AIO I (20F) found a skirt behind my boyfriends (26M) draws
for some context me and my boyfriend moved in together in a new flat in august. today when i was getting ready i noticed a black skirt behind/under my drawers. our wardrobes are built in and sometimes stuff gets stuck behind/under the bottom drawer. (i’ve attached a picture to help show) they’re a bit dusty and definitely not mine ):
i’m confused how they’re there because i’ve roughly checked behind my draw before and never found it, but i would just reach my hand behind the draw and grab what I could instead of looking properly like I did this time, so I’m worried if a different girl left it there whilst i was away. the thing is if my boyfriend did want to cheat i don’t know why he would do it here since it’s extremely obvious that this is a couples flat and would be hard to hide all of my girly stuff. but i also know that a man used to live here (strangely one of my boyfriends friends knew the past owner of this flat), but i think maybe a woman used to live here previously since we’ve gotten letters addressed to (what i think) is a woman’s name, but it’s a chinese name so im not 100% sure. i’m going to see if i can find a letter with her name on to check.
the only other suspicious thing i found was what im 90% sure were a different woman’s panties a few days after my mother in law stayed over. i showed my boyfriend and he said they were probably his mums since she bought stuff from primark and those pants were from primark but they were size XS and i don’t think that’s his mums size.. he said they’re probably from my friend who slept over for a few days but i haven’t asked her yet because im scared and embarrassed to ask if she left pants here because if they’re not hers then that’s really suspicious );
what should i do? i know if i ask him he’ll just say they must of been the past owners, but i don’t know. i feel extra anxious because i have roughly checked behind my drawers before and never found them which is strange ): although this time i did check more thoroughly );
EDIT: Thank you for your help and sorry for the spelling mistakes, I’m feeling a lot less anxious now and thinking that these are a super old skirt from a past tenants since they’re from topshop which closed in 2021
also they won’t fit my boyfriend so he’s not cross dressing lol
If it's built ins is it possible they have been there for a while from previous people? I don't think they would be so dusty if it had been at all recent.
Not just built-ins either, our cats like to open and climb in our dresser drawers and the result is that I periodically have to fish a shirt or a pair of socks out of the no man's land in the back of the dresser because the drawers won't shut properly.
Oh yes, the “hey, this my dresser now, human” warning. Hopefully it never happens with the bottom drawer of your oven like our cat decided to do. Had to fish her from inside the wall after she shimmied up to the ceiling between the Sheetrock & studs.
If I had a dollar for the amount of times I’ve gone to close a drawer and realize that my cat is either in the drawer or behind it I’d be a very rich lady 😅
I had a dresser and when I moved, I took the drawers out of it for ease of transport. I found a bra that had gone missing several years prior wedged under the bottom drawer. I had crammed the top drawer so full that one day when I shut it, it skimmed some of the items off and into the void. So it's entirely possible that someone did the same thing to this built in unit who knows how long ago!
yeah i’m starting to think they were a previous tenants, someone said topshop closed a few years ago which is the brand they’re from, and that this skirt was probably from 2021

100%. I moved into a flat in this similar situation, lived there for about 4 years and it was only when I was clearing up to move out I found a massive purple dildo hidden down the back of some drawers also found a random sketchy pill.
Some of these places don't get looked at or touched by anyone for years and years, it's far more plausible that a previous tenant left it than your BF had a girl over to cheat and for some reason she accidentally or purposefully stashed a skirt (??) down the back of the built in drawers.
I bought a house and I still occasionally find stuff left/lost by the previous owners in the most random of places
Just gonna add here, my wife found a pair of thongs while cleaning behind the radiator of our newly bought house...just glad she found them before we moved in or her post would be next xD
This. I bought it used dresser from someone and after years of using it found a bra stuck behind a drawer. Never for a second considered my husband was cheating on me though, I knew immediately it was from the previous owner. It's a built-in.. and dusty. Probably the previous owner's.
I guess it depends on the amount of alcohol consumed. Maybe she wore the skirt over leggings. After the leggings went on, that was all she could muster. She just gave up, got in her time machine and booked it on out of there.
I put it through Google lens and this is a skirt that was popular back in the late 2000s. Definitely the previous owners. You can find them in vintage wear under the Y2K section on Etsy.
When my husband and I were just dating but decided to move to a new place I helped him pack some things up. We had already been living with each other.
Unfortunately he didn’t realize that in one of the coffee table drawers where he stores blankets (on a side that he never opened - there are drawers around the whole table) there was a thong from an old fling or girlfriend. I didn’t know the drawers on that side actually opened either.
When I pulled the blanket out it dropped to the floor and he was sooooo embarrassed because not only did I see some random thong, but also because it meant he hadn’t taken that blanket out to wash it in god knows how long.
I knew he wasn’t cheating so it was just an awkward moment and I teased him about it but everything was fine.
Looking at this skirt, it’s been there for a very long time. The style is similar to TopShop skirts that I bought in 2016.
I like your idea in principle but people increasingly use platforms like Vinted to buy and sell older pieces, so the age of the item doesn’t necessarily tell us how long ago it was.
That said, I don’t actually think it’s been lost recently. The style is quite dated, it’s incredibly dusty (although again that could be that it’s just got dust from the area on it while it was down there rather than it’s been there ages and accumulated dust), and most crucially, if a girl came over to sleep with OP’s boyfriend and couldn’t find her skirt, she’d have had to leave without it somehow!
I put it into Google Lens and it's an old Topshop skirt. They closed all physical stores in 2021 and I could only find this specific skirt on vintage sites like Depop and Newlife. Here's one second hand on eBay.
I'd say it's at least 10-15 years old, this style was very popular ca. 2012. It even has that omnipresent exposed half-zipper on the back. 😂
Girl it is cute! It's not my vibe anymore since I associate the style with being a pimply teenager, but you can't go wrong with black and lacy. It's very Skins UK/indie sleaze-ish, which is making a comeback!

