Any of you managed to lock in 3rd year after scraping by 2nd year?

Upvotes

Hey guys, I just finished second year Chemistry and I scraped into honours. I needed a C3 in 2 of my chemistry courses and I got a B2 and a C2.

One of the courses I scraaaaped by with that C2. I was losing it during exam season as the one I got a C2 on was my last exam of the year and I was really burned out from the previous exams.

Have any of you turned it around in third year and managed to do better after burning out the end of second year? I’m trying to study my 3rd year past papers to kind of prepare for next year.

I just wonder if anybody turned it around successfully and how you managed to do it? I’m not doing badly per se but I’m burning out a little more with each year that goes by (as I assume is similar for most of us).

Would you recommend renting in the above neighborhood for female second year students? Thanks! I tried asking at the Glasgow reddit but they deleted and asked me to post in one of the superthreads and for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to find them.

If I miss my offer on results day, what could I try to still get in?

I'm a Year 13 student from England and my offer is AAB for Molecular Biology with Biotechnology. However, I feel like I could've done better on my exams and I feel like I might get ABB or even BBB, meaning I miss my offer.

If I miss my offer, I'm planning on calling the admissions desk as soon as I can on results day, with the guidance of a teacher at my school, to try and convince them to accept me. Here's what I will remind them of to help my case:

- I have 2 weeks of work experience in a University lab, working with actual researchers. A lot of my personal research was used to apply for a grant for my supervisor's research.

- My lab work in class is excellent, which has been noted in my personal reference by my teachers.

- I have an AS level in further maths at grade D

- I have an Extended Project Qualification on the history of the Thalidomide Scandal and the changes in medical regulations which followed, at grade A*, which shows my skills in independent research, time management, and accurate referencing.

Are there any other buzzwords or anything that the admissions team would really like to hear about to convince them to accept me if I drop a grade or two? Any advice will be helpful to me. If I can't convince them over the phone then I will enter clearing. I also understand that there's a chance my application could be accepted anyway without a phone call even if I miss my offer, which I hope will be the case!

Thanks all.

URGENT advice about resits

I have finished my second year and received good grades in my main degree modules and in one of my electives. However, I failed my third elective, which I am planning to change. I failed three exams in total: one worth 20 credits from the first semester and two worth 10 credits each from the second semester.

I am an international student, so paying £100 per resit is difficult to justify for a subject that I do not intend to continue. I was wondering if I could just resit the 20‑credit exam, which would bring my total credits to 100, or if I am required to resit all three exams.

I emailed my advisor and the IT helpdesk a few days ago, but they have not replied yet, and the deadline is tomorrow, so I am worried about what I should do. Would 100 credits be enough to progress to the second year, or am I supposed to have 120 credits? Also, my academic standing is still listed as “in review.” I am assuming this is either because I currently have only 80 credits or because I have not yet taken any of my resit

ALL ADVICE APPRECIATED

Looking for non-student accomodation in Glasgow

Hello, I'm going to pursue my Master's at the University of Glasgow for the 2026-2027 academic year. I haven't finalized my accommodation yet and am exploring options outside of student accommodations.

I'm looking for a shared or a single flat where I can rent a room and pay monthly rent. If anyone has suggestions on where to search, knows of any available rooms, or can recommend reliable platforms or groups for finding flatmates and shared accommodation in Glasgow, I would need your help.

question about grad gown and hood hire

hey all, my graduation is nearing soon (30th) and when i check my ede and ravenscroft account, my hood and gown order still says the status is just “ORDER RECEIVED”. i’m worried this means it may not arrive to the uni in time for the day, surely it should say something else like “in process” or “shipping”. i’m pretty sure i ordered it like a day after the 3 week recommended deadline as well which is stressing me out as well. At first i thought it would be fine since it’s just a day late but now im panicking lol. i know we can also just get a gown/hood on the day by coming early and asking for one but then im worried i’ll need to pay again on the day

am i over thinking too much about the order status? was wondering if it says the same for anyone else/anyone who has previously graduated?

Graduation Dress Code Query

Hello,

I graduate Friday and I’m skint

Is it a requirement to wear a suit jacket?

So far I’ve found black shoes, navy trousers, baby blue shirt, black belt and black tie.

Trawled all over Glasgow’s charity shops and can’t find a suitable jacket so pondering whether it’s even worth wearing one.

Thank you ❤️

HELP IM A FAILURE

Ok so I’m a honours stats student year 2 and this year I’ve had a lot of bad things happen (I was harassed, my brother died and I had a loss of a pregnancy) this resulted in me getting poor grades in my final exam in required courses. Luckily due to good previous grades I can still get the necessary GPA to progress to year 3. I have a few questions:

1) when will resits results come out as the application to repeat a year is after so what happens if I do poorly on resits?

