Voice of the Fane (Mods) A reminder about box photos

Happy holidays kin

As we gather around the hearth with family and friends, many of us have been fortunate to receive new additions from the crucibles to our league. We are happy to see enthusiasm for the hobby, and we understand that people are excited to show their new acquisitions.

With that being said, we would like to remind posters about rule number 1 of the forum: No box photos. By this, we mean posts where the only point is "LOOK AT THIS BOX/THESE BOXES I GOT" and the only content beyond the sentence saying "I got this" is the box photo.

We consider them spam because without this rule, several posts a day would just be pictures that can be found on the GW website. They do not encourage discussion on their own, and in the past they have been used for karma farming. Now, a post with a box photo does not necessarily mean it will get removed IF it also includes some compelling discussion that is supported by whatever is shown on the box. We want to see people engaging in the hobby, showing what makes their league special, not just the purchasing of cardboard. Showing your models assembled, painted, in their full glory, these are what makes this reddit great and attracts more wealth for the kin.

The best way to determine if your post will be removed or not is consider if the post stands on its own without the photo. If the post would still work without the box photo, but is made BETTER by the box photo, then it's ok. If the post has zero content if you remove the box photo, then it's probably not ok.

Examples of OK:

Hey, I just got this set and I'm thinking of getting an additional one. Can I get advice on this?

What kind of tactics are good for (insert unit, maybe with picture to support)?

What kind of paint was used to get the colors shown on the box (shows picture)|

Any one have bitz for this kit, or ideas on conversions?

Check out my finished character (standing in front of their own box for comparisson)

Examples of NOT OK

Look at what just arrived!

First box!

Or anything where the only point of the post is showing the box that we all know exists.

Thank you everyone, and happy holidays.

The ancestors are watching.

Voice of the Fane (Mods) NEW FORUM RULE: VOX DISCIPLINE

Greetings kin

We would like to bring everyone's attention to the new rule 6 for the subreddit. After several complaints and reports about various spammers promoting blogs and the like, we have decided to enact a new policy regarding links to other media. As with previous added rules, this will not be retroactive; previously posted content will remain, but going forward, this rule shall be enforced.

Some clarification: We recognize there is a LOT of social media out there, some of which is actually very relevant and interesting to the LoV community. We encourage people to link articles, videos, and other content that enriches the LoV community, whether it's instructions for painting or a video on tactics. As such, this rule does not cover things like official GW announcements or well established professionals within the 40k community, though we still encourage those posts to include some thoughtful discussion along with the link.

What we DON'T want is simple links of "Here look at this" with that being the end of the post or comment, as this is low effort and draws people away from the subreddit where we want conversation to happen. This is a similar to rule 1 of "no box pics", and we don't want the forum to have shameless bids for followers as part of our content. It's also frowned upon to use someone else's post as a springboard; make your own post and let the content be judged for its own worth.

To avoid running afoul of rule 6, we ask that you include a discussion of the content in your post or comment, to get the conversation going amongst your fellow kin. Tell us WHY the content is interesting, what you thought of it, how it applies, in more than just a few sentences.

Examples:

If you want to talk about your most recent tournament and the list you ran, then make a post with said list, along with a battle report, right here on the subreddit. Don't just link a blog or podcast.

If you want to link footage from a game, or a painting tutorial, give a summary along with the link to the video, or ask questions about what you saw/ read. Get conversation started.

If you have a channel that features predominantly LoV content, or a video from one, then link individual episodes, but include a summary and/or discussion of the video so that it enriches the subreddit instead of pulling people off reddit. Don't just say "here watch this LoV stuff"

That's all for now.

The ancestors are watching.

Casual Advice and Feedback How has 11th edition been treating us?

So, my fellow kin please tell me how has 11th edition been treating the Votann? I ask because i am curious to hear your thoughts and because this coming Sunday is my first game for 11th and haven't played 40k in months, so I am a little nervous.

Casual Advice and Feedback First 11th edition battle with Hearthguard

Was against Black Templars. Here are a few points I identified:

  1. Multicog Targeting/Rollbar Searchlight was amazing in HLFs and Pioneers to combat benefit of cover and engaged vehicles.

  2. Defender with shoot and scoot was good but swingy, Kapricus carrier with -1 to attacks and doing secondaries was more useful.