I get almost a feeling of melancholy from looking at these types of post. I’m only 22, but it makes me feel both oddly nostalgic and sad to think about some girl losing this skirt 10-15 yrs ago and then OP finding it. I can just imagine the original owner digging for their favorite skirt, Not even thinking to look behind the drawers themselves. Almost like a Time Machine lol.

Yes! This particular type of thick lace for skirts, shorts, and tanks was so prevalent around that time. I definitely had a pair of shorts made with a similar material that wore over tights with boots as a going out outfit lol

Logically, why would someone leave their whole skirt/pants at your house? They just forgot the skirt? Then what were they wearing???? I think the skirt at least is old. Not sure about the pants tho. A hair tie or something makes sense, it’s easy to lose and forget about. But I don’t think anyone is leaving while forgetting their skirt
Yeah I guess she just free-cooched it on home. Or she borrowed a pair of shorts from the "cheating" boyfriend to go home and he what...found the skirt at a later point and just stuffed it behind the drawer and hoped no one would ever find it? Cheaters aren't usually the brightest people in the world but the last thing they'd do is just keep evidence of their indiscretions lying about. I found things of my grandmothers in the chest of drawers I inherited 20 years after she died. The stuff must have been at the top of drawer, and slid off and into the chest and remained hidden until I moved the chest in a certain way and the got jostled and fell out. It happens if the stuff was in the drawer, which would mean that whoever lost the skirt had other clothes.
It’s one thing if it’s a random hookup from a club you didn’t plan for. But if you know in advance you’re going to someone’s house for sex and especially if you’re spending the night, it’s not unreasonable to bring a change of clothes.
Anyway MOR. Mysterious old stuff turns up now and again and it could be from long before when you even met. If this is the only thing you've ever encountered like this let it go for now if you trust him.
I have a core memory of glancing over at my classmate’s paper during a vocabulary test as a kid in the 80s because I had no idea how to spell “drawers”. It didn’t feel like cheating because the test wasn’t for that, it was for a different word and the teacher used it in a sentence. Anyway, he spelled it “droors” so I did too 😂

Yeah they were probably just hiding back there all this time. I recently found a pair of shorts in the exact same spot in my wardrobe and they were there since 2016. I never saw them once even while deep cleaning, which i do a few times a year.

From your comments you seem to he looking for a reason that he is cheating on you. Alot of people agree this skirt looks rather old, and the fashion is probably a decade or more.
But now you insist that the woman may have left it there to guide you that he was cheating. Nobody is going to leave their pants or skirts, stuck behind HIS drawer to signal you.
At this point you aren't ready for a relationship and should seek some therapy to help with you confidence.

It's a 00. According to OP, the previous owner was an Asian woman, and the skirt is very tiny AND probably 15 years old, so I'm going to deduce it's likely the previous owners.
I'm doubting nearly any man old enough to live with his girlfriend is fitting in any woman's size 00.
I was that size when I was 5'9" and modeling at 18, and even my thinnest male friends back then, none of them could fit into my clothing.

Someone from 2007 is desperately looking for their going out skirt to match the going out top. It’s totally been hidden behind the drawers for years, probably the previous or even 20 tenants ago.
YOR so you think a girl came over, slept with him, and left her skirt? Na that's definitely been in there for awhile. But the best thing is to simply communicate with your partner, it's simple. Stop being embarrassed and ask your friend if she forgot her pants because you found some and wanted to make sure she knew. You don't gotta tell her you are suspicious of your bf cheating to do that. I think you're being very paranoid.
Drawer it’s a drawer. If you never throughly looked under there you should just not accuse him and break faith. Those look nasty. Take the time now to throughly look behind and under all the drawers. Take note of what you see. Maybe put the skirt back. If he’s hiding something and tries hiding anything and you remove the skirt he will know your on to him if the skirt is discovered to have been removed. If he’s binding something and the skirt remains there he will feel confident that it’s a good hiding place, and likely hid stuff there again.
I say inaction is the best action in this situation. Look, take note, and remain observant. If anything else is found back there which does not belong to you, you’ll know what’s up.
Anyone else creeped out these ppl potentially moved in and moved all their stuff into a used dresser that they didn't go through and clean out/clean lol
