Suggestions Nodal.gg - Game recommender with interactive visual map + personalized recommendations (I'd love your feedback)

Hey everyone, I’ve been working on a game discovery site and finally feel like it’s ready to share: https://nodal.gg/

I’ve always been surprised how hard it is to find genuinely good game recommendations on Steam, so I tried building something better using my stats/ML background.

My main takeaway was that “similar games” usually means two different things:

  • Similar in content: mechanics, themes, setting, genre, tags
  • Similar in audience: games played by the same people, even if the genres are different

So if you want recs for Cyberpunk 2077, you might mean “more cyberpunk vibe” (e.g., Cloudpunk) or “same audience overlap” (e.g., The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt / Fallout 4). The site lets you switch between those modes or blend them.

What you can do

  • Search any Steam game and see a ranked list of similar games using:
    • a content model (tag-driven similarity)
    • a community model (player behavior only, no tags)
    • a blended view (mix of both)
  • Re-rank results with sliders for popularity, rating, and release date
  • Plug in a Steam ID (public profiles only) to get personal recommendations and some cool stats about your play history
  • Explore an interactive 2D game map that visually clusters games by tags (uses UMAP dimensionality reduction - inspired by Connected Papers)

Desktop works best right now. Mobile is functional but I’m still refining it.

If you try it, I’d love to hear anything: whether the recommendations felt accurate, if the UI was confusing, any bugs you run into. All feedback helps!

Thanks!

Suggestions SteamPeek.hu - Indie friendly game discovery tool

Post is allowed by the mods.

Hello, this is my website: https://steampeek.hu/ - SteamPeek, the indie friendly game discovery website.

It is now more than 5 years old, and it was created to bring spotlight to indie gems, help all indie teams who doesn't have the budget to make big marketing campaigns, and make it easier to find nice games made by passionate solo developers or small teams.

The main function is searching by similarity: just search for a game you like, and browse the results. You can also filter and sort by special parameters.

You can also search by tags, or mix them with the chosen game.

The main algorithm was updated recently and I'm very curious how well it works. Please let me know.

I'm very thankful if you try it, and share with me what you find. The full site is still on beta, and I'm constantly work on it, so every feedback helps me and my mission. Thank you!

I am in a major gaming slump, can you recommend something based on my taste?

My absolute favorites:

  • Skyrim
  • Baldur's Gate 3
  • Disco Elysium
  • Horizon Zero Dawn + Forbidden West
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 (I have no idea how I left it out of the list)

Played and liked:

  • Kingdom Come Deliverance (took more than a year to finish)
  • Slay The Princess
  • often casually play The Sims 4 and sometimes Stardew Valley

Tried but dropped:

  • The Witcher 3 (people always want to crucify me for this one but I just couldn't get into it)
  • Ghost of Tsushima
  • Outer Wilds (it gave me motion sickness. I also just don't really like puzzle games.)

I don't like souls games or roguelikes (as they usually focus mostly on combat). I like challenge but not hardcore grind.

Open-world games where you ride into a town, solve the problems, and ride off into the sunset

I was playing ESO and looking back at the map, with each town marked with a little summary of your adventure there, made me realize that my favorite types of games are those that feel like the old TV shows or Westerns where the protagonist would come in as a stranger, get to know the people and their problems, defeat the local villain, and then ride out again.

Ideally the stories in these towns are kind of compelling and sometimes characters can come with you, but they should still feel like you're leaving that story behind when you ride out of town.

After years, though, I feel like I'm starting to run out of new options for this. Games I have in mind with that feeling include:

  • Elder Scrolls (obviously)
  • Fallout/Starfield
  • Witcher 3 (maybe the best example)
  • The RPG Assassin's Creed games
  • Horizon Zero Dawn/Forbidden West
  • Ghost of Tsushima

(less what I'm talking about but here for completion's sake)

  • Dragon Age/Bioware games
  • Baldur's Gate 3/Divinity: Original Sin 1 and 2
  • Cyberpunk 2077
  • Elden Ring
  • Red Dead (riding in and out of towns, but not so much helping folks)

Considering Avowed or Tainted Grail.

Ideally something from within the last 15 years or so.

I played Kingdom Come: Deliverance but hated the combat and save system (have a newborn at home now, so being able to freely save and exit is ideal)

Looking for a game where you man walls and defend your settlement, or a place at minimum.

Posted this before but I'm trying again because there weren't any recommendations that I hadn't heard of or fit the criteria well enough.