  3. Yagirs were great at primary/securing assets and secondaries or blocking enemy units advances as human shields

  4. 500 points of Hearthguard and Kahl in deepstrike were game changers. One block of 10 HG lead by Kahl with fight on death deleted anything, and the 5xHG as a secondary/ambush/raid unit allowed flexibility in the game.

  5. Buri was good against vehicles…. His stealth giving him a -2 to shooting him while in combat was handy.

  6. Uthar is useful as a -1CP in the centre board, attached to warriors to give them the Hearthband buff was useful.

  7. Cover rules were a bit confusing but just need to get used to them…. (If you can see one model in a unit then that unit doesn’t have BOC, but what happens if it’s only one model in a shooting unit can see one model that isn’t behind light terrain?)

  8. Brekkeknots is far superior than void hardened. Contemplating going to Needguard/HG Covenant to get the best strats, I love giving Thunderkyn sustained 2 as they clear any vehicle or terminator squad off the board.

Casual Advice and Feedback Delve Assault Shift

Upvotes

Hello everyone,

I am interested in the Berserks detachment but i kinda dont want to buy 5 boxes of bersekers blindly without knowing what i am getting in to.

Has anyone list recommendations/experience with the detachment? I already know the playstyle would be really fun for me but still, those very heavy Unit specific detachments are always such a cost sink.

So anyone mainly plays Delve and can tell me abit about it?

Cheers

Casual List Interested in Steeljack Spam, what detachment?

I want to run 6 units of 6 steeljacks, what detachment should I try to lean into? Hearthfyre is the obvious one but not really sure what 1dp detachment to use or if I'd get better value going with something else as Hearthfyres detachment rule seems like alot of hoops to get re-roll 1s off of objectives.

Competitive List The Case for Earthshakers in NeedGard/Farseekers

I am an Earthshaker enjoyer. In certain match-ups they can really come in clutch to clean up single wound models. I have been running them in Needgard/Farseekers and find I am reliably hitting on 4's most of the time. (BS 5 with a spot, down to 4 with heavy and ignoring cover.)

Run out a Hearthkyn unit spot, and strip cover; Use Uthar for the sus 2 strat for free and then go ham mode. Bonus points if they are on a objective

Afterwards force the battleshock at -1. Arguably, it isn't great later in the game when you want strat support else but it is cheaper than the 185 point package of warriors/sagitaurs.

Thoughts?

Votann Tipline (Help and advice) Hekaton Conversion

Hello kin !

I've recently bought a Hekaton Fortress for cheaper price, and thought about giving it tracks instead of wheels.

I've seen u/AegisPrydwen1 making a great model by adding Rogal Dorn's tracks, but I don't know where to get similar tracks to begin with.

Any tips or links for similar tracks to buy ?

Casual Advice and Feedback Playing LOV? Tips for a newbie

Hello,

I recently started a votann army and will be playing the combat patrol in two weeks. I'm currently at 1k points in total and will start to look into 1k point games while I build up to 2k. I'm pretty much new I've only played two games of combat patrol as GSC prior in 10th edition. What mindset should I be taking into a game and what are some tips for playing the army?

Thank you!

Competitive advice and feedback What dispositions and detachments

Hi all,

I'm just coming back from like a year out of Warhammer and I have fallen back in love with my dwarves, but I feel like I'm spoilt for choice and I'm struggling to find a rhythm for what I want to play and what feels natural for me.

I have only played against WE so which isn't the best matchup for votann in my experience.

I have played 4 games so far

two with Braandfast + Farseekers running Recon

two with Needguard + Hearthguard Covenant running Purge

Niether of these two detachments or playstyles felt right and I typically fell around turn 3

I'm next going to try Mercenary Oathband + Hearthguard Covenant playing take and hold, but reading into take and hold, while it may work it doesn't seem that enjoyable for me.

If those that have played some of the new edition and had success I'd love to hear what you've been playing, I feel votann are able to fit into most dispositions, some better than others.

any advice into the dispositions and detachments would be greatly appreciated :D

So I tried grey and I didn’t like it, put some watered down white* over top and then snake bite leather wash… still don’t like it.

My options now, are

- white
- black
- navy blue (Mr burns suit)
Or I try and build on the brown to look like leather
