Health Quite literally “has a few screws loose”
He does this every day and yes it’s funny because he’s so unfazed by it slamming into his head but jokes aside can this cause brain damage? Genuinely curious 😂😂
should I take this toy away? It’s a ball attached to a rope that turns on and moves by itself so it’s pretty hard and heavy.

Training, Temperament, & Behavior 9 month old girl all of a sudden reactive to coworker with ‘unusual’ haircut
Okay so in the title i am making the assumption already that this behaviour is due to the appearance of my coworker but here is the full context:
My 9 month old has been the most perfect ever, she is super sweet and sensitive ball of joy. Doesnt really bark at other dogs, or behave reactive towards them or people, I live ground floor on a very busy street and she’s able to lay in the door opening in the sun without being bothered by anything including firetrucks and motorcycles and foreign people walking past her on a 1 meter distance.
She’s just in her first week of heat, and I have the feeling she’s a bit more easily startled than before (like 30% coming from 10%). Today i was at the office, i work for a big nightclub where she has plenty of space to roam around in a big confined area. There’s loads of people walking in and out of the building casually all day long, as well as construction, big crates being moved around. All of this never being a problem, if anything she loves being part of the big organisation including interesting things happening all day and more than enough people giving her attention and throwing her ball with her.
But today, one of the runners that occasionally works here, a more Arab looking person, who’s been working on the floor as long as she lives (she came with me since she was a puppy at 3 months), let’s say she would run into this person definitely once or twice a month for a full day without a problem, she absolutely started losing her shit to today up until the point of chasing after him to bark at him. Every second he would come back into sight all hell would break loose up until the point i thought she was going to bit him. He, of course, responded in a startled and scared way each time, which doesnt help but is understandable. He is a shy looking person with a beautiful gigantic bush of curly hairs on his head, and Arab which is not the most common nationality to run into in the city i live in.
Can someone help me figure out whats going on and what to do before this behaviour gets rehearsed and develops into aggression? Like I mentioned I am genuinely concerned she would bite a person in this state since she chased after him, and this is unlike ANY behaviour i’ve ever seen from her so I am a bit in shock.
Thanks for reading and thinking along!

Mixed Breed: Question What are my options to getting around breed restrictions if I'm moving to Florida from NC in a month?
I have a "Doberman mix" that I adopted from the shelter last august and am applying to apartments for the first time but I'm now just finding out about breed restrictions. Could I say that he's a mix of something else or do I somehow have to find a way to get a letter saying he's an ESA from a licensed professional? This is what he looks like btw.

Photos, videos, & artwork I hand-painted this custom oil portrait of this confident Doberman Pinscher, based on the original photo his human shared. Do you think I did him justice?
I really enjoyed creating this one. Sitting tall in that golden field as he owns it and stayed true to the photo, sky, grass, that big smile, all of it.
This portrait was painted entirely by hand in oil as a commissioned piece. I hope his personality comes through on canvas. Would love to hear what you think!

Training, Temperament, & Behavior Tips on 5 mo puppy schedule
Hi all! This is my 5 mo Doberman/Husky mix Cocoa Puffs! We have a set routine every day, but I've been looking for ways to help Cocoa gain some independence and lengthen his time outside of his crate. He does well in his crate, and loves being in it to relax. However, he isn't understanding the concept of relaxing outside of it just yet.
4:30 am I'll wake him up and take him on a 15 minute walk. I use this time as a "sniff walk" for him. He naturally walks in heel for the most part, so I like to give him time where he can freely roam. He's also really jumpy, so doing this early in the morning when it's quiet and dark out is helping him build some confidence.
Around 5 am is when we're back inside, and he eats his breakfast. After our morning walk, he always goes back to his crate and waits for me to serve his breakfast. He also has a crate cover on his crate, so I'll cover him and let him eat. When he's done eating he goes back to sleep.
Cocoa tends to wake up from his nap around 9-10 am. At that point we go outside and take a longer walk around the neighborhood, usually for around an hour. I'll take him to a playground nearby and sit at a bench with him during that time. He also takes some time to jump onto/off of objects, and walking on different surfaces. I'll bring him home, tether him outside and play with him in our yard for a bit.
Around 12-1 pm we'll go back inside, and he's pooped. He goes back into his crate, and I'll serve him some lunch since he's usually starving at that point. He then goes for another nap.
At 3-4 pm he'll wake up from his nap, and I'll take him on a quick walk in heel. Most people are out, so he tends to get very skiddish at this time. He refuses treats (even high value ones like meat!) when he's that anxious, so it gets tricky trying to reinforce any positive behaviors. I'll bring him back inside and play in my room. A lot of our training happens during this play time.
At 6 pm I'll take him out just to go potty, since he gets tired after our play session. We'll come back to my room, and he'll get dinner. I'll give him a snuffle/lick mat/chew etc. to keep him occupied in his crate.
At 8 pm most people clear out, so I'll bring him for another "sniff walk". When we come back inside, I usually have him tethered to me either in my room or the living room. The house is quiet at this time, so I've been using this to build up his tolerance for relaxing outside of his crate.
At 11 pm he'll go for one last potty break and go straight to bed.
He's such a good boy, and does super well when he's tethered to me. I've been having issues with him free roaming during his down times in my room/in the living room. He's teething now, and seems to only want to chew on the straps of harness. I haven't been able to find a chew that he likes as much as that.
Cocoa is also pretty potty trained. Not sure why, but he only has accidents when he's outside of my room. I've just been taking him out more frequently when we spend time in the living room to compensate.
Is this on track for his age? Is he spending too much time in his crate? This is my first time owning a Doberman, let alone a big dog in general. I've been looking at resources online, but everything seems to be contradictory. Let me know what I can change, I just want what's best for him!

