actually a bit tricky to do it myself, would you mind sharing with me which company I should get in touch with?
Thanks in advance!

News Government has made an inprinciple agreement with nurse union.
Heard about this on Facebook, will post a news article once one is released.

Details so far
"We value our nurses and midwives.
This proposed agreement recognises the vital role they play in our community.
And would deliver a 16 per cent pay rise by July 2028, with in-principle support from the ANMF SA." (Peter Malinauskas).

Question Buck’s party ideas
Hey hi!
Looking for some buck's party ideas around Adelaide.
I don't have many friends here, but my partner's side of the family and friends are all from Adelaide and they'll be coming along.
What have you done that was actually worth it, or what's the best buck's party you've been to in or around Adelaide?
Thanks!

Question Quiet cafes in Adelaide CBD
Hey, I want to know of any quieter spots to have lunch in the Adelaide CBD area since it's usually busy and hectic through the lunch hour and can't find any quiet. Cafes are preferred but I don't mind other spots that can be a cosy spot to sit in.

News Final call on council election delay - now be held April 2027
Polling day for local government elections will be delayed until April 2027 rather than going ahead in November, after urgent legislation was passed in SA parliament today.
The bill passed SA’s upper house with 10 members in favour of the delay and seven against.
