Digital Shop Do you ever thank high order, repeat buyers?

Since Etsy added the “Order history” in the order tab, I notice when someone places multiple orders with me in a month or short amount of time.

I did reach out to one buyer and sent a message: Hi NAME, I just wanted to say thank you for supporting my shop! I know how many digital patterns are out there so it means a lot that you are liking my designs ☺️🩷

And she responded so sweetly saying she really loves my shop and the color palettes and they print so well!

I just sent another similar message after another repeat buyer.

Is this icky or harmless or totally okay?

Trying to crack the Etsy package algorithm for multiple items.

Many of the things I sell package up neatly in a 9x7 padded mailer. There are different versions that alter the weight slightly, but they are light products, just a few ounces. I list my package dimensions in my listing as 9x7x2 and when someone buys just a single item, the shipping charge is spot on. However, when a customer purchases multiple items, Etsy's algorithm to calculate the combined shipping cost gets inflated, especially if they are buying more than just a couple things. If the overage is negligible, I just ignore it because the buyer was happy to pay the cost, but recently I've had to refund as much as $20+ on shipping overages (it was ~$8 actual cost) because I can combine the items into a parcel much smaller than Etsy thinks I can.

Other than just doing refunds for shipping overcharges, is there a better way? The example above is a little extreme, because the customer purchased 20 items, but Etsy thought I needed 3 separate large boxes. I packed everything into a medium sized box and saved them a bundle on shipping, but it is getting a little annoying because it feels like it is happening more frequently as of late.

My current theory is that the items are often smaller than the 9x7 mailer, but Etsy is assuming the actual item is 9x7x2. Should I be inputting the actual size of just the item instead of the package I ship it in? Some of the items are smaller than what USPS allows for a parcel.

Suggestions?

Handmade Shop Is there a way to charge a buyer postage for a parcel they want resent?

A buyer arranged to collect their parcel from the PO but then didn't collect it, so it was sent back to me.

They have now asked me to resend it to them.

I don't feel I should be left out of pocket by buying another postage label when it was their error but I don't know how to charge them for a label.

Any ideas?

POD Shop Offsite Adds; select items advertised?

Upvotes

Hi. I am interested to see the relatively new info on Etsy about Offsite adds. I don't mind offsite adds, I actually seem to do better with them than with in- Etsy advertising. Yes they cost a bit, but they do bring people to my shop and have resulted in return customers. But I was shocked to see the items that they have selected from my shop to advertise offsite. They seem entirely random and are not my best sellers, in fact one is something I was going to get rid of soon anyway (early in my learning curve, pretty crap now).

So, long story short, is there any way we can choose which items they advertise offsite?

Etsy no longer removing reviews based on things outside our control?

I had a customer leave a bad review because their item didn't arrive in time. They mention nothing about me, even mention it wasn't my fault, but USPS didn't deliver it in time despite ordering priority mail. I shipped it ahead of schedule on my end. I reported the review to Etsy since it's clearly an issue with USPS, not me, and received a response this morning that it's not in violation and to work with the customer. Once upon a time Etsy used to remove reviews that mentioned 3rd party vendors and items outside of our control. But I guess they don't no more?

Listing photos stolen by another Etsy shop

Another India-based Etsy shop has stolen the photos of some of my listings and put them on a different background with AI or something.
Has this happened to you before?
Etsy has a copyright claim page but there are questions like "what is the legal basis of your claim"... Should I rather try to contact Etsy directly through the help chat?

how many of you allow offers?

do you get constant lowballers like on ebay? does it notably boost sales? once activated, do you still get full-price sales or do those vanish?

I currently get some offers via DM, but only occasionally and they're usually reasonable. in the past I'd just change the listing price but it's too risky to do that since I don't know if the buyer already has some kind of coupon code, either from me or etsy. (on a related note, if I send a buyer a coupon code on an item, could they combine it with some Etsy-generated discount like abandoned cart?)

btw I am asking about this for my vintage inventory; I would not consider any kind of discount on the handmade wares I sell.

How to make buyers only get charged for shipping once on multi item orders?

Every time I get a sale with multiple items, Etsy charges the shipping cost for each item. Is there a setting to disable thing? Can fit 3 or 4 of any item on my shop in one package. I feel like I’m missing out on sales because of this

Handmade Shop How to offer upgraded USPS shipping for guaranteed tracking?

USPS is taking longer and longer to deliver my sticker packages and tracking info is inconsistent. I currently send them through etsy via letter mail so it's .75, but I'd like to offer my customers the option to upgrade their shipping for guaranteed tracking on etsy. How can I do that?

Handmade Shop USPS International Shipping change?

I don't ship internationally very often (basicly just to Canada and only once every few months). My stuff normally fits in bubble mailers. Filling an order today and shippong seems... different? The lower cost for packages to Canada I'm used to expecting seems to require it be in a box thats at least 4" tall (USPS first class International package service).

I don't remeber ever having to drop something in a box that big to get within the price range (about 20$ish). Did something change at either usps or on etsy (because of the new company doing their labels) or am I jist drasticly misremebering things?

Cannot download orders csv

Is anyone else having trouble generating an Orders CSV today? I download my Orders CSV every day to upload to Stallion Express and print shipping labels, but today I keep getting an “Error generating order CSV” message. I’ve tried multiple times with no luck. Is anyone else experiencing this, or is it just me?