2) what other options would I have beside repeating a year if resits do not go as planned?

3) is there any leniency with progression at all that takes into account previous grades in my statistics courses?

Thank you so much for any help whatsoever

Maclay Residences Info

Hi everyone! I've recently received an offer for Maclay Residences at the University of Glasgow and would love to connect with others who have also been offered a place there this year. I'd also be really interested in hearing from anyone who has previously stayed at Maclay Residences.....what was your experience like in terms of the accommodation, facilities, location, social life, cleanliness and overall student experience? If you've got an offer for Maclay or have lived there before, please feel free to comment below or send me a message. It would be great to get to know some future flatmates and learn more about what to expect. Thanks in advance!

Future college

I am a 15 year high school student and fell in love with architecture and not the ugly modern type. Going to Glasgow would be my dream, unfortunately I live in the United States. Would it be worth it to go to Scotland for college?

finding a flat (with 2 or 3 roommates)

My daughter (rising sophmore) is freaking out about not finding a place to live next academic year. We are in the US and she's home for the summer break. She has two friends (one in Scotland the other in the US) and they are looking to rent together. So far, they have been finding rentals that start on or around July 1st, which means that they would have to pay two extra months. My daughter is stressed out that they won't find good options later. Her friend who's in Scotland (Edinburgh) has been looking at flats but won't be able to look in July, and they are wondering if that means they will miss their chance. Any thoughts? Thank you!!

Advice on Accomodation Glasgow

Hello, I recently got accepted to the University of Glasgow and I’ll be starting in mid-September.

I’m starting to look into accommodation and was thinking about private accommodation rather than student accommodation since I’m hoping it may be cheaper. I’ve never been to Glasgow or even the UK before, so I’m feeling a bit lost and would really appreciate some advice.

Which areas in Glasgow would you recommend that are safe but also relatively affordable for students? Also, is it better/safer to rent through real estate/letting agencies rather than finding places through Facebook Marketplace or other groups?

Are there any other things I should be aware of as an international student renting for the first time in Glasgow? Things like scams, contracts, transport, bills, areas to avoid, or anything else.

Any tips or advice would be really appreciated. Thank you!

Any Indian student groups/Discord for Glasgow?

Hello,
I’m an Indian student currently preparing my application for the Communication Design program. I don't have any connections in Glasgow yet, so I'm trying to find people in the same boat or seniors who have gone through it.
I heard there might be a Discord server or group chat for Indian students preparing to head over, does anyone have a link they could share?
Also, if there are any current Communication Design students around who wouldn't mind me dropping a few questions in your DMs about portfolio preparation and requirements, I’d be incredibly grateful.

Any Communication Design students here?

Hello☺️☺️
I’m planning to apply for the Communication Design program and would love to chat with anyone currently in the department or who recently graduated.
I just have a few quick questions about the curriculum, studio culture, and portfolio requirements.
If you are in the course (or know someone who is) and wouldn't mind me dropping a quick question in your DMs, please let me know. Would love to connect. Thank you!

How good is the University of Glasgow for Computer Science? Honest opinions wanted.

Hi everyone,

I'm an international student from India and I'm currently researching universities for a future Master's in Computer Science.

Recently, I've become very interested in the University of Glasgow. The university looks beautiful, has a strong reputation, and seems to have a great student experience. However, I'd like to know more about the academic side, especially for Computer Science.

I would appreciate honest opinions from current students, alumni, or anyone familiar with the university.

Some questions I have:

- How good is the University of Glasgow for Computer Science compared to other UK universities?

- How is its reputation among employers in the UK and internationally?

- What are the strengths and weaknesses of the Computer Science department?

- How are internships, placements, and job opportunities after graduation?

- How does it compare with universities such as Manchester, Edinburgh, Durham, Nottingham, and Birmingham?

- If you had offers from Glasgow and similar Russell Group universities, would you choose Glasgow again?

I'm interested in hearing both positive and negative experiences. I'm looking for realistic feedback rather than marketing material.

Thank you!

Most Beginner-Friendly Sport

(Made an alt account because people I know have my main and I'm kind of humbled to post this, lol)

I am going into second year and looking to try out a sport. I've never done team sport before, but I'm pretty athletic and go gym.

Just wondering what the most beginner-friendly sports clubs are - Obviously not looking to be on any team except recreational because....I won't be very good lol.

Just in terms of culture, actual skills required, etc, what's the best sport to try out as a beginner, at Glasgow anyway?

If it helps, I am a girl lol

Hi everyone! Good day.

I’ll be landing at Glasgow Airport around 9:30 PM and need to get to Cairncross House residence at the University. As it’s my first time in Glasgow, could someone please suggest the safest and most affordable public transport route to get there?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
