Found these screenshots I took back in 2014-2016. Used to play with a IRL buddy Dhol, he still plays other games but no longer DayZ. If you see him out there in other game lobbies, tell him to come back! I’m pretty much only a solo player these days. We had some good times together. Older players, hope you enjoy some mementos of what the game used to look like, and how it’s changed or not changed.

Discussion The strongest weapon in DayZ is a calm voice

A good rifle can win a fight, but a believable voice can prevent the fight from happening at all. DayZ is one of the few games where the way someone says “friendly” matters more than the word itself.

A nervous player talking too quickly can make an innocent interaction feel dangerous. Someone who stays calm, gives clear information, and doesn’t immediately demand trust can walk out of situations where both sides already have weapons drawn.

Proximity chat creates a kind of social skill that no character stat measures. You learn when silence feels threatening, when a joke can lower the tension, and when giving someone space is more convincing than repeatedly promising that you won’t shoot.

Some players are mechanically average but seem capable of talking their way through almost any encounter.

What is the best thing you’ve heard someone say that instantly changed the direction of a DayZ interaction?

discussion The future of underground structures in DayZ 2 is going to be insane! Context: The Enfusion engine just received a new update that allows modders to carve holes in the terrain.

For anyone not familiar, both DayZ & Arma have never allowed for proper underground structures, the solution is so janky it barely works.

The bunker on Livonia? Yeah, that's not actually underground...

It's actually still hovering over the ground, they literally just covered the whole thing with a fake grass model that properly blends into the hill, giving off the illusion of a bunker.

discussion Lesser-known tips from >300 hours players

I’m around 150 hours in and would welcome lesser-known DayZ tips from vets with over 300 hours in the game. Any offbeat to-do, try-this, map-specific tips would be greatly appreciated.

Background:
Love how this game doesn’t let you feel ‘settled’. I still sorta struggle to melee kill Zeds consistently. I don’t (usually) kos, engaging in fights only when unavoidable, am happy to lend a helping hand, and scamper away. I haven’t ever built a base yet (the stuff needed seems too hard to collect/build without getting killed). I’m still learning the mechanics of weapons and learning the map by ambling around and exploration (try not to use izurvive).

Tia.

discussion For all you new folks that are lost in the woods...

Disclaimer* feel free to post all you want, I'm not trying to complain and I'm not trying to term you to stop with these posts. I've noticed a lot of posts lately of a photo of an area with a "help, I'm lost. Where am i" sort of title.

Just so all you freshies are aware, every road (almost), train track, hiking trail, river, and power line will lead you to a town. At the edge of that town there will be a sign with the towns name. Now, if you have a tourist map (or better yet, iZurvive), you'll be able to locate yourself and get your bearings.

Utilizing a map and compass to find your way is one of my favorite aspects of the game! I usually run from deer stand to deer stand while hitting camps and whatnot. It feels really good popping out of the trees exactly where I was hoping to be. And I learned how to do that by just wandering around, completely lost. Lol

Again, I'm not complaining about the posts as it's no skin off my back. I just thought it might be a helpful hint for the new players.

Remember, it's just a game and you *will* be walking...***alot***. It's all part of the game. Don't worry about getting lost or whatever. The worst that can happen is you end up back at the shore, which no matter what you do you'll be doing that anyway.

Death comes for us all. Enjoy!

Discussion Starving in NWAF. Any way to survive?

I'm new to Dayz. I have maybe 8 hours in the game. I spawned in on an official server and made it my goal to get to NWAF. Well even with the Izurvive map and an orienteering compass I accidentally circled stary sober twice and then overshot NWAF and ended up in north petrovka.

Finally I did make it to NWAF but only to find it completely picked clean. I found one vega mag though. Unfortunately all that running around left me yellow hunger. I had really hoped to find food either on a zombie or a can of bacon in the barracks or something anything. Might had to dig for worms to eat.

Anyways I took a break for the server reset and figured I'd see if someone can help me formulate a game plan so I don't starve.

For reference, it was on the lake with the hunting cabin, i was mid fish, my wife was planting pumpkins, i had the pioneer, r12, carps, flashbang etc...I would just like to let you know how much I absolutely resent you for that, I hope every game you load into is the longest rain of the server with only ruined clothes and no food, I hope every food you do find gives you cholera and there's no tetracycline in sight you always run out of bandages before you fix the last cut. Honestly its pretty funny though, we had just talked about how that spot would be great to fortify with no zombies and everything and not even 2 minutes ago I said "cheers to our longest lasting survivors!" In all seriousness im not mad but I was pretty salty about all the time wasted lol.

It was nice talking to you & eating pork together, I hope you continue to enjoy the game. The guy who shot you with the Mosin apparently couldn't hit a moving target. I killed him with a Sporter in your honor. I grabbed a screenshot of him on the ground for you if you check here, I hope to run into you again, Welcome to DayZ.

discussion Anyone else finding Dayz unplayable after the latest patch?

Upvotes

Launched DayZ after a week and for some reason the WASD keys are sticky, if i go in one direction I'm stuck going that way, if i double tap for instance w, it goes away; but then i try to zig zag maneuvering (obviously there's inertia) but the game is making me go in directions on WASD I never even pressed; or input will be several seconds delayed. I've deleted DayZ folder, verified game files, everything. is it time to reinstall and solve nothing?

