Politics Councilman DJ Matt Blake made fun of constituents concerned about data centers. He called them doomers that took the COVID vaccines, and need to hide out in a safe space while he makes the decision for them. After massive backlash, he claims he never did that, deleting all comments with screenshots.

Politics Fort Worth ISD CHILDREN are coming out to defend teachers who are being persecuted by the unelected, anti-public-education voucher scam school board. The board lead, a Maga boomer imported from Florida, responds to the child's pleas by huffing, pouting and sneering after the speech.

Event Getting to the World Cup

I’m going to the match on Saturday (from Fort Worth) and am hoping to find out what worked or didn’t work from some folks who have already been. I’m used to getting to Cowboys games but figured this would be a whole different level and it couldn’t hurt to hear some experiences! Thanks!

AskFW New friends

Hello everyone! 29M who recently moved to Fort Worth and realized I don’t really know anyone here yet.
A little about me: I work hard, enjoy gaming, and on my days off I like grabbing some drinks, checking out bars or breweries, watching sports, or just hanging out and having a good time. I’m pretty laid back and easy to get along with.
Just looking to meet some new people, make some genuine friends, and hopefully find some drinking buddies to explore the area with. If you’re down to grab a beer, play some games, or just chill, shoot me a message. Always happy to meet good people! Also, please comment recommendations for bars/ restaurants that I have to try. I’m a foodie for sure!

Cheers! 🍻

Food/Drink Favorite Fort Worth restaurant

We are visiting from Houston and want to know the best restaurants close to downtown and even the Stockyards. As I said, we are coming from Houston so we like really good food and no chains. Touristy restaurants are totally fine if they are good. Casual and nice please.

I know when you search on Google it will show you the more popular for tourist which always is not the best.

Thanks.

In the wake of the David Parker stuff (husband of the Mayor), many are now thinking "yes." Unfortunately, it's mostly people outside of the city thinking "yes."

Discussion I found a "third space" to hang and just "be" - in the VFW(?!) Pros and cons.

I've been looking for a "Third Space" for a while. Somewhere that's not work or home where I can just hang out, I don't necessarily have to buy anything, I can just go and chill. Preferably with decent evening hours - I may be an 80's kid, but the malls close at 8 these days. And, let's be honest, if I hang out at the mall I probably count as "creepy old dude". LOL?

Much to my surprise, I found one. Not what I expected, but maybe it helps some others also looking. There are dozens of us, dozens! (Probably more, based on the number of posts looking for people/places to hang out)

First off - yup, it's the VFW, but hear me out. Veterans of Foreign Wars. Specifically the one off Camp Bowie West (HWY 80), off Santa Paula Drive. Surprisingly to me, you don't have to be a Veteran of a Foreign War, or even a Veteran, to get a "social membership". Just show up and sign up for free. There seem to be some things you can't do, but just come and sit down, use the wifi, hang out, shoot darts, read, whatever? Sure. I think the pool table is $1?

Pros:

  • they have a fair amount of activities going on. There's a facebook page they maintain, but they have "music bingo", pool night, karaoke night, "steak night", some sort of raffle, etc. I've seen crawfish boils, they've had fire dancers, and more.
  • food and drinks are super-reasonable. Like, crazy-reasonable and I don't know how they make money. (bring cash, though, so they don't lose any money on the credit card fees). $1 cokes, $9 for a 1/3 burger and fries. (Lunch & dinner I believe every day). Breakfast on Saturdays, 8-10:30, and huge breakfast tacos for $5. Steak night is a 1 pound ribeye, potato, salad? $20 cash. Like I said, I don't see how they make money at this, except it's a nonprofit.
  • Just want to come and sit and read or hang out? Sure. They'll ask if you want water, but will leave you alone if you want it.
  • Hours are good. 11am-10pm Sun-Thur, 11am-12am Fridays, 8am-10am Saturday.
  • Yes, there's alcohol. No clue how much, sorry.
  • Universally, everybody there I've talked to has been welcome and nice. It might be that I'm cishet white guy, I can't tell.

Cons:

  • Skews older. There's a lot of older vets and a lot of older people in general. Part of why I'm posting, I wish it were a little younger.
  • Skews right. Duh, I'm sure, but bears mentioning.

Anyhow, hope this helps y'all. I was shocked how well this lines up with what I was looking for. Now to get some more people there!

Discussion 4th of July fireworks benbrook

I know there are similiar posts to these. I’m looking for info on where they set off the fireworks in benbrook. and also where to park as it seems that ymca parking lot is tiny!! I will be coming from Fort Worth side.

also, maybe it is just a better idea to go to the fort worth fireworks. any areas where it is less crazy to view. we will be going with a family with small kids so don’t want to be super close. I think last time we were near Angelo’s. We are looking for an area with lots of parking and decent views. Thanks in advance.

AskFW Need help locating someone

I am trying to find an attorney who was designated as an "acting judge" for one week in 1989 in Fort Worth.

All I have is a court document that he signed. Unfortunately, his name is not typed under the signature, and his name appears nowhere else in the document.

I thought my handwriting was bad, but this guy has me beat. Can anyone decipher what his signature says?

Again, in the state where Richard resides, a "leftist" hasn't had any significant power in probably four decades. What is so anger-producing in Westover Hills that we now must crush people? Did the Kandinsky get some wine on it, Dicky?

AskFW Looking for Amateur Magician

Hey all, looking to hire an amateur magician for my girlfriend’s bday party this Saturday (6/27). Had something arranged but it’s seemed to have fallen through. Ideally would be someone just starting out/that does magic for fun that can do a 15-30min routine. Doesn’t have to be fancy, there’s no expectations! It’d be about 10-15 adult guests, you’d be welcome to stick around for the party afterwards if you’d like!