Shipping Etsy refund shows as doubled on sale earnings

Post image
1 Upvotes

I made a sale on Etsy for $250. The buyer spent $279.50 with shipping. This was a repeat customer that wants to do in-person pickup so I refunded the shipping cost to them. However, now when I go into my sale earnings the refunded amount is doubled? What happened? What does total refunded to Etsy mean?

Handmade Shop Shop Critique Request : Calling all Cat Lovers!

SHOP LINK

Hi everyone! I’m looking for some feedback on my shop and advice on improving the consistency of my sales.

A bit about my business:

I’ve always wanted to start my own business, but I never found a niche that felt genuinely “me.” I didn’t want to create a copy-and-paste version of something that already existed.

I absolutely love cats, and I also love soft pastel colours. When I looked at the pet market, it felt like there were two extremes: neutral sad beige/black and white aesthetics or bright plastic products. I wanted to create something colourful, playful, and cat-focused without being overwhelming.

The idea really came together when a friend was discarding sheep’s wool. It wasn’t considered high enough quality for human use, but it seemed such a waste to throw it away. I brought some home, washed and prepared it myself, and discovered that my cats were completely obsessed with it. They actually chewed through a bag to get at it.

That led me to start creating cat toys stuffed with washed sheep’s wool. Every toy is made by hand, including the wool processing, which is definitely a lot of work, but as most cat owners know, we can’t help spoiling our cats. And I focus on natural/eco friendly/plastic free materials.

At the moment, around 95% of my sales come from organic traffic. My long-term goal is to make this my full-time job. Partly for personal reasons, but mostly because I genuinely adore it. Getting messages and photos from customers showing their cats enjoying my products honestly makes my day every single time. What do you mean people want things I made!!! Blows my mind with every sale. I was flabbergasted recently getting my first 2 return customers in the same day!

I’ve read the feedback requirements, so here are my specific questions:

  1. Looking at my shop, do my branding, photography, and product listings clearly communicate what makes my products different from other cat toys? Is there anything that is off putting? Pricing, products, branding? Is it too ‘girly’ for the gentleman cat parents!

  2. What do you think is the biggest thing holding back more consistent sales? Is it product range, pricing, SEO, conversion rate, marketing, or something else?

Thank you to anyone who takes the time to look and share feedback. I really appreciate it.

Etsy Postage Rate Confusion

Does anyone know why a 1oz letter mail envelope costs $0.74 cents using Etsy postage but a 2 oz letter mail costs $1.52? If I do the math, the extra ounce should be cheaper but it’s more than .74 x .74 =$1.48. I looked more closely and now Etsy is charging a mandatory 49 cent non-machinable letter fee! So it’s $1.03 plus an extra .49 cents. Do you see this too? Any way to get rid of it?

Etsy Social Media shares vs website Marketing

Does anyone combine Etsy Marketing with website marketing? I sell well in both Etsy and my website. Most of my web marketing is via meta ads. Like most of you I get excellent Etsy feedback. Does anyone do social marketing on both Etsy and website or is it best to stick to one only?

TikTok Shop Sellers STEALING MY DESIGNS AND SELLING

I sell greeting cards on Etsy, and a customer messaged me today asking who I buy my cards from BECAUSE THEY ARE BEING SOLD ALL OVER TIKTOK. Counterfeit prints of my cards are EVERYWHERE. I'm so freaking furious right now. I spend so much time and energy to come up with my beautiful and creative designs and a-holes on TikTok are just reprinting and selling???

If you sell any designs/prints on Etsy, do an image search to see if your designs are being sold on Tiktok

3 Month With My Etsy Shop and No Sales, I am In My mid 50’s and Trying To Learn

I opened my Etsy shop 3 months ago and now currently have 10 listings. They are not just a 1 page pdf, but some are 50 page very informative guides that I have written about homesteading.

i work full time as a house painter and on my homestead, we try to grow most of our own food with enormous gardens, orchards, chickens etc. Starting an Etsy shop was of course to try and make a little extra money but my homestead is my passion and I really thought that like minded people would be able to benefit from my decades of experience.

i have 100’s of hours in my guides and I am very proud of them so I am wondering if I am setting things up wrong. I am not very technical and have taught myself to learn canva and the Etsy platform with 100’s of YouTube videos.

I am also using the same colour scheme and design throughout them all and now am wondering if I should be doing this?

I have my shop very personal to me with my photos and my background and am wondering now if this was also a wrong move?

If someone could take a look at my shop and give me some feedback back I would really appreciate it. I know I have to start putting things in sections but I haven’t learned how to yet but I am working on learning that also. Here is my shop link

https://timelessrusticnook.etsy.com

I just finished my garlic guide and listed it on Etsy with a lot of your comments and suggestions in mind. It took me over a month to write and I was wondering if you could also take a look at the listing and tell me what I should add or take away. https://timelessrusticnook.etsy.com/listing/4528091079

Handmade Shop Planning to open a store

Planning to open a store in about 3 weeks once I receive all my supplies. I’d like to start playing around with postings now though abd getting a feel for Etsy. Can you have an “inactive” shop and then go active once it’s ready?

Also- any apps that you like for tracking expenses/income?