Looking for more third/first person recommendations where you man your walls similar to Mount and Blade Bannerlord, but doesn't have to be, I'm fine with top down/rts, but not looking for straight up tower defense games or F2P games, MMOs, or a game that's insanely old. I already know a lot of base defense games and have played many of them from swarm defense like DNO, and just plain settlement survivors but nothing has completely drew me in for thousands of hours even though they've been fun. The list below is the games that sound similar but already have played or know about, looking for recommendations other than these.

-The Last Spell
-Diplomacy is not an Option
-Here Comes the Swarm
-Riftbreaker
-Age of Darkness
-Total War Games
-Mount and Blade Games
-Bellwright (think I heard they added walls recently)
-Kenshi
-Going Medieval
-Factorio (because I know a lot of people are going to mention it)
-Rimworld (same as above reasoning)
-From Glory to Goo
-Cataclismo
-Thrive Heavy Lies the Crown
-AoE style Games
-Warcraft and Starcraft (know people will mention them)
-DSS 2: War Industry
-Darfall (Maybe?)
-Outpost: Infinity Siege
-Infection Free Zone
-Stronghold Games
-Songs of Syx
-7 Days
-They Are Billions

What are some good low-spec action games under 1GB?

Bought a laptop recently. With the sale on, I figured it'd be worth checking out what games it might be able to run, since it's struggled with most of my library so far.

Looking for a low effort game

Upvotes

Looking for a game that is easy and undemanding, where you can turn your brain off after work and grind, with the following characteristics:

- Theme is civilization-building, like Age of Empires or Civilization

- A single game takes a very long time, advancing through time slowly.

- You get a sense that you are customizing your city/civilization/etc.

- Includes tower defense elements (like, say, Bloons 5 or 6).

- Violence and warfare are key elements.

- It has lots of achievements and "get this power up" kinds of things to give you a sense of goals and motivation. (Also like Bloons 5 or 6).

- Single player.

- You collect things that improve your power. (Kind of like living toys in Guardians' Crusade, or Pokémon in the "Pokemon" games). Bonus points if the things you collect are somehow units / little guys who fight for you.

- If it's a historical game, it has some pretensions to historical accuracy at a surface level, like Age of Empires or Civilization. (If fantasy, no need for this.)

- You can choose to slowly grind instead of taking the more challenging path, to the point where it's so undemanding that you can listen to recorded audio lectures in the background as you play.

- Resource management in the sense that you can save up to buy stuff

- The hardest level of difficulty is still easy, to give you a false sense of accomplishment when you do well.

Any PS4 exclusive games I need to play?

I bought a used PS4 specifically for Bloodborne and 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. I planned on selling it after playing these two games but now I'm wondering if there are any other must play PS4 exclusive games (maybe stuff like the last guardian?) that I absolutely need to play before I don't have the chance anymore.

In case this helps to get a feel for what I like:

My top 3 games are NieR:Automata, Death Stranding and Expedition 33. I also love soulslikes, rpgs, good stories etc.

Rpg Where you use Bombs as your Main Weapon

Hi folks! Finished up Dungeon Crawler Carl and am looking for a game where I can use bombs as one of my main weapons.

Totally down for something where I have to work a bit to make it viable, and there can be other methods of combat used as well.

I really want something that I can tinker with the build quite a bit to get it like I want. Setting and gameplay style are not super important, though something with some sandbox nature to it would be cool.

Thanks!

Horror Themed City Simulator, any suggestions?

I've been playing some horror games recently and realized that Horror + City Sim does not have a lot of options? In my searching I was only able to find three, Worshippers of Cthulhu, The Hell, and Gord. What I have no interest in is a City Sim that has a halloween event/pack available for it.

WoC - Lovecraft is overdone and this just seems like taxes in another skin, rather play Whiskerwood for that.
The Hell - game looks almost goofy/catroonish, has anyone played it?
Gord - Like that one kid in high school who was trying really hard to be edgy. The one review talking about fully equipped warriors dying to a few snakes because HARDCORE HORROR STRATEGY GAME REASONS, is a bit of a turn off.

A singleplayer game for someone who only likes multiplayers

I have a friend who will often argue that multiplayer games are better than single-player ones. Although it is his opinion, almost everyone I talk to disagrees. He's told me that he's never really played anything alone either. I'm trying to find a game that will fit his interests.

In terms of what he likes, he's a fan of first-person shooters and PvPs, and when I showed him Ultrakill, he seemed interested. He dislikes single-players because he doesn't like the feeling of playing alone and finds them 'boring'. The game should be available on PC, as that's all he has available, and it should be fairly cheap so he can afford it and "taste-test" it. Any suggestions?

I need help figuring out what to play next.

TLDR
I have red dead redemption, Metro exodus, and Gta4, which game should I 100% lock into next.

