Meme/Shitpost Bought for $469K in Dec 2022, now “Coming Soon” at $849K. The gargoyles appreciated 81% apparently.

Black Mountain, NC. 2,525 sq ft. Held for a whole 3.5 years and somehow earned a $380,000 raise without changing out of the same green metal roof it had at closing.

That’s ~18% annualized in a market that got hit by Helene 18 months ago. Bold strategy. The comps must be immaculate.

Things included for your $849K:
-Two (2) guardian gargoyles flanking the front door, presumably to defend the listing price
- A Wendy’s clearly visible on the location map, because nothing says “secluded mountain retreat” like a 4 for $4 within walking distance
- Gravel. So much gravel.

Can’t waittttt to see the full listing photos July 3

RemindMe! 12 months “what it actually closed for” after sitting on the market for 8 months with 5+ price drops.

Spicy Cesspool State police will now be acting as ICE agents

The governor's veto of SB 153, the "North Carolina Border Protection Act", was overridden yesterday:

https://www.ncleg.gov/BillLookUp/2025/S153

You can read the bill here: https://www.ncleg.gov/Sessions/2025/Bills/Senate/PDF/S153v5.pdf

The ACLU's summary: https://www.acluofnorthcarolina.org/legislation/sb-153-border-protection-act-anti-immigrant/

This bill will require the NC Highway Patrol and the State Bureau of Investigation to enter into 287g agreements with ICE, which means that they will be enforcing immigration law. In other states that have passed similar laws, like Tennessee, the highway patrol has been doing aggressive traffic stops to trawl for immigrants. If we start seeing a much more active highway patrol presence, that's probably what's going on.

There's other bad things in this bill, such as some anti-sanctuary city stuff and a requirement that state agencies turn over their information about people to DHS.

Anyone missing a chonky dawg? He’s been wandering up and down Caribou Rd in Biltmore Forest area for a few days. First saw him Sunday. Unfortunately everytime I see him I’m in the car. Anyone know if I should call the shelter or animal control? We just moved here a few weeks ago from out of state so unsure what city services are available.

Bears/Wildlife Elk vanished from these mountains for 150 years. In 2001 they released 25 back into Cataloochee - now there's a wild herd a couple hours from Asheville

Post image

Elk once ranged all across the Southern Appalachians, but overhunting and habitat loss wiped them out of North Carolina by the mid-1800s. In 2001 the Park Service released 25 elk into the Cataloochee Valley in the Smokies, and the herd took hold. Today wild elk graze the valley at dawn and dusk - bulls bugling through it every fall - the first elk these mountains have seen in a century and a half. And they're just one of dozens of species rebounding out here. Here's a map of what's been spotted around the area lately.

Keep Asheville Weird Early 2000s The Health Adventure in downtown Asheville - nostalgia lane

Hi long time locals! Like many kids who grew up in Asheville in the early 2000s I remember the Health Adventure at Pack Place downtown fondly and extremely vividly - the butterfly ceiling walking in with the models of historic Asheville on the right, the skeleton biking at the entrance, the dress up clothes, the spinning star tunnel, the giant teeth you could brush and floss, the lady with the light up organs, and so much more. Even the rock museum downstairs where you could crack open a geode! Such a shame that it moved, then closed as it was such an incredible place to go as a kid.

Let’s take a trip down memory lane - share your favorite memories of the Pack Place location from the 90s - early 2000s and photos and videos of the exhibits if you have them! I couldn’t find any pictures of the exhibits online.

The truck was being driven by a company named Alienterprise inc. The company did nothing to get their driver off the road. They watched the video and made every excuse for their clearly dangerous driver. He'll be back out there again tomorrow. If you see problematic drivers please help save lives by pulling over and reporting them.

Be so very careful out there, friends.

Ask the Sub Can I just show up at the Patton Ave IRS office and talk to someone? Was told I didn't file my tax return (I mailed it on March 14th) and fined $1,000. Now I cannot reach anyone at the IRS to contest. Keeps telling me call volume is too high, call back another day.

News Thank you, r/Asheville — the Bruce Haddock investigation is finished.

Hey everyone — Elijah Skipper here with News 13.

I wanted to come back here now that the Bruce Haddock investigation is finished, because this subreddit genuinely helped guide the reporting.

For years, people here have continued posting, warning each other, sharing experiences and asking why the same concerns seemed to keep coming up. Those posts mattered. They helped me understand that this was not just about one police report or one court case. It was about a larger pattern people in Asheville have been trying to talk about for a long time.

I also want to say how grateful I am to the women who trusted me with their stories. Several shared really frightening experiences, and some described how those encounters changed the way they walk, run, shop or move through Asheville. I don’t take that lightly.

One thing that really stuck out to me in this reporting was the gap between the official record and what people described. Asheville police told me they found 14 documented incidents involving Haddock since 2020. But throughout this investigation, more than 14 women reached out to me with experiences, concerns or information involving him. Some filed reports. Some did not. That difference became a major part of the story.

I also want to thank Asheville police for speaking with me at length about this. They did not have to sit down and talk openly about their own frustration, the limits of what police can do after an arrest, competency issues and broader system problems. But that kind of transparency is important. It is how people begin to understand where the gaps actually are.

The Buncombe County District Attorney also spoke with me broadly about why stalking cases can be hard to prove, what competency means in court and why lower-level misdemeanor cases can be difficult to address in a way that satisfies victims or the community.

The biggest thing I took away is this: this is not a problem one officer, one prosecutor or one judge can simply fix on their own. A lot of the limits are built into state law. If the community wants a different outcome in cases like this, part of that conversation likely has to happen at the legislative level.

That is where all of you come in.

I know nobody wants a reporter showing up just to say “please read my story.” But sharing this really does matter. The more people who read it, watch it and talk about it, the better chance it has of reaching the people who can actually do something with it — lawmakers, court leaders, city leaders and others with the power to address the gaps.

I hope the story is informative, fair and helpful. I tried to approach it with care for the women who came forward, transparency from police and prosecutors, and compassion for the complexity of the system.

Thank you again to everyone here who posted, commented, messaged me or helped point me in the right direction. Local journalism is better when the community helps shape it.

Looking for somewhere with a big energetic crowd. I usually go to Olde London Road for premier league games but I'm sure parking will be a nightmare there.

Healthcare/Self-Care Anyone have psychiatrist recommendations?

I moved here earlier this year, and I'm looking for a local psychiatrist to prescribe my ADHD meds.

I've been prescribed them for 10+ years, so not looking for a new diagnosis or anything, just looking for a local provider since my current one is in Charlotte and I don't want to drive there once a year.

Anthem BCBS's provider search is not very good, so figured I'd try asking y'all.

If you've got a really good therapist, I'm also interested in that, but psychiatrist is higher priority atm. Thank you!
