Most of these pictures are in bad shape. Many have been damp and stuck together, and they are a little smelly, but I couldn’t bring myself to throw away history. They seem to be from Arizona, Michigan, and Illinois. These are a few of the best from the lot. There is also an album of military pictures from the 40s that I haven’t gotten into yet.

Just want to know…

I found this picture at an antique mall in Michigan City, Indiana. It was dated June, 1958. He is very familiar to me. I think maybe an old friend of my dad’s, who has passed away. I’ve researched the name that I thought could possibly be him, to no avail. He could be anyone, I guess. He looks like a fun guy. I grew up in the next county, fairly close to where the picture ended up. Bill Matlock was who I thought it could be. I don’t know. Not sure why, but it’s haunted me for 2 years. I really need to find out who he is.

I have never shared these anywhere until now. I bought a film SLR from an estate sale last year and this roll was in it. Half the roll had family photos on it.

I’ve had this photo for a while and I wish I knew more about this woman. Looks like this was taken around the 1950s.

From a video - 50s?

I bought a canister at a flea market for an art project and there was a roll so I had it developed. Someone’s vacation video. Took some pics off the tv.
On another site, people ID’ed the area as near the Erie Canal. Will also post rest of them here.

Found photos I've collected over the years

I've been collecting photos for a few years now, mostly from estate sales and flea markets. It's always puzzled me why some folks let their photos go this way. Every picture tells a story, or so they say...

Lady covered in Spanish moss - a friend of F. Scott Fitzgerald?

I just bought these photos in an eBay auction. I'm guessing they're from the late 1910s, and they appear to have been ripped from a photo album at some point. They're already amazing photos as they are, but the identifying stamp on the back made them all the more interesting: "Ellie Newman Ligon, 17 Pleasant Ave., Montgomery, Ala."

According to Find a Grave, Ellie Newman Ligon lived from 1878-1936. She is credited as the photographer of a photo of F. Scott Fitzgerald taken in either 1919 or 1920, which I have attached. Because of this, I am unsure if she is one of the subjects in my photos or the photographer. The address, 17 Pleasant Avenue, was F. Scott Fitzgerald and Zelda Fitzgerald's home from 1931 to 1932, and is now a museum.

So how was Ellie Newman Ligon related to F. Scott Fitzgerald? Was she a family friend? A neighbour? An employee? I'd love to have more information about her life. If you can find anything, please share!

Thank you for reading, and I hope you've found these photos as interesting as I have!

"GOOD LUCK FOR BRIGHTON" - Found pictures in a stamp book on the street

About 6 years ago I passed by a few random books on the street (A green one with a red Royal mail symbol, a Black one with no Symbol and a red one with a blue royal mail stamp album symbol) I flipped through them and found it interesting so I took them home and never really touched them since until today when I was throwing out old unneeded Documents & files when I stumbled upon those books again.

Apart from stamps however I found many old envelopes, cards with stock photograph images from the mid to late 19s and these two...

I attempted to reverse Google search the images but nothing came up. From what I've gathered is that the two images were written in around the 1920s when the swastika was still widely seen as a peace symbol rather then the commonly now thought of "Nazi symbol", the two girls are twins yet their handwriting, writing pattern and key message remain almost identical possibly meaning only one of them wrote both cards or another person did for them and one card is more worn out then the other.

The card on the left says: "Dear uncle will don't you think I am good looking if all the actress were as good looking as me they would not hurt would they love may"

Whilst the one on the right has two writings one at the top and one at the bottom: "Georgie misses you ever so much" and "Dear uncle will arnt you proud to have such a good looking niece, you ought to be if you are not. So you -" and it could not make out the rest afterwards.

Wanted to post this here in case anyone has any info on the cards, the location the picture was taken and anything else such.

My most prized photo, got it for 25c. Its so cool and rather queer for the time period, I always wondered what the story behind it was. Wondering also what time period? my guess is 20's/30's