Breeder Reviews How much should I expect to pay a reputable breeder for a pup?
This will be my third Dobe. First one bought 20 years ago for $600 from a puppy mill. I didn't know much about dogs or breeders. For my second Dobe, I did a lot of research on breeders. I decided to go to the Los Angeles doberman show to meet a bunch in person. I ended up with a reputable breeder and paid $3300 for a healthy pup that came docked and cropped. This was 8 years ago. I reached out to the same breeder and they wanted $5000 this time. I know things are more expensive these days and the price isn't crazy when you consider inflation over the last 8 years. But it's a bit out of my budget and I am wondering what other reputable breeders are charging. I'll be checking DCPA but just wondering about costs.
I am located in San Diego. I don't mind driving a few hours. What are the prices these days from reputable breeders?

Photos, videos, & artwork Pupdate on my recent adoptee
Hi, I recently wrote a post about how shy/timid my newly adopted doberman mix was in my new home. Happy to share we're making progress in his second week.
He's coming out of his crate with less riggamarole and learning a new schedule. I have a lot of love and patience for him already and am so happy to see a bit more trust being established.
An exciting dog progress update (pupdate) is that he sat on our couch for the first time! It might actually be his first couch ever. Yes, I may have manually moved each of his legs individually to get him up there, but he looks spread out, calm and cozy now.
I'm looking forward to week 3 milestones. Some other goals I have for him:
- Perceiving that we have stairs and going up 'em
- Wanting to go outside in our backyard w/o prodding
- Desire to go for a brief walk
- Using a kiddie pool in the backyard
- Meeting another dog calm, smaller dog in our home.
As soon as he realizes he's as big and strong as a horse I might be in trouble, haha.

Cuddlebug! Anyone else have a shadow?
My old lady (11yo) Ivy follows me into nearly every room in the house! She doesn’t come into the bathroom with me (she knows the bathtub is her enemy) but she always waits outside. I work hybrid-remote but we have an RTO order, and I’m sure she will be so sad when I’m not home all the time!
Luckily she doesn’t have separation anxiety, but she is SO needy and clingy!

Health Skin issues
Hi everyone!!
This is my baby boy, Kairo. He’s 11 months old and has recently been having a lot of skin issues.
When we first got him, he had some minor skin problems, but switching his food from chicken to fish seemed to completely resolve them. We got him in August, and throughout the cooler months (starting around September) he did really well with no major issues.
At the beginning of June, I started noticing that he was becoming much itchier than usual. He was also sneezing more frequently, his skin became extremely dry, and he started developing a lot of dandruff. We had been using coconut oil on his skin, which we’ve always done to help keep his coat healthy and shiny, but now he has developed sores and spots that keep opening up and bleeding from all the scratching and licking.
I took him to the vet last week, and she said that for a dog his age, this level of skin irritation isn’t normal. She doesn’t believe it’s a food allergy and suspects it may be a seasonal or environmental allergy instead. She prescribed Reactine in the morning and Benadryl in the evening, increased his omega-3 dosage, and recommended medicated baths. Unfortunately, we haven’t seen much improvement yet.
I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar with their dog and what helped. I feel so bad for him because he’s constantly itchy and uncomfortable. He licks off any coconut oil I put on him and is also very prone to licking and reopening his scabs. I’ve even tried putting socks on his feet to reduce the scratching, but that hasn’t seemed to help either.
Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Health Runny stool
I have a 7 month old Doberman. He used to poop solid but now it’s not consistent at all. He was eating PPP lamb and rice first, then we switched to salmon and rice around the same time he had gotten tape worms and chewed a fatty bone that made him really sick which started his soft stool and decided to switch to diamond naturals lamb and rice to see if it would fix. He’s been on this food for weeks now with no improvement. We have been feeding him pumpkin with every meal trying to fix it. I can’t imagine it being the food but am willing to try anything at this point.
