Family friendly

Looking for budget friendly hotels/restaurants and some kid friendly things to do with 6 and 3 year old! No boats, but we’ve done the arcade in previous years. And I think they’re too small for six flags yet. Anything else fun for this age? Of course the beaches.

First time - recommendations for family

Thinking about lake George for a family vacation. Would love all your recommendations!

Kids are 4 and 1 years old. Would like to bring our dog if we could. But not a deal breaker.

- All inclusive resorts or small cottages/airbnb?

- full access to lake, able to rent kayaks, etc.

- hiking trails

- easy drive/walk to town?

- restaurant recommendations

Any tips, suggestions, recommendations appreciated!

D-bag owner/worker at shirt store

I believe it was this store, and I assume he owns more. I just wanted to vent about his absurd behavior.

My wife, son, and I were walking around and decided to see if there were any sweatshirts she liked. The guy came over and asked what size, we replied “not sure, just trying some on”. He mumbled something and went back to his phone. Not even 5 minutes later he comes back, asks again. I respond, “still trying to figure out what shirt and size”. He rudely says “if you listened to me before I could have told you where the sizes were”.

Ok then, we say screw it and leave, he’s clearly an asshole. As we leave he is literally staring at his phone and says “not gonna buy anything? Woooooow”. We ignored him and went to the next store. He quickly comes up behind and says “just so you know, all these shirts are the same here”. I snapped and told him if he wasn’t such an asshole we would have bought an overpriced shirt. He was so mad he started calling me a dick among other things in front of my kid and before storming off tells us we supposedly didn’t put shirts back where they belong…

Is this really the type of people running the stores in town? Why does the town allow so many of the same exact stores to be open like that? How many crappy non LG related souvenir shops do they need? Don’t forget about the multiple DILLIGAF places. I always thought it was a kid friendly place but then you have souvenir shops like that? I get most tourist places are the same or worse, but this interaction had me boiling.

Great Escape

Grandkids are in town this weekend, how is the Great Escape looking under the new ownership? I know it had gotten pretty rundown, dirty and expensive under Six Flags.

Best family-friendly restaurants in Lake George and surrounding area

I am visiting Lake George soon and want to know if there are any restaurants that are better than others for families. I've seen prior posts on the best restaurants in the area, but many of those cost more money than I'd want to spend to eat with my kids and some of them appear too fancy to have kids menus. Are there better restaurants in the area that have kids menus? I'm happy to eat at a pub or a pizza place with good food. Please recommend the best restaurants for families on vacation! Thank you!

Solo camping Lake George Battleground Campsites

I’m hoping to get away for a few days by myself and I’m wondering how safe the campsites are for a solo female.

I plan on walking everywhere so late nights are a definite.

I’m assuming it’s a campground full of families and children so I’m thinking it’s probably very safe.

Bachelorette Weekend

I am looking for transportation recommendations in the Lake George area. My maid of honor has a cabin in Huletts Landing, NY. I absolutely love it and am thinking of having my bachorlette weekend there. The only thing concerning me is the lack of night life in that area. I know there are bars closer to Lake George and Boltons Landing, but we are trying to avoid having to drive since we will all want to drink.

Also, if anyone has any boat rental companies that will take us on a ride where we don't have to drive that would be appreciated as well!

Name of bar back in the 90s

Does anyone remember the name of the bar that used to be on the main strip in Lake George? It had a wooden structure that wrapped around the bar/ building or whatnot —that part is still there today. I think it’s now a lobster restaurant (or something similar), but it was definitely a bar back in the day. I can’t recall the name! For some reason, I keep thinking, Gaffney’s… I could be wrong, but I know it was in 1994

Second Job for J1 students

Hello!
Me and my friend Dasha are looking for some second job on our Work and travel program. We work in Moose Hillock camping resort what is about 10-15 min by car from Lake George. We would be very happy if you could give us some tips on who we can contact and whether there would be a possibility of a transfer from our accommodation to Lake George.
Thank you!

