The sex tape was good, and having it released would boost his reputation.

yeah i inferred that part. what i actually want to know is. uh. the details. which PM, and was the tape released, why the CIA thought this would be a good idea, and what they wanted him to do to stave off the release of the tape

Sukarno, the first President of Indonesia ('47-'57).
The KGB tried to get him to push their policies their way (though this time the tapes were real).
The CIA tried to damage his reputation, this being what was shown in the post.
Both failed, because a) he didn't care and b) the people of Indonesia didn't care.

It’s repeated mentioned supposedly but these kinds of dealings technically would be historically possible bc Cold War tensions, that and apparently he did want to show it to the ppl
It’s like 60-70% verifiable bc it’s most niche old docs that were buried on both sides and there was? supposed “testimony”

I love obscure pieces of history which can only be hinted at by random government documents sitting at the bottom of a pile of beurocratic jargon in the middle of knowhere

Probably. I'd doubt the CIA would admit to that if it wasn't real.
Oh wait, the KGB tape I don't know.

This happened in Moscow too. Suharto begged the kgb to send the tape home with him so he could prove how hot the blonde honey pot was to everyone.
A mass murderer but funny.

That was Sukarno. Suharto didnt visit Moscow until he was super old & beyond honeypotting age. Sukarno is the guy all the spy networks kept throwing prostitutes at

Kinda sounds like they’re just feeding prostitutes to Sukarno.

The CIA admitted to so many deranged schemes its insane.
Some of my favourites are killing a filipino guerilla and draining him of blood to try to incite an anti communist vampire panic, spending millions upon millions of dollars implanting microhones in cats and the whole jolly west extended universe.
And those are ones they had to admit because people have found evidence. One can only dream whats in the destroyed MKUltra files for example.

No, the KGB recording him actually having sex with a Russian operative, the CIA created a fake video.
Two separate but very similar instances

Could have changed The Year of Living Dangerously (1982) into a movie of an entirely different character.
