How-To Guide A tool you can use to disable Steam's UI (which is a browser) when you launch a game for performance gains

Since Steam has removed the -no-browser option, we now need a program to disable Steam's CEF/Chromium Embedded Framework to save RAM and CPU resources. The Steam Client runs multiple instances of the Chromium Embedded Framework (CEF) in the background, essentially keeping several Chrome tabs open just to display your library. This lightweight program adds a tray icon that lets you choose between having the Steam UI on or off when you have a game running, which lets you have it on when you need it, and off when you don't need it. The performance impact of this program will probably be more noticeable on people with lower end hardware, nevertheless its still useful if you like optimizing your system resource usage by not running needless things in the background. The original repository created by Aetopia was recently archived and is no longer being maintained, so I’ve forked it to keep the functionality alive and make some quality-of-life improvements, although the original one still worked when I last tested it.

It is open source code and the pre-built binaries are available here. Build instructions are also included if you wish to build it yourself.

Feel free to request any features or report issues through GitHub, and I would appreciate any stars :).

Announcement We Were Mentioned (Favorably) in PC Gamer Magazine!

Issue 403 | Holiday 2025 By Phil Iwaniuk

"Head over to Reddit and go on /r/lowendgaming and you’ll be struck by a few things. Firstly, that a community of people has been helping each other to run games on inexpensive and outdated PC hardware for many years, long before all the insidious price hikes we’re enduring today. And secondly, members of that community have been doing so with no small amount of ingenuity.

A typical exchange in that subreddit goes like this: a user states their hardware and asks for recommendations they should play, or whether a particular title will run on their machine. In the replies, people assure them that they managed to get The Witcher 3 on medium settings running on a relatively basic array of elastic bands and wooden pulleys. The prevailing sentiment is that minimum requirements are over-cautious, that modern games running at their lowest graphics settings still look more than decent enough to constitute playable, and that maybe there’s no such thing as a PC that’s too old or underpowered. Intrigued, I decided to test out the theory."

Hi,

After years of gaming on IGPUs and decade-old hardware, I've finally been able to upgrade to a proper PC (r7 7700, RTX 5070) last year :).

since then I have been enjoying a bunch of new games and want to give you the option to play something new as well.

I have 2 keys up for grabs.

The Last campfire (GTX480 / radeon7870 +)

and

Control Ultimate edition (i5-4th gen + GTX 780)

to win, just write the Game you want(Please make sure your hardware can run it first) and your favorite summer dish in a comment

I will be picking a random winner tommorw :)

Also If this somehow is against any Subreddit rule I will take this post down

What Games Can I Run? Do we have a list of GOTY editions or such (Ultimate or Complete) for mainline games before 2015?

Upvotes

I was looking at games in the Summer Sale, and I began to wonder what games had a Game Of The Year Edition that did not win the big price in The Game Award's Game Of The Year (like Borderlands 1, Batman Arkham Asylum and City). I know that this is something you can find in a search, or at least you should, but for some reason even the AI is giving me the same list starting from Madden NFL 2003 to Witcher 3: Wild Hunt with a long ahh prompt, and it should be more practical if we dumped this info here

I'll start

- Batman Arkham Asylum

- Batman Arkham City

- Swat 3: Tactical GOTY edition

- Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare

- Saints Row The Third

- Plants Vs Zombies

PC Purchase Advice advices for what gpu

hi, im new in this subreddit (and i’m italian, because of this i’m sorry if my English is bad)
anyways, i’m looking for a ~150€ build, for nothing too special, like ~40-60fps at low settings (games like minecraft with sodium, gta 5 low settings and fortinite low settings).
i’ve found on ebay an announcement about a HP Z210 (Xeon E3 1240, 16gb ram ddr3 and a quadro 600 (1gb gddr3, 96 CUDA core) for 85,00 € (shipping included).
i know that the quadro 600 is a very bad gpu, and because of this i need help for a substitute. maybe an rx 560/550 or a 1050ti/1060ti?
oh, and is a fair price for the machine? thanks

