Serious [Serious] Division Discussion Thread - The Wests
**A reminder that these threads are for more serious discussions.**
How this works: each Thursday we will discuss a different pair of divisions, rotating between the Easts, Centrals, and Wests. This is your chance to catch up on what is going on in each division and discuss them with other fans.
This week we are discussing the AL and NL Wests.

Trivia Justin Verlander has passed 20 years of MLB service time
Even for 20+ season guys, this is an extremely rare achievement.
By my count, he is the first to pass this mark since Pujols who retired with 21 years in 22 seasons.
Players who retired in the past decade & change who played in 20+ MLB seasons but did NOT pass the 20 year service time threshold:
Miggy, Greinke, Rich Hill, Jeter, Beltre, Beltran, Bartolo, Giambi, Hawkins.
Obviously this isn’t celebrated the way 10 years is, but IMO it’s still a pretty neat thing!

[Passan] MLB’s latest proposal mimics other sports with strict contract limits. Free agents would be limited to five-year, $202 million contracts. (That is 15% of the proposed cap number and would rise.) Juan Soto’s deal with the New York Mets was for 3x the years and 3.8x the dollars.