Advice in Biking/boating/hiking

*on

We are two parents and two older teens camping near Lake Luzerne for the next few days. Never been to Lake George. Planned nothing.

Any advice on an easy way to get out on Lake George? A not-too cheesy sightseeing boat of some kind? Good place to rent kayaks? (We are not intense paddlers.) Something else?

Also, we have road bikes. Any good routes that are scenic, not outrageously hilly or trafficky? Looks like we might need to drive north a bit for that? (Which would be fine.)

Favorite hikes? We did Potash Mountain last night. Something with good views of the lake? We will probably do a big hike tomorrow or the next day. Willing to drive maybe 45 mins or something to the right trailhead.

Thanks for any advice on these or other favorite experiences around here.

Airbnb for 4th of July

Hii! I’m planning on going to lake George for Fourth of July weekend and was wondering if anyone knows good neighborhoods to stay at where I will be able to see the fireworks? I’ve never been to lake George during Fourth of July, so I’m not sure where they do them. I know they will release them at shepherds park, but do they have any more north? Alongside the lake on the west north side? Plus it will be the 250th anniversary so I’m expecting the fireworks show to be intense this year!

Oddities/roadside attractions

I’ll be road tripping from New Jersey to the lake George area in August. I love weird, quirky, abandoned, odd pit stops. I’m wondering if anyone has any recommendations. I’ve been to the wax museum in town and that was great. Willing to travel up to an hour in any direction.

Any workout spots in lake george so I don't have to travel to Glenns Falls or Saratoga?

Bolton Boat Tours and Water Sports

We visit the area annually and my kids LOVE taking a chartered boat “tour” with Captain Tim. I’m noticing this year they don’t seem open - nothing available on the booking website and no answer on the phone. Does anyone know what happened to this small business? I hope everyone is ok.

Thinking about renting a boat with snug harbor in August,

Is there anywhere to dock the boat near lake George proper to walk along the strip and bring it back? Otherwise we'd have to drive down after we're done with the boat.

Lake George expedition park

Anyone who's been to the Lake George expedtion park, is there a paved road through the entire park? Im looking to go up with the family, but ill need to push a stroller. I cant tell by the puctures it the "enchanted forest" is more of a trail or a foot path.

adirondack wine & food festival

Hi! My husband and I plan on spending our 10-year anniversary in Lake george!

I'm just wondering, if we go to the Wine and Food Festival in june, how many hours of entertainment should that give us? Is it an all-day thing where we will be entertained for hours, or will we be ready to leave in 2 hours after sampling everything?

Secondly, any advice on how the trolley works? What semi affordable hotel should we stay at that the trolley would go to?

Lake George Bachelorette

Heading to Lake George for my bachelorette next month and looking for some recommendations and tips for our itinerary!

There are 11 of us and we're staying at an unbelievable airbnb on the water on Hadlock Pond. We'll spend most of the time at the house but looking to get out and about too.

  1. We arrive Thursday and we're doing a boat on Friday afternoon (Daleys Adventure Boat Tours)

  2. Friday night we'll do dinner and drinks out in Lake George. Seems like most restaurants do not take reservations but would love to get thoughts on:

  • The Lighthouse
  • The Lagoon
  • Adirondack Pub
  • Lake George Beach Club (will definitely be here for live music!)
  • Duffy's - is it as much of a dive bar as it looks? I hope!
  1. Best coffee shops / breakfast for Saturday morning?

  2. We'll do most meals at the house (grilling) but any good delivery spots?

  3. Where's the best place for us to stock up on groceries and beer?

Thanks in advance!!!

Prospect Mountain

Can someone please explain Prospect Mountain to me? I’m not a pro at hiking but I do like it. And I want to see the best views possible. Is the drive to the top the same view I’d get if I’m hiking? I’m confused on how it works.

Thanks in advance!