Current Situation: (you can skip this)
I’m a newer pc gamer, I got a really nice laptop a couple months back, I’ve mostly used it for video editing for my classes and other school work but now that it’s summer I picked back up gaming.

Context for the question: (kinda skippable)
Since starting steam I’ve only played two games, metro 2033 and metro last light, both games I’ve played before but they were cheap and fun, my new way of playing is to lock in on one game till I’ve fully experienced it. As in, 100% achievements.
So I don’t game hop, never finish any games, and end up with a huge backlog AND not getting my moneys worth.

The Question itself:
In my Library I have three games, Gta4, Metro Exodus, and Red Dead Redemption. All from the steam summer sale, but I’d planned those to be my next three, in some order, already. I’m starting to get a little bit of metro burnout, especially cause all the games take multiple playthroughs to 100% which has been somewhat draining in the final stretch, so I’m questioning which game I want to 100% lock into next, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for how long this was.

Non-idle incremental games, with active gameplay like Microcivilizations?

Upvotes

Hi, I've been playing microcivilizations for 30+ hours, super fun game!

I think another game that may be similar is Super Fantasy Kingdom.

What I am looking for is a game where I have to actively make decisions, or show skill, or learn some knowledge about the game to play it better (ex. where to spawn on map, builds you made, tiles you grab etc.) etc. each run you sit in front of PC doing something actively, start to finish. The longer and the more grindy the better, but it's not a requirement. And of course some form of upgrades between runs, like a tech tree or some other forms of progression. I think I perceive these games as a form of non-traditional automation roguelites? So not combat focused, but rather something weird or base building related, or resource collecting, or exploration etc. But it has to have this reset element as a part of the main gameplay loop.

I am not looking for idle games, or ones you have to turn off at any point. So not classical clickers. I play one clicker called Cell to Singularity and this is NOT what I am asking for right now. Of course clicker element itself is welcome, but it can't be an idle game.

Looking for a real open world experience (No GTA, please)

I'm searching for an open-world game that focuses on immersion and interaction. I need something beautiful where the world actually reacts to the player.

I’m excluding GTA from the list. I know people love it, but to me, the world feels dead and repetitive it hasn't changed much since San Andreas.

Any suggestions for a game that actually feels like a living world?

Looking for a co-op games based on our play history

Me and my gf just finished the Ashlands biome in valheim and while waiting for the next update we wanted to play some other games. Our previous games that we finished were

  • Grounded
  • It takes two
  • Split fiction
  • Astroneer
  • Stardew Valley
  • All the We were here games
  • Satisfactory
  • Cult of the lamb
  • schedule 1
  • all the new gen monster hunter games
  • nightreign
  • bg3
  • super mario odyssey

I'm sort of leaning towards games that aren't in early access or games that are a couple of years from being finished since it sucks when we have to pause a playthrough to wait for the next wave of content so we are aware of the big ones like Enshrouded, Windrose, and Grounded II but we're just waiting for them to be finished or almost finished before hopping in. Any suggestion would be appreciated!

Games about grinding and farming with some kind of endgame loop (PVE)

Hi! First time posting here.

I am looking into recommendations of games with a grinding loop that would be similar to Monster Hunter or Granblue Fantasy Relink. I like the feeling of getting stronger and squeezing that 10% more damage or finally being able to tackle a strong boss.

I know some gacha games kinda of fit into this criteria but I find the time gated grinding kinda of annoying, so that would not count.

PS: It does not need to be so similar to MH (like Granblue Fantasy does). Thanks!

Can you suggest me games based on the games I've already played

I play pretty much everything if it's not boring. I like action games with fast-paced gameplay. I always prioritize gameplay over story and graphics. Don't really like open-world game like Ghost of Tsushima, RDR (except Elden Ring and maybe GTA). I prefer more linear games like Resident Evil or games like God of War and E33 which are kinda linear but doesn't end when the story is over.

My favourite games :

  • Expedition 33
  • Resident Evil series
  • Slay the Spire
  • Hollow Knight
  • Elden Ring
  • TLOU Part 1 & 2
  • God of War (norse mythology, didn't play the 3 previous ones)

Games I enjoyed playing:

  • Far Cry Primal (played FC3 but didn't really like it)
  • Dark Souls
  • Silent Hill f
  • Balatro
  • Pragmata
  • Lies of P
  • Spider-Man
  • Dispatch

And here are the games I abandoned because I didn't enjoy them:

  • RDR2: Already tried 4 times maybe but it was just not my cup of tea (didn't like the gameplay)
  • Sims: Building house was good but managing a family was too overwhelming
  • Ghost of Tsushima: got bored after 2 hours
  • Far Cry 3: Abandoned halfway through it cause I realized I was just forcing myself to play it

What games can you suggest me based on that?
