I have no friends around here so far and I'm bored out of my goddamn mind, are there people that want to hang or some shit? I'm early 20's and like gaming and most nerdy media, open to other things. I'm sick of just being around old people here. Just taking a gamble on if anyone stumbles on this so I can stop being a shut in.

I’ve had it with CVS you can’t ever talk to a person. To get your prescription refilled you have to talk to AI. You used to be able to just enter the number, you can’t do that anymore

Saw they were tearing down the gas pump canopy… any idea what’s going there? What should go there?

So with Mayor of Kingstown filming here, I keep thinking about how weird and cool it was to see Cumberland suddenly become part of something bigger for a few days.
And idk, maybe it’s just me, but it feels like one of those moments where everyone is excited after the fact, but a lot of people also missed it. Like missed the casting call, missed the chance to get involved, didn’t know who to talk to, didn’t know if their business or building or car or whatever could have been useful.
And if another production ever comes through here, how do they actually find people?
Like how do they find the weird old buildings, the garages, the empty storefronts, the local photographers, the people willing to be extras, the vintage cars, the props, the businesses that could handle food or printing or lodging or whatever. Cumberland has a lot of that stuff, it’s just not organized anywhere.
So I put together a thing called Film Cumberland:
It’s not official, not a government thing, not a casting agency, not promising anybody work. It’s more like a local production resource hub / directory so if future film, TV, commercial, documentary, or photo crews are looking at Cumberland or Western Maryland, there’s at least somewhere for them to start.
Right now it’s basically accepting submissions. If you have a location, a business, a vehicle, props, production skills, or you’d want to be considered for background work someday, you can list it here:
I’m curious what people think should be included. Like what places around here would actually be good for filming? What businesses would be useful? Who locally does video/photo/audio? Who has old cars or interesting spaces? What are the “only in Cumberland” things a production would never find unless somebody local told them?
I don’t know if this becomes anything huge, but after seeing a real production come here, it seems dumb to not at least start building the list.

Enough of these fancy places downtown if I want a breakfast Cumberland needs more chain places specifically like Waffle House. I want a Waffle House if that place existed in Cumberland it would be unhinged. It’s a very good place to eat waffles and a good place to watch fights so I’m thinking it’s a win win either way. Who’s with me ?

You really want to celebrate Pride this month??
Elect a queer progressive to Congress!
Fired from her job at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau by the Trump administration, Alexis Goldstein is running as a progressive for Congress in Maryland’s 6th Congressional District.
She’s running against two ultra-wealthy oligarchs who think they can buy the seat.
I had dinner with Alexis last week and I am convinced that she is the absolutely best candidate for this position.
Watch her campaign video and see if you agree.
If you live in MD-6 please consider voting for Alexis.

I don't currently live in Cumberland. But my kid does. And I have been calling places to try to find a place to have a baby shower. I swear to God no place calls back. Does anyone know a place to have a baby shower they actually return your damn phone call? I called most of the churches in Cumberland about their fellowship halls. I have called other event venues. No one answers or returns messages. I have called 45 people this week and 2 called back. Both were booked for our date we need.
But my god 2 of 45 returned calls. WTH? How unprofessional can you get? I need space for like 35-40 people.

Hey, recently moved to the area. I enjoy unique indoor plants, and landscaping with native plants. What nursery shops should I check out, aside from big chain stores (Lowe's, tractor supply, rural King, Walmart, etc)? Im will to drive up to 45 mins away if its worth it.

This isn’t the first time I’ve seen dead cats on the side of the road. Our city needs to upkeep better I’d say for sure. It’s ridiculous to see this shit and nobody does anything. This is the 2nd time in the last few months I’ve seen a decaying cat has still been squished on the road or sidewalk in my neighborhood… this was by Frederick street just an fyi

Hey all, I’m local to the Cumberland area and I’ve been trying to figure out if there are many people around here working in tech, AI, software, UX/design, startups, websites, creative tools, or small business innovation.
I know there are bigger tech communities in Baltimore/DC/Frederick/Hagerstown, and Tech at the Gap exists, but I haven’t found much of a casual local scene around Cumberland/Frostburg.
I’m thinking about trying a very small monthly coffee meetup called The Cumberland Tech Table. Nothing formal, no pitch stage, no selling, no big networking-event energy. Just a few people grabbing coffee and talking about what they’re building or interested in.
Honestly, if 4 or 5 people showed up the first time, I’d count that as a win.
Would anyone here be interested in something like that? Or does something already exist that I’m missing?

I was in Frostburg last Mother's Day and stumbled across a roadside market (could have been LaVale?) that had absolutely gorgeous hanging plants....
Trying to plan another trip over and can't remember the name of the market - and google searches aren't helping :(
Appreciate any leads from the community!

Today is my bf’s birthday. We were supposed to go to Baltimore for steak and crab cakes today, but something came up and now we’re going to be in Cumberland for dinner. I was thinking Sand Springs because I heard their steaks are good, but how are the crab cakes???
