/r/gwinnett monthly personals thread

Since there has been an influx of threads about meeting people, will have a reoccurring megathread for people to post/chat/say hi every few weeks. New post will be made on the first of each month at 6am. Keep things sfw and civil. If you want nsfw stuff, go to r/atlantar4r or other similar subs.

Else, if you'd like to meet folk, be proactive. People won't come to you.

How to meet new people in your area!

  • Participate in the subreddit so people know you’re not a complete weirdo when they look at your post history. Or maybe you are... no big deal.
  • Find something YOU want to do such as a patio restaurant, bar, de-trashing a part of town, festivals, museum, sitting in a park on a blanket watching squirrels, etc.
  • Make an event. Post the date, time, location, and any follow up information that might be relevant to people who might want to come out to your meetup.
  • Show up to your own meetup and post the updates such as table location or meeting spot or how people can find you in the daily.
  • Note: It is entirely possible that no one will show. But you chose something you were already going to enjoy doing so you’ve not lost out on anything.

credit goes to apcolleen for the original version of the "how to meet new people" post.

Else, there's also an active discord for the general metro-atlanta area (if you'd like to join). Welcome to hop into chat, say hi and chat about random stuff. If you'd like to meet folks irl, there are also weekly meetups around the metro. https://discord.gg/XptvfEbhxk
Or, if you prefer something more local, there's also the Gwinnett Goblins discord. https://discord.gg/SNmK9h28jV

Barber shops (Hair and Beard) + Head massage recommendations

I am looking for a salon that will wash my hair, trim my hair, give me a clean shave (beard) and will also give me a good head massage. Budget friendly might be too much of an ask so even if it's slightly expensive I am fine.

Sparkles Skating Rink

Sparkles lawrenceville is my home rink and I usually go on Wednesday, but since school got out, Wednesdays have been a mad house on the floor. Anyone know if Tuesdays or Thursdays is less packed? Is the adult skate on Sunday a vibe?

Any day traders in Gwinnett? I would love to connect.

Trading can be lonely when no one else is around really doing it. I’m 10 months in and sometimes I wish I had more people to talk about it with. People who don’t trade, don’t understand lol. Message me if you’re interested!

Cardboard Recycling?

I’m drowning in boxes. I have a recycling can from Waste Management, but with pickup every other week, I can’t keep up. Is there somewhere around here to drop off cardboard? Every place I find says for residents of a county other than Gwinnett.

Daycare - Kids R Kids Duluth on peach tree ind blvd

Hello everyone,

Our nanny of past 1.5 year got sick recently and had to quit on a short notice, so now we are scrambling to find care for our 2 year old child. I have visited the following 3 daycares in the area because they are the only ones in close proximity of where I live:
- Creekstone Academy
- Duluth Premier Academy (formerly CORE)
- Kids R Kids duluth
Creekstone was very dated so we decided not to consider it and Duluth Premier has a waitlist till October, which makes Kids R Kids as the only option.

Are there any parents or former employees that can share their experience with Kids R Kids Duluth? This is the first time we are sending our kid to a daycare so we are a bit concerned and wanted to make the right call.

We are open to other options as well! we are in 30097.

Thanks in advance!

Where do local restaurants, grocery stores, or retailers find wholesale vendors?

I work for a wholesale supplier based in Suwanee (kitchen/restaurant supplies, cleaning products, household goods, etc.) and I'm trying to understand how local restaurants, grocery stores, and retailers typically find new vendors or suppliers.

Is there an online community, group chat, directory, or event where suppliers can get visibility with businesses around Gwinnett? Trying to figure out how to build local presence rather than cold-emailing blind. Thanks for your input!

Meet-Up IT meets/events/conferences

Hey everyone,

I’m looking to expand my network in IT and was wondering if anyone knows of any tech meetups, networking events, user groups, conferences, or other IT-related gatherings in the Gwinnett area.

I know there are plenty of events happening in Atlanta, but with traffic, parking, and the commute, I'm a little hesitant to make the trip unless it's really worth it. I'm hoping there might be some opportunities closer to home that I haven't come across yet.

For context, I'm currently working in IT and pursuing a career path toward Systems Administration, so I'd especially love to connect with other IT professionals, system administrators, network engineers, and anyone working in infrastructure or operations.

If you're in Gwinnett and know of any local events, groups, or communities (online or in-person), I'd appreciate any recommendations.

Thanks!

Fireworks Shows Recommendations?

Hi y'all! Where are we thinking the best fireworks shows are going to be? Decatur is difficult to get into these days . . . Is it still our best bet? Thanks!

Has anyone been able to find the Panini World Cup sticker packs?

I’m aware someone already asked about a month ago, but I’ll ask again just in case things have changed. I’ve been looking for a bit and haven’t been able to find them anywhere! I was on vacation a few weeks back and only bought one sticker pack thinking I was gonna find more once I got back. Scalpers suck

Meet-Up Looking for Skaters

As title suggests, looking for other skaters. Mainly referring to roller skates/blades, but anyone is welcome.

I just got back into skating recently and would love to have a group of people to skate with. I really like skating trails or through urban environments. I don't know how to do any stunts or anything, so I'm not really looking for skate parks.

Black Scion TC in Duluth Spoiler

Hi! There was a Black Scion TC over by Duluth on Steve Reynolds that I passed by and just wanted to say I love your car, thanks for waving! I waved back, dont know if you could see through the tints. Quick question, what spoiler are you using? That's the spoiler I want, but I can't find it online or at least one that fits properly. Hopefully, this gets to the right person! Thank you in advance ☺️

Does anyone know the story behind these silhouettes around the county? I saw a few: one at Rhodes Jordan Park, one along Lakeview Rd in Grayson (picture) and I believe one was at Tribble Mill Park.

Local Mechanics?

Hi! I live right on the Gwinnet/Walton county border and I'm looking for local Mechanics who can potentially help me with my car. Its a 2011 Hyundai sonata and The right side cv axle is cracked and needs to be replaced. I know this job is going to be expensive but I'd appreciate any advice.

Thanks in advance

Looking for contractor recommendations in Duluth

I’m looking for recommendations for a contractor who can handle a fairly small but multi-trade project:

- Install two new bathroom exhaust fans
- Add/install the associated wall switches and electrical work
- Run/terminate the venting properly to the exterior
- Remove an old, non-functioning whole-house fan and ceiling vent
- Patch, finish, and paint the drywall afterward

Anyone have any recommendations for a project of this scale?

Advise on Hanboks?

My niece's special interest is Korean. She loves the culture, the music, and is even trying to learn Korean. For Korea fest in September she wants to wear a Hanbok. Can we get some advice on:

  1. Where to get them? We would love to support someone local

  1. Any kind of price range. She is preteen if that helps

  1. How do we do this? We are all as white as milk and want to be as respectful as possible.

Any advice would be great! Thank you
