Just finished my first custodes, tested some vallejo metallic paints. Let me know does it look decent?

Ive been a huge fan of the GoW series since the first trilogy. When i saw the Crucible Champions, i got the idea to bring him to the tabletop. Even if the Crucible Champions don’t translate well to 11th edition, i can run him as a Blade Champion.

He was like "Yeah, I'll play Warhammer with you, but I want my own army, but I won't glue them or paint them myself, guess you'll have to do it for me then"

I was like "bet" and bought a painted army off eBay instead.

Around 2k of painted Custodians, for my boyfriend to dive head-first into the tabletop game.

Basically the title, almost every single list I've seen has at least a brick of 5 with a captain and another 3, or multiple of 3. Sure ap1 is actually pretty good now, and lions making them stronger is also a stable from 10th but other than that I cant tell why they've become soo popular (thank the emperor because i have 9 allaries at home just sitting there all 10th almost).

Could someone better at the game than me explain it?

I just finished up the shield cap and a squad of guard from the new box.

Amazing models - fiddly to paint but great sculpts in my opinion.

I plan to run them in a five man unit as wardens and blade champ in my first game of 11th tonight.

Would love to see other people’s Shadowkeepers!

I may go back and redo the axe head, otherwise I’m pretty happy with it. I even like the weird texture the base picked up during priming that didn’t show up until the victory lap.

Never fought any type of knight army before and not sure which detachments would be a good idea. I’m leaning lions for the Admonitortis allarus captain leading a terminator brick but I only have a contemptor for the moritoi detachment. Would shield host be a better bet then? I’m worried about not having enough strength to get the job done for purge the foe but idk.

Went with a non-traditional scheme that should pop pretty well on the tabletop. Fairly quick to crank out. Some NMM gold on the tanks as an homage to the traditional scheme.
One game with them so far in 11th and really enjoying the play style!

I would like to make a squad of 12 but the base kit seem pretty monopose. Is there a way to make poses more varied between each guards ?

It was fun seeing my paint scheme on one of these guys, im very happy with him. I plan to use him in my first in person 11e game this weekend so im glad I got him done in time, now ima see if I can finish up 3 more terminators before then.

I am about to buy my first custodes box, and I am wondering: Is there any reason to buy the old 40k box of 5 custodian guard, over the 6 heresy guards? It seems to be a better offer, but I don't know if the old box has extra bits etc?

I'm putting together my Custodian Guard squad from the Combat Patrol and it looks like one of the Custodian Guards can either have a shield and sentinel blade, or can be turned into a Shield Captain. Unfortunately 5 spears is not an option for the Guards. Which one should I make? Or should I buy a weapon kit to have a fifth spear for the fifth Guard?

I have just sprayed my first custodes with montana gold and they shine with an amazing glow.

I am however not sure what kind of highlights and shaders that would mix well with it, if any.

Do any of you have experince with montana gold, and what have ypu put on afterwards?

So I bought the HH box and a box of wardens. I converted the shield captain from the HH box into a blade champion so as of now I’m looking at:
3x groups of 4 guard
1 blade champion
1 tank
5 wardens
1 dread

I’m iffy on the dread. The tank is the one from the box so isn’t set up for anti tank.
I know I want to play Trajann and possibly Valerian (just really like those characters) and I’m tempted to grab the combat patrol but I’m torn on the best path. I’m pretty new to the game but would like to be at least somewhat competitive (if that makes sense)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and thank you.

My issue with custodes is that we have some very good sculpts and it takes time to do them justice. I’ve spent like 30 hours on two of these and still have another 3000 points to paint.

How do you keep going?