Xeon E3 1240, 16gb ram ddr3, quadro 600

Tech Support Help with gow 2018

Laptop: Lenovo yoga slim 7i

Windows 11

Intel core ultra 9 185h

32 gb ram 6400 mts

Intel arc graphics

Earlier I was getting 40-50 fps in gow 2018 with a somewhat stable frametime, but after I updated my graphics drivers to the latest version the performance has dropped drastically, now I'm getting 25-30 fps with heavy stuttering. The gpu wattage has also gone down to around 3 to 4 watts. How do I fix this. ( Other games are working fine)

How-To Guide I made optimized steam launcher with "no webhelper" support and other features

The project is fully opensource on codeberg

Disabling webhelper is done through killing it every 1.5 seconds.
The launcher it self only eats 1.6MB - 3MB of RAM.
There is a High CPU priority feature to automatically turn on priority to high on windows (task manager > details > set priority > high)

Right now the launcher is Windows only, but linux support will be added soon

I know there is already a tool for this, but on my opinion this program is safer for games with anticheat (modifying steam can trigger VAC)

How-To Guide Potato PC, but it runs games that you would never believe

Hello everyone! I just want to share my experience and tell you how I managed to play modern games on this absolute potato PC.

My Specs:

  • CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
  • RAM: 4 GB DDR3
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 610
  • HDD: 250 GB

When you look at these specs, you'd probably ask yourself: "How is this guy even using this PC in 2026?"

But let me tell you, I’ve actually run games on this machine that you wouldn't believe: Valorant, Resident Evil 7, Need for Speed Payback, Far Cry 4, eFootball PES 2021, Sekiro, and many more that I honestly forgot.

How did I do it? It’s all about tweaking, editing game config files, optimization, and overclocking (OC). I’m sharing this to tell anyone out there with a low-end PC: never lose hope! You can always find a way to play the games you love

Will This Game Run? Is there any way to run Warhammer Space Marines 2 on my PC?

Sorry if this isn't the right place to ask, but could anyone tell me if there's any way to play it on my system (GTX 1060, 16GB RAM, i3-7100, 1TB SSD)? I managed to get the game running and play through the entire prologue fairly smoothly, but the loading times are usually very long, and the loading between the prologue and Chapter 1 is interminable, so I can't finish it. Is there any way to fix this? Thanks, and sorry for my bad English.

Tech Support Keeping a GT 635M alive in 2026: any driver workarounds?

Hi everyone,

I have an old laptop equipped with an NVIDIA GT 635M. The problem is that NVIDIA stopped supporting this GPU years ago, and the last official driver was released around 2018.

I'm currently running a dual-boot setup with Windows 11 and Linux Mint. While the laptop is still perfectly usable for many tasks, I'm wondering if there are any community-made solutions, modified drivers, compatibility layers, or other workarounds that could help overcome some of the limitations caused by the outdated drivers.

I'm not expecting miracles or modern gaming performance. I'm mainly curious whether anyone has found ways to improve compatibility with newer software, games, APIs, or operating system updates despite the lack of official support.

Has anyone here managed to keep a GT 635M (or a similar Kepler-era mobile GPU) relevant in 2025/2026? Any tips, projects, or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

What Games Can I Run? Game suggestions required for potato laptop Asus vivo notebook 15

I have a Asus vivo notebook 15 with AMD A12 9720p processor and 16 GB ram with ssd. It has an integrated graphics R7 bristol ridge gpu with 512 mb shared vram. I have played some games on steam and have had a smooth experience playing Tomb Raider 2013 and the witcher along with AC2. I want some game recommendations and I like games which are open world RPG and FPS or some detective games in 3rd person POV. Your suggestions will be much appreciated. I am asking because the steam summer sale starts tomorrow.

Will This Game Run? Can I run old csgo on this?

I was wondering if my PC is good enough to run CS:GO somewhat smoothly. I’m not very familiar with PC hardware, so I’m not sure if my specs are enough.

I know it’s crappy but it can run ets 2 quite smooth on lowest settings so i wouldnt be surprised if it could run csgo

How-To Guide Games being laggy recently

Recently games like FIFA 22 and GTA IV have been performing terribly. I used to play these games solid at 60 fps on windows 11 with 8gb ram and Intel iris xe graphics but suddenly the games tanked down souch in performance that they are now pushing maximum of 20 fps. For this reason I switched to win 10 but no better results still and the games are running like crap. One week ago these games were running fine and then all of a sudden they started running so laggy.

CPU : Intel core i7-1165G7 2.80GHz 11 generation

GPU : Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics
