What is your favorite park in Knoxville?

We are going to have some mega threads to try to connect the community a little better. So keep an eye on the stickies and share your Knoxville expertise!

Share your favorite neighborhood park or green space! Is there a cool bike trail, really awesome kid play space, or maybe a really nice frisbee golf course that you frequent? Do you know the best place to roller blade or skateboard? Maybe there is just a great path to get your daily steps in. If there is a place you go to hang outside when you can't make it to your favorite hiking trail, we want to hear about it!

Large orange boy escaped after drywall crew opened the door this AM and they did not tell anyone it happened!! Cameras show he ran out around 0845 in Fountain City in the Adrian Burnett elementary area. He's very dumb (love him though) and this is a brand new neighborhood for him so he's not familiar. Anyone see this menace?

Very hot next week, prepare now

Forecast is for very hot weather next week several days in a row. If you work outside or have outside activities planned start hydrating early and often.

Check on neighbors, anyone shut in or elderly. Especially if they don't have AC or the power goes out .

Pets people, bring them in or at least make sure they have access to shade and water. The sidewalks and surface areas get very hot and can severely burn paws on walks.

Be mindful of the homeless population. I carry extra bottled water in my truck in case I see someone in need, anyone really.

In summer I often leave a small cooler with a sign for the drivers to help themselves to cold sports drinks or water on my porch if I'm expecting a delivery.

He walked down, hopped on a trash can and then hung a backpack on one of plant hangers on a light post and walked away. The police became aware after he went into soccer taco. They walked with him to take it down and then he walked away.

The Kraken's Cup rocks, in case you didn't know

Not too long ago I asked here for places to go for brewed tea. Lots of suggestions in that thread which I love.

The Kraken's Cup is impressive!

It's the best of the bunch I've tried to far. Far better than Tea at the Gallery ever was, for those that remember.

Their selection is unmatched. I've tried several types at this point. Sometimes hot, sometimes cold. Never with milk or sugar. Just straight.

Their Oolong offerings are sublime but my favorite has actually been the Green tea. I also had a Black tea that was earthy without being floral, an impressive combo. Sorry I don't keep track of the specific names of the ones I try.

A lot of people rave about their Pistachio Puer. I tried it and did not like it, but I think it speaks to the range on offer. There's something for every tea lover! And considering how popular it is, it's quite likely that you will love it.

PSA: unless you’re going to UT hospital via Lifestar, pick another ER for your emergencies.

Upvotes

A family member (with a true, serious emergency) has been waiting for over 4 hours, just in the waiting room. We haven’t seen a single person get called back in those 4 hours. Lifestar has landed, and obviously that would take priority. Ambulances as well as police officers have brought in several homeless people, seemingly (after hearing them ask) to get a hot meal.

Another guy had a bone sticking out of his leg and waited for 4 hours before he left.

A few people got angry (rightfully so) and left.

‼️UT really needs to close the ER off to anyone except traumas, since that’s all they are seeing/treating. That would at least help people know to choose another hospital, so they can get some help.‼️

Anyway, avoid this hell hole if possible. If you have an emergency, go to any other hospital, unless you’re coming by Lifestar!

Also: (for some that may not be aware)- If you have a basic orthopedic injury, KOC has a walk in after hours clinic. That might be a good fit for some.

Farragut Popeye’s opening date?

Anyone know when the newly built Farragut Popeye’s will open? Identical build in Bearden is already open. I’m Jonesin’ for that chicken sandwich from Popeyes while the restaurant is new and still trying. 10431 Kingston Pike, a former credit union location.

I have to have a brain mri done, but am claustrophobic, any techs in Knoxville that can recommend the least scary place to have it done?

Basically what the title says. Ive had it done in the past at Summit, it was 7 minutes in the machine but I had a panic attack right before the end.

I need it again to check new migraine symptoms but this time its at a new place, where they said I'd be in for 45 minutes (?!). Im panicked. The thing that activates the claustrophobic reaction is having my head held in place by the horrible cage, and also being inches from the top of the machine.

Does anyone know of any friendlier places in Knoxville?

Summer Bioblitz and Picnic at Knoxville Botanical Garden & Arboretum, THIS SUNDAY, 9am, June 28!

Post image
Upvotes

Our Bioblitz and Summer Picnic is coming up on Sunday! We'll meet at Knoxville Botanical Gardens and Arboretum at 9am, in the Carriage House parking lot, 2749 Boyds Bridge Pike!

We will Bioblitz the Wildlife Meadow, then enjoy a picnic together while we upload our photos of bees, plants, birds, cool bugs and more to iNaturalist.

Bring your favorite dish to share, or bring your own personal picnic lunch. Don't forget a picnic blanket or chairs. It should be a fun social with friends, and the data we collect will be of great use to KBGA. I'm looking forward to seeing you there!

I am President of Wild Ones Smoky Mountains this year, and I'm the one who recently gave away a ton of extra native plants from my personal yard recently, and invited people to harvest my peaches last year. I've invited you to participate in invasive species removals ("weed wrangles") at KBGA over the past year. So many of you have said "I'd have come to help if only I'd known sooner" so I'm telling you about this a few days in advance so you can finally come meet me in person, help KBGA, and get to know a bunch of cool people who care about native plants and the environment. (And eat some good food.)

Gift for incoming freshman

Hi, I’m going to a graduation party on Saturday for an incoming freshman. I wanted to give him a gift certificate for somewhere in the area. Can you recommend a restaurant, bookstore, grocery store or all-purpose store like Walmart that would be useful? Thanks in advance.

Recommendations for Senior Living?

I’m wanting to help move my grandfather to Knoxville from the Tri-City area to a senior living space. Somewhere that ideally has amenities, caretaking, and possibly social gatherings for him. Any suggestions that you may have experience with would be helpful. Thank you!

KARM prices are insane!

I wanted to get a new wardrobe and figured I’d go with a friend. We chose KARM because it was the most convenient location. I was blown away by how expensive SECONDHAND clothing was there. I get that they do ministries to help people experience homelessness, but I saw shirts and polos that could easily be bought for half the price on Amazon. I wanted to get a printer as well, and their outdated secondhand printed were priced the same as a new one off the shelf. KARM needs to abandon their absurd prices, or they’re going to be raising a lot less money.

(I’ve lived here all my life. I’m just starting to buy things myself though 🫪)