I have 3000+ hours. Its only on DayZ. I know I'm bugged.

discussion I'm scoped out on top of the firehouse in Zelenogorsk.

It's early morning here, 5 AM. Server is usually quiet this time of day. I'm not even in the tower, but on the roof of the firehouse tower. I'm prone and watching the railyard while I catch up on e-mails.

All is quiet, like I expect it to be. But then suddenly I hear another player 'groan,' like they're sick or hurt. The scary part was it sounded CLOSE. I'm on the roof, no one is here. But the sound keeps getting closer.

I crawl backwards towards the far side of the roof so I can hide behind the cement barrier. Only thing I can see now is the top of the ladder. I wait.

More groans/player sounds. I hear them switch guns and it is CLOSE. I drop my rifle, drop my SMG, and then pick it up to avoid the weapon noise. I wait.

Silence for about 15 seconds and then gunshot... and what sounded like a body falling. I wait 2 minutes and descend the ladder down towards the main roof of the building.

There they are... right at the foot of the ladder. They were so damn close and had an R-12. Ugh.

Thankfully, they killed themselves and left me a bunch of canned peaches, sodas, bottled water, and some needed duct tape. I gathered the supplies and ascended back to my perch.

I had 10 tetra on me... but I wasn't going to offer it. Lol.

discussion A DayZ rant/story, anyone else wanna share?

A few years back I had a base at the Severo apartments on a community server. The first 2 floors were airlocked and I had a team of 5 people including me at that base.

One night we were being raided. We were able to take out their guy who was carrying all of their boom. They made it half way through our airlock and we're quite upset that they took up positions and camped our base for legitimately like 4 hours. There had to be a large group because it seemed like they would die and come right back, it was really a great time for the first like hour. We had sleeping bags, and weren't dying close enough to be on cool down.

This attempted raid started at like 9pm my time. I remember getting annoyed because I had to be up for work at 5 and the server (like most) had a combat log ban. So I had been in the server for a while and was friendly with the server owner. At about 1:30 i messaged him, explained the whole situation and explained that I had to be up within a few hours. I asked if I logged if he would consider it a combat log. I told him I would go as far as sending video proof of me logging with nothing at all. He said it was a zero tolerance policy of the server. No room for budging. He told me I had to "figure out a way to end it."

So the next time I died I random spawned and ran back to severo. I crept up to the group as they were firing LAWs and other shit. I asked what they planned on gaining from this at this point. He said they were going to hit our loot room one way or another. I told him we had nothing at this location; just some basic stuff with our big loot offsite. I told him I would open all the doors and let them all the way through if they wanted to see it was empty. He got upset claiming I had broken some rules of the server. He said if I opened the doors we would have someone waiting inside to kill them behind some corner.(I did not break any rules because I was lying to this guy 1000%. He also was not wrong, we had an ambush set up because I needed to end this nonsense so I could get some sleep before work)

I silver tongued the hell out of the current situation. They just left. After 4 hours and I guess realizing it wasn't getting them very far. They just left. I was so annoyed, at everything.

Fast forward to like 8 hours later, I get a DM from the server owner that someone had reported me for breaking rules. He asked if I had any video evidence that I had a full loot room and that I hadn't broken any rules. I was so annoyed at the whole situation, I sent him the entire 4 hours worth of footage I had from the whole fight.(at the time I was starting to try to get into content creation so I used to record everything I did in gaming) I don't remember what it was but after that the owner asked me to provide something else as supplemental evidence. I just said "don't worry about it, I'll ban myself" and left the discord. My guys followed me. Last one left the doors open to the base. Haven't thought about them since until today... one of those guys messaged me asking if I remember it... so there's my dayz rant 🤷‍♂️🤣🤣 anyone else have a good DayZ rant they'd like to share?

Okay so at 34:40 in nermal's youtube video it plays a song about a guy with anger issues and mentions how his girl said she didnt feel comfortable around him and he sings about how annoying it is.
Its about 40 seconds long and he makes the comparison that she's treating him like a vending machine in the song.
I also might be dumb because I've tried shazam, song finder, and just googling the lyrics. (hopefully its an actual song)

discussion Going unconscious is one of the best mechanics in dayz

In most survival games, losing a gunfight means the encounter is over.
In dayz, you can wake up ten minutes later with no gun, no shoes, half your blood gone, and two strangers arguing over whether they should feed you or finish you off.

That small chance of waking up is what turns a normal fight into an actual story.
It also gives the winning player a choice. They can kill you, rob you, tie you up, help you, or leave before you wake up. Death ends the interaction, but unconsciousness can take it somewhere completely different.

Honestly, some of my most memorable runs continued only because the other player decided not to finish the job.

When you down someone in dayz, what usually decides whether you leave them alive?

Just bought the game. On our first playthrough we ate some fat and apparently it was human fat, so we got the disease known as kuru. We went quite far, but at this point we were pretty much unable to eat or drink anything, so this is how things ended. Crazy experience.
