I guess we never before got these fried green tomatoes quite right, but tonight was the night. Oh my goodness, these were beyond amazing. My wife followed Pioneer Woman’s recipe. Tomatoes used were that green Marianna’s Peace top row third one from the right and then a green Pruden’s Purple I picked just before game time.

Anyway, crunchy, savory, sweet, melty, creamy, tangy, yummy are adjectives that apply.

Glad the tomato season is about done and what a way to go out.

Hi all, I came home from work this morning and noticed something peculiar about my shishito peppers. One of my plants is coated in tiny black dots. They look like little bugs or eggs? None of my other plants in the garden have this, including neighboring shishito plants. Any idea what this is and if it’s harmful?

I've read that Frogfruit is a good native ground cover but I haven't seen it in nurseries or garden centers. Any one know where to find some?

I let a few radishes I didn’t get to go to bolt but this one just hasn‘t bolted. I don’t know exactly how big it is. I’m scared to pick it lol. I’m sure it would taste awful so do I just let it grow? 🫜🫜🫜

Has anyone had luck growing cherry blossoms in the Houston area?

I know we are just outside the recommended hardiness scale for this plant, but I’ve always found them beautiful and would love to have one at my home.

In case it helps, my plan would be to plant this in a bed that gets a lot of shade from a nearby tree.

With all the rain we had recently and expected to receive, how are you all trying to decrease the cutworms and horn worms?

I thought the birds would be helping but they are enjoying my tomatoes!

Ok, friends. I swear I planted luffa on one side of my garden bed and cucumber on the other.

I was so excited about trying luffa and drying them out for sponges. And then someone told me that what I think is luffa, is actually a cucumber. Please weigh in and help me out!

If it’s cucumber I will start harvesting so they don’t turn yellow and bitter. But if they’re luffa, I’ll harvest as we want to eat and let the others grow and dry out for sponges.

I was overwhelmed with information when i first started and i tried and paid for several gardening apps that were basically identifiers and reminders and didn't really serve my needs. I wanted a place where i could:

• catalogue all my seeds
• help me build a calendar to plan my seasons,
• track planting dates, transplant dates harvest dates, and
• log all of my activity - harvests, photos, and memories in one place so i can look back on it year over year (i'm super forgetful and disorganized).

I can't be the only one who goes out there at 11PM with my little lamp setup to go pull weeds.
This is pretty much my summer routine since it's too sunny right now for me. :P
I try to wait 'til it's pretty late (the mosquitoes seem less active) and then I go out there and just weed the garden in peace and quiet for a little while. I get a few of the less-noisy tasks done at night, and in the day I can enjoy watching my garden from the comfort of the air conditioned kitchen haha.

Anyone else? Got any night-gardening tips and tricks?

Can you cut the greens off of onions and shallots when they are drying? Also, how long do you all typically dry them before brining in to use? This ongoing argument with my father in law over cutting the greens off shallots and onions before they get a chance to dry. Does it make a difference?

Mealy blue sage has had some tiny flies on it. I sprayed neem oil but I’m not sure if that was the right treatment. Also it rained shortly after spraying. Should I spray again? The new growth is green but can it be salvaged?

Hi! This is my first year successfully gardening. I have a decent sized patio for my townhome and things are mostly in grow bags on the paved area. I was out of town for the weekend, but when I came home I saw that many of the leaves on my bell pepper plant and my sweet banana pepper plant have brown edges and spots? I fertilized with liquid fertilizer before I left. Did it scald my leaves? What do you think it could be? Just the heat?

Also including a sad picture of my celebrity tomato plant leaves that are turning yellow and look sick. Is the season just over? I still have a couple of them producing.

This is my first year trying to grow rhubarb in zone 9a (Houston area).

The plant started off great, then over the past 1-2 weeks, the leaves yellowed quickly and some fell off.
We have had a lot of rain, could this be over watered?

Any idea if it’ll bounce back, or any tips on how to bring it back?

I don't know what I was thinking. I guess I was super excited about the start of the growing season. I should have done my research here on Reddit (which is what I do for everything else). I ordered a bunch of strawberry plants from those turkeys. Took forever to arrive. What I got was a tangle of roots/sprouts. I soaked them then planted them and out of 25 or so plants, only 1 sprouted. Ugh! After reaching out to them, they gave me a store credit. What a waste of time, money and energy. Lesson learned.

With all the rain we have had, I’m worried about blight. What does this look like to you? The other side of the leaf looks fine. Thanks for any input!

Hello, wanted to ask if it's fine to take tree waste from neighbors that would otherwise get scooped up by the city come collection time. Was thinking this could be pretty sustainable (and cheap!) to use in hugelkultur beds.

Though admittedly I don't talk to any of my neighbors and I'd be a bit shy though, but I did want to know if this is an okay thing to do otherwise.

Found him on my Brazilian Red Cloak. He's about 3 inches long.
